I can corroborate what others have been saying. No one answers the phone. I have tried calling at different times of the day & exhausting all menu choices (in every different sequence that would be possible within the matrix of options they provide) for 2 years since 2018 to reach someone. No one has ever answered. I can't find the words to properly convey how strange this is, how helpless I feel when I have an account issue, or how obtuse the government is for still using Direct Express.
This had been a wonderful card, easy to use, accurate...my only problem was I kept getting hacked! And when I'd get a replacement card, they soon hacked that one too! I got some sales reversed, but mostly the amounts were taken out of my account. I don't make enough to keep on paying for someone else's charges, and Direct Express couldn't stop the crooks, so I changed.
This app is for depositing social security benefits only. Only the government can deposit into this account. I suppose that's to guarantee the safest and most secure debit card & app you could want. It works very well and Ive never had any problems with my account for the past 6 years. However, getting them on the phone pretty much does not happen. Thanks Direct Express for all your good points.
Wonderful app, easy to navigate, easy to use. Since the latest update every time I go to sign in I am redirected to the play store via a pop up message saying that I need to install the new version, I have been redirected to the play store over twenty times now, but I can't figure out why!(?) The first time was earlier this month and was able to install a update, but every time since the play store shows the regular screen you would see if you wanted to uninstall a app or the option to open!
Gives me exactly what I need I can look at my balance, then make a purchase, than check balance again, and it immediately gives me my new balance. which is nice so I know exactly how much I have at all times. It's secure after no usage few min it automatically logs you out. I can see all my transactions at any time. I don't know what I'd do with out the app. I hate using the phone to check balance. It takes longer then what it needs to. The app is quick, simple and way easier!
To those of you who are getting the message of a new version of the app coming soon when you go to login just press cancel instead of ok and you won't be redirected to the Play Store. Best banking app I've ever experienced, especially when it comes to speed and easiness. Nothing bad to say about it. Keep up the good work Direct Express
It would be nice if I could control what was paid, I had many many scams that were paid without the verification process I have to go thru just to get in my own apps! This needs to be changed. isn't it MY MONEY afterall, to pay anyone that claims to $$, is obsurd. Isn't there a way to LOCK the card on my end? That would be fantastic! However, they have become more adaptive and quick to add refunds. Haven't called them yet..
It simple and does what it says...unfortunately it doesn't say too much. The only thing it does is make it possible to view your balance and transactions on your device instead of calling or using atm. When I did have a problem with an unauthorized transaction there was no way to contact anyone via email or even to download the necessary forms. So I ended still having to call 4 times and waited two weeks for the mail form and had to send it back to dispute a matter that " paypal Amazon or ebay" would have cleared in 3 days.
Direct express is the way to go if you don't want to deal with a bank. I get direct deposit from social security. With the pin code you have your balance, pending deposit, and transactions available immediately. And if there's a problem, customer service is available. I have never had an issue with Direct Express.... I pay my bills with the master card debit card that is issued. No problem!
your app needs to be updated because it is showing transactions that have been completed as still pending. such as ATM withdrawals. and bill's that I paid and have received confirmation numbers for. Also there is a bug that when I try to load previous transaction history kicks me out. I then have to reenter the app to get the full history.
It's alright..i guess I'm looking for more access to features like other Debit cards...and other options... like early release or transfer money...us bank might not be a good choice for most people since I don't bank with them...so more options... otherwise a great card...I like the way I'm able to keep a digital receipt for all my purchases and details of the receipt...easy set up and use over the internet and phone...no ads no interuptions easy to navigate around the app
So far so good 👍 I haven't had any problems with this app. The only thing is that it does have the some the most important things that belongs in a app like this. For example, if you want to see the transaction, history, and the Merchant who you did the transaction with you would have to either call "Direct Express"or go to Google and search for the information you need and that's kind of a waste of time. When all Direct Express need to do is Update the app, where you can see every transaction.
I like the app a lot better now. Just bought a new phone so I could update the app. It is nice to be able to check my balance with just a few keystrokes. I do have one problem with DE and that is not seeing all the info of transactions. I wish I could access a statement. And sometimes I have a hard time getting hold of customer service due to "heavy call volume" even very late at night !?!?
Not what I thought it'd be. I've called numerous times to get assistance with this app. No one helps me. All I want to do is set up my notifications but it keeps saying invalid notification phone... Like are you kidding me. The app verified it when they sent a code for the app. This needs fixed immediately!!!!! I've contacted the number on the back of the card numerous times!! I also asked my phone company and they said it's your app that's the problem!!!
First off, for people saying you can't take a screen shot, you're right that you can't with the app but if you access your DE acct from the website through your browser, you're able to take a SS. I've done this many times. They also show more info for transactions on the website. It would be nice if these things were able to be accesses/used on the app too. Also the app isn't just for SSI, it's also for assist so you don't have to use something else for that. App works ok, could be better.
The DirectExpress app is very simple to operate and its very thorough too. (Lots of good things I said I had to delete so I could give you all an update.) UPDATE: After writing a nice review, I was NEVER able to get into my account. Ever. Always something blocking me access. Now its many years later and I have installed it again but it wont allow me to register my card. It just keeps telling me to try again later. I Uninstalled and will install again shortly. This is absolutely unacceptable.
Don't ever change phones if you want to be able to use the app. I switched phones 2 months ago and haven't been able to get into the app since. I'm already registered and it won't recognize any of my log in info and and when I try to re-register it says, surprise surprise that I am already registered and to log in! After uninstalling and reinstalling the app several times I give up!
The app does what I need it to do. Displays my balance, pending deposits, and past transactions. It shows you where fee free ATMs are, where you can get cash back and the regular ATMs. There are also educational slides that let you earn points as you learn! I'm not sure what you can use the points for, though.
New, updated version is basically a new app that you can't even fully register on and now can't use this one which seemed to work perfectly fine for everyone. Instead of fighting with customer support for no help whatsoever, I'm going to just free up space on my phone by deleting both apps and go back to the way I have always checked my card balance; by calling the number on the back of the card.... problem freaking solved and no darn hassles of app not working or whatever 🙄
Quick, got what I needed and logged out quite rapidly. Easy to navigate around. You could manage your budget, pay the bill's, find your balance, dates of transactions posted, almost anything. Set up automatic draft with your creditors and you don't have to do much else! I much prefer using my Direct Express card to writing checks! I can remember when we used to have to balance the checkbook with the bank statement every month. Those days are over and you always know your current balance!
There whole system, from this so called updated version to there customer service is ridiculous. You can't get anyone on the phone & when you do, there from a third world working remotely. The app, you have no options to do anything, except check your balance & transactions.There's no email to contact support. When my acct/card was compromised, they supposedly sent me out a new card which was $4.97 which I never received. After 3 1/2 wks. I called them back & had it expedited, that was $18.96
Wonderful app to work with, I really can't imagine any way to improve this app, unless of course the developer's of the app would love to send me a stack of Hundred Dollar Bills, about 3 inches high. Oh and some hair about two inches long, because I'm bald in two spots. Other than that the app is GREAT.
i hate it when apps try to sneak in unnecessary permissions. it's slimy and it's unacceptable. i can't even do that much with the app. then i try to send an email by clicking on the email option on this page, but instead of a response i get this, "The email address you entered couldn't be found." in my inbox. slimy and unacceptable.
it's great to check your balance, deposits and transactions but that's about it. anything else you have to go online or heaven forbid have to try and call because you can NEVER get through to anyone on the phone. you always have to call back later!!! personally I don't like direct express much but i don't have a choice
The app is ok but I wish there was a way to send and receive messages. This bank is impossible to contact. I would like to know who to contact to complain about Direct Express. The app is ok as I said but its just for checking my balance and to see any charges made. After reading the comments I see at least 90 percent of us have trouble reaching anyone. Others also have had charges wrongfully made and have had to eat the charges because no one is ever there. I have lost close to $3000!
Customer Service Reps are incompetent! Mailed my replacement card incorrectly, twice! It is now, the middle of the month and I am waiting-hoping, that my replacement will show up in my mail sometime soon! My rent is late, I have no funds and no way to access them. Perhaps, the high volume of calls are from people like me who have to keep calling because of incompetent service reps! And, the new app is not as good as the old one! The old app worked just fine!
