It's a nice alternative when you can't figure out where you (or someone else in the family) left the DirecTV remote. From time to time it will fail to find the receiver/box on the network. The DTV has a static IP address (I set it myself in the router) so all I need to do to fix it is enter the Genie's IP addy and it's fine. As the IP never changes it is mildly annoying to have to repeat a procedure that basically tells the router the exact same information over & over again.
Hands down, the worst app I've ever used. First, it takes 10 secs to 90 secs for the box to respond, this kind of delay makes it bad enough. If u press a button once, it'll often respond like you've pressed it 2x-4x plus. It constantly discons from the Wi-Fi while using it so you have to restart it. If ur screen times out or u open another app, it stops working. The app constantly runs & opens even away from home. I'll force stop it then a few hours later, it opens back up draining my battery.
Worst app ever. Im forced to use it till my new remote gets delivered. It keeps disconnecting and i keep having to try to reconnect. Then it can NEVER find the receiver, then when i enter it manually it won't accept it!! I have to keep refreshing and opening and closing and installing and uninstalling all in hopes it'll finally recognize my receiver. Ridiculous!! VERY UNSATISFIED!!!
This is a good app for Android phones I searched for an direct TV remote app because my grandmother who I spend a lot of time with remote is broken most of the buttons work on her remote but there are a few that don't like the pause and play button or the fast forward. So I was looking for a temperary replacement so that I can pause and play shows. I searched on goggle and found this. This remote can do everything a normal one can expect change the volume.
the most basic functions you can imagine, and ads to boot.i've had this app preloaded on my last 3 or 4 phones. channel guide, menu, power, volume&channel up/down.you can program more than one room(genie) tho which is a plus. handy enough when you lost the satellite remote, but it's been crashing repeatedly.43 in the last 3 days.this has been an ongoing issue for months.between DirecTV and at&t you would think they could get a working remote app together.btw. the dev website server is not found 😂
Never had a problem with this app. We lost the remote often and this app always saved the day. Worked consistently even when we lost the remote for several weeks. Convenient that i was able to control all our receivers. Easy to switch between them.
No volume control now?! I have called multiple times to ask why it was removed, for months now. I keep being told they will update it soon. This was the most useful feature for me as a mom... and not always having access to remote when I need to turn volume down due to my son falling asleep on me. Huge disappointment. Bring it back!
If I could give negative stars I would. I would give negative stars for all of the entire DirecTV anything. This app is absolute garbage. Constant crashing, abysmal load times. The receivers routinely don't work. The TV service is ridiculously expensive for next to nothing. I cannot stress enough how awful the entire ATT/DirecTV experience is
This app came preloaded on my newest cell phone. I'm sure this is a great app for those with Direct TV devices, but I don't have any, so I attempted to uninstall it to free up valuable memory space. It warned me that if I continued with the uninstallation, other apps may not work properly. That ain't right.
So now it's even worse than the last update. The app is closed, I haven't opened it in a while since I couldn't select which room I wanted to control or even control the room it selected for me. Now it just pops up randomly actually really often and is on top of an app I have open so that I can't use that app. When I get a phone call, the app pops up and I have to move it or close it to take the call, which causes me to miss important calls. This app is now total junk.
This app used to be okay. Now it keeps saying no wifi is found. I'll bring the app up while it runs in the background, and on many consecutive times, no wifi found error appears. I have to close and reopen the app. Everything about Directv sucks. My landlord pays for this. I'd never give them a dime. 8/30/19 update - This app still sucks. Still having the no wifi connected error all the time. 4/22/19 update - App still sucks!!!
Like everything else directv has done lately, the app dont work. lol. "No programming information available " and "loading" is about all get out of it. I am amazed at how fast Directv has bottomed out. It used to be expensive, but good...now its expensive and well, not so good.
Yes its good to have when you cant find your remote. but come on, get it to work properly. the buttons are small and the reaponse to the equipment is so slow and inacqurate. Dish's remote app is far superior to this, go learn from them.
Great App! Make sure to leave notifications turned on for a quick access to pause/play/ff/rewind. But, in settings => notifications be sure to set all to silent. It took me a couple days, going crazy with notifications to find this as the culprit (My wife thought I was having a secret conversation). The default should have been silent. This is why 4 stars and not 5.
I suddenly got a notification that this app was running. I don't remember ever installing it let alone ever using it. I opened it and agreed to a privacy thing but deleted it immediately after when it asked to connect to my TV which it apparently hadn't done before "running" suddenly. Very concerning behavior from this app.
It's convenient to be able to control the tv (except volume) from my phone when I can't find the remote. But about a third of the time, the app can't find my device and I have to "re-scan" for it. This is the only one in the house, so it's not like there are others to confuse the app with.
I used this app all the time.Since i have a 7 mth old that likes to play with the remote, i could always use my phone to control the tv. Now all of the sudden it doesnt recognize my receiver. Spent over an hour on the phone with Direct tv guy and we tryed everything.....still cant get it to work!
Wasted space, dont have direct tv. Never have. Never will. I cannot delete this app from my phone. Which is ridiculous because it is completely and utterly useless and a waste of space. I dont know how well it works, I can't use it. Why force your app onto peoples phones? If you want to force something atleast make it useful. If you think forcing a remote app onto phones is going to convince people to get direct tv, you're deluded. It's not the only app, but that doesnt make it any better.
Pretty good but can't turn tv off mini's in another room because the power button has no functionality. Like when I get a message that too many TV's are on at the same time. I have to go upstairs to turn off the box. This usually wakes my wife up and then she's mad at me. Any suggestions?
This is ridiculous. I finally ditch DirecTV, especially the apps as they were essentially useless to me because they never worked correctly but NOW they fire up and won't GO AWAY. Seriously? Now the apps finally work and won't leave my notification screen but I had to drop services to get it? Worthless.
It wants to connect thru WiFi! Why should that have anything to do with my Phone which has unlimited Data? It finds my Receiver but wont connect due to no WiFi. It should pick up the Receiver simply because its there, just like a regular remote control! I'll have to disable it since I obviously cant use it. Yes, my Receiver has its own WiFi but doesn't connect to phones. More Bad Technology Development by AT&T
I have this app on two devices. It fails to open 2.2 functionality 99% of the time. I wish I could give it 0 stars. What's the point of having an app that stops loading before it can be used? The 1% of the time it fully loads it works like a dream.
This app was installed by the app store, not me. I didn't know it was there until I got a notification that it was running, using my data, and filling up my phone's space. Not happy they're randomly putting apps on my phone without permission
When I turn the screen off on my phone then turn it back on sometimes it'll say no Wi-Fi and I would like to keep my screen off to save battery other than that this is awesome. I have no remote control because it broke and this is going to have to work until I can get a new one
Works great on my phone it just doesn't connect to the reciver automatically each time I open it. Also it would be cool if i could access the channel guide on my phone directly from the app and choose a channel directly off the app, thanks!
Horrible. Constant sounds and noises and if you try to turn them off, the app won't run. Why in the world would you possibly need to run a sound notification
Does not work at all. Followed instructions, including configuring the server to allow external devices and no luck. Connects to the server but doesn't control anything.
While I know how to change notification settings on my phone, this software (which can not be uninstalled from my LG G6 even though I am not a DIRECTV subscriber) should get some sort of update which stops it from constantly attempting to pop up a "searching for receiver" alert.
This is way too inconsistent. Needs a better response time. Can't tell you how many times I type in a 3 digit number and it splits it and brings me to a different channel. It's trash, really.
This app is far from a fully functional DirecTV (DTV) remote. There's no way that I can find to jump up or down through the list of recorded programs or the guide - it's one item at a time, including scrolling left and right. Yet it will start the unadvertised "Double Play". So it appears to be a work in progress, one rushed into production. The remote in the main DirecTV app is much better but also needs work. The attitude about these apps seems to be, "Ya got two remotes. We're done."
