It stops meta data collection upto a gd extent like search queries esp. Google. BT many a times proxy builders have to provide these when law enforcement is involved. Privacy not Anonymity. But anyways nice app. Thanxx Disconnect guyzzz..
For being an app consisting of nothing but a search field, this app performs surprisingly bad. There is no clear/reset button to clear the search field. Search results open in your browser not in the app. You can't choose which search provider you use bt default from inside the app. There is no feedback when a search query returns no results; just an empty page. Thr welcome wizard includes a non-clickable Done button. Interface uses non-standard fonts that don't go with the rest of Android's look and feel.
This app has results that likely can be duplicated using a VPN with a regular browser, and DuckDuckGo. Disconnect.me used to have wonderful add-ons which blocked buttons for Facebook, Twitter and Google. The latest challenge is the Social Media Bar used in WordPress blogs. So far I have been unable to block it, as a reader of a blog. The author of the blog apparently can block it. This new Social Media blocking toggle is what I would like to see for android phones and tablets. Thanks much for listening.
Love this BUT cant switch search engines. N as much as I love this app, its not REALLY private, n nothing u type in is private bc EVERYTHING U TYPE IN IS BEING READ IN ONE WAY OR ANOTHER...so while some searches r 100% private, they actually r NOT private bc agn, EVERYTHING U TYPE ON YOUR KEYBOARD IS BEING READ...n there is no private keyboard. That is, If they r WATCHING u type it in. Just something to think about.
Does exactly what it states. I use it when I don't want Google knowing every topic I'm searching. My only complaint is I want to donate a few dollars but would rather do it through google play. PayPal is a few more steps and I would have to retrieve my SECURED password making it a hassle. I'll wait for the developers reply still will donate. Without them we would just have stale apps instead of great one's.
The search results are really poor (in some cases, non-existent) and the page on which they are listed doesn't show properly on my LG Optimus 3 phone. Also, when I try to type something into the Disconnect widget, a small pop up window appears at the center of my screen with the true search engine (the widget itself is just a decoy?) and my keypad covers it completely, so I can not see whatever I'm writing. Uninstalling now.
Alot of time. My middle aged mind ain't that sharp anymore. So U download what has been presented to me silver platter, 3 WEEKS LATER, ITS UNSAFE OR HAS HACKED NY SECURITY OR NOT compAtible. Now U can save a few secs
I Hope it does what it promises (it appears to do), but the problem is it should have an option to open in private window of the browser, as I can't sit deleting histories every time!. Pls also create a Linux (.deb) version asap.
BUT it doesn't allow me to switch search engines. Its STUCK on Google, which I really hate! I don't dislike Google, but I don't like the search results it gives me. I starting using DuckDuckGo & Ixquick almost 2 years ago, and that's what I'm used to I guess!! These companies, dedicated to protecting us, are soooo awesome!! Last I read too, Disconnect is open source, although I heard they were bought by a company that is not, and is in with advertisement companies. Don't quote me though - research it.
Is a pain to enter searches for things that don't exist within this apps dictionary.
I wish this worked better with private browser tabs. I realize it makes the search more anonymous but then it shows up in the browser history.
Google spies on its users more than the nsa and is even helping bust criminals by exploiting private user information. Using evil in attempts to do good is not good. I suggest users stop using all Google services and start using anonymous proxy like tor. We need more privacy
Probably the most useful app i have ever downloaded . Takes the edge off and gave me a clean browsing free of ads . A must download .
...which is okay, since I like DuckDuckGo, but I agree with another reviewer - this app is really unpolished. It just takes your search and then opens a browser window - speaking of which, is everything in the browser now protected? I'm guessing not, which is kind of a usability issue. I'm not going to go back to the app every time I need to make a new search. One last thing, you can't resize the search widget. I want mine to be bigger, because it looks goofy as is. Great idea, but so far, poor execution...
Really great app. And a really great team behind it - contacted them to point out a bug & they had it fixed within days.
It just opens as a tab in the default browser & when I search for my IP it is still the same. When using Disconnect search history is also re-enabled.
Searches only are secure so use with their VPN for privacy. Once redirected you are not protected.
Skimmed the privacy policy, and unlike some apps (Globus, for example) this doesn't log your IP info. Plus, no special permissions, which would render this useless.
Starting a week ago get Google not available in disconnect search. Defaults to Bing with all paid site results. change to yahoo, it goes back to Bing. Worthless now.
Used to be good..But the vpn version no longer works right. When "protected" - it often prevents you from accessing web pages. I had to switch to another app.
Abandonedware. Hasn't been updated since 2014 and that update only added ads. Aside from that, it still works great. I never updated to the version that only added ads.
search engines got the power to think they know what you want - they don't - they just pigeon-hole the consumer.
Does what it says. E.g.,enter through it to CM Browser or to Google Beta and You will have added another privacy protection layer in your searches. With the Web Guard combined or not, work wonders. IP gets protected. Get it.
Glad to see that Big G still allows this in the play store. Great privacy app. The widget could use some work though..
Didn't work for me, pretty sure its a great app but my school uses Iboss security. Says SSL connection error. Will go to 5 stars once fixed.
Definitely 5 stars. Works very good, no bugs or crashes, and simple to use. I like it so much I tried their Secure Wireless VPN app, and liked it enough to subscribe for a whole year. Both apps help me maintain my privacy and I definitely would recommend to family and friends.
This app seems great, and dose what is said on the tin. But I believe there's room for improvement, if there's a way to have it integrated with your browser would be much better since it would save clutter etc... Great thought has gone into this so download and enjoy no targeted adverts :)
