Discourse

Discourse is the 100% open source discussion platform built for the next decade of the Internet. It works as:

- a mailing list
- a discussion forum
- a long-form chat room

The application provides:

- Real time push notifications for officially hosted Discourse forums
- At a glance tell how many unread/new topics your forums have by looking at the app icon
- A central spot to view all notifications, unread counts and new counts
- Uses Google Chrome as the website browser, no need to log in again

@alex Leonard: it does show you which forums have new posts, thus saving you the effort and device resources you would spend on opening those that have none. However: the setting to open custom web window is gone. Why? In fact the current version seems to have no settings at all. Is the author a little too zealous to simplify the experience? Update: fixed in last version, well done.

App doesn't offer any real functions? no true notification system, just a list of updates in your forums (which isn't even up to date in my case) and no phone pings or notification badges. and the forums aren't displayed in-app, just opened in a sub-browser

Please note that this "app" is just a slow web browser with no native app functionality. I hope the devolopers make that clear to avoid getting this app low ratings and prevent it from advancing because of the early errors.

Littearly has no purpose, the app is just a tool for launching links for notifications and the forum, it is not a native Discourse client as I expected while installing the app. Your better off installing the webapp version of the forums you are on.

I feel the app would work better if the forums were in the app itself instead of just opening a browser tab. This would only be good for showing notifications and opening browser tabs.

I guess this is good for ... actually I'm not sure. My notifications don't show up and it's not like it logs you in, just punts me over to my browser and I have to login there. It's as useful as a bookmark shortcut.

Notifications for the app are turned on but it won't notify on the home screen on the icon? This thing is a ~notifier~, right? What's the advantage to just linking via Chrome to the homescreem if you have to open the app to get a notification?

The app loading is not comaptible with my internet, its look like that you have to use wifi. Its weird you know, id u can open another website or chatting with good signal, but suddenly get lose signal when open this app

This is the most useless app ever. It seems like it's a mobile experience for your discourse forums, but its just a spicy list of bookmarks that redirect you into your web browser.

Why does this exist? It just gives you a shortcut to your forum/s, which then open in a browser anyway. Maybe it does notifications, but that's not enough features to require an app for almost all potential users of a discourse forum, I wouldn't expect.

Sort of pointless as it just uses your browser (and seemed to use Chrome even though Firefox is my default browser). May as well just use it as a progressive web app.

I can't get my site to load. It automatically forgot my sites during a past update and now will not load them when I try searching. This has been going on for months. Wish I could use it again but it's just not working

The Discourse instance search functionality doesn't unfortunately work. I really wish it did work, and provided a native experience however.

a useful application. the multi-account feature and multi-forum notifications feature are very useful and make up for the loss of tabs when compared to a mobile browser.

When I clicked on the forum from the list it just opened in a web browser, not an actual app user interface.

Fre. W. May 7, 2019

Just an embedded web browser. Dont install. Zero added value. Just create a homescreen link with chrome, more effective and uses no space on your device.

Nik. May 22, 2019

What the hell is the point of this app!!?? completely useless! Just a wrapper which launches your forum in a browser! AND EVEN THAT IS NOT WORKING PROPERLY!

Amy. R. Jul 16, 2020

I downloaded discourse, because of episode forums when I get onto the app I try searching it but nothing shows up for episode forums... I wish I could give 5stars but can't for that reason...

A. G. u. Mar 14, 2019

it's just very slow it needs a lot of updates. Like my notifications come in too late and they're just not up today.

Dav. J. May 30, 2020

This isn't an app it just opens the website. No functionality or mobile friendly features

Joh. K. Sep 21, 2018

Literally a browser wrapper which requires Chrome to be installed. Even push notifications don't require this app.

Dav. M. May 30, 2019

this app may work well. however, it requires chrome to be installed and i wont do that just to use the app.

Dav. B. Mar 16, 2019

Uninstalling because it refuses to work with Firefox. Insists that Chrome be installed. Too bad!

Ish. J. Sep 14, 2018

please rename it to Chrome with Notifications enabled for discourse websites because that's what this is.

Crashes on Android 10 ever 5 seconds. On several different Android 10 roms

Gre. Z. Nov 27, 2020

Could not use the web site, as a casual reader. Nothing like Facebook at all. Seems to be a deceptive tool to generate money from potential Facebook creators. Used YouTube etc to try to learn how to read forums on this website. Not possible, it seems.

bob. s. Feb 26, 2021

This is the worst app ever All it does is open up the website that is linked to it nothing else

Hag. Feb 8, 2021

Honestly very lame, you're better off making the forum a standalons web app with Chrome
