Distiller - Your Liquor Expert

Great app, but the search function is so frustrating it has made me consider finding a different app to use. It often shows that it has found XX results at the top, though it shows "no results" or continues showing the random list of bottles it started with where the results would actually be shown below. Sometimes it will correct itself by clicking search again, but often it will repeat this issue over and over before randomly working eventually.

I count on Distiller for advice on bourbon, and to learn more about the various offerings from each brand. It's never let me down. Easy to use and navigate.

Design could be nicer but at least is clean and uncluttered. The search function is particularly finicky, sometimes insisting a spirit isn't there, but when you try to add it manually, taunting you with "your entry looks like [insert correct beverage there]." Trying to take/edit/post photos within your reviews a nightmare; Untappd does it so much better. Other than that, a wonderful lil app, and hopefully ironing those kinks out will happen as it develops. UPDATE March 2022 - getting better!

Great app idea. Nearly everything is listed with loads of informative reviews, with an easy to navigate interface. However, the problems are too prominent to ignore. The app is very laggy, sometimes freezing or crashing upon trying to click on a type of spirit. The search option is also very slow and glitchy, half the time I have to close and re-open the app if I want to search something, since half the time it doesn't work. Great app but definitely needs much more work.

The older version was a great app. It had a bar code reader built in for searching specific ratings of a spirit I might be interested in. But then I was forced to upgrade to the new version. Now you have to type everything in to search. I downgraded it, but it's still a good app just not as convenient. I was disappointed. Also the new version makes it harder to figure out how to get to your list. It got buried.

I have been using this app for more than a year. At the start, there would be various random crashes. However, I would just open it again. I would use this app in the liquor store and whenever sampling whisky with friends. Many great conversations have happened around this app.Now I wanted to work with the lists section and this requires creating an account. Update: after receiving the confirmation email many hours later, now I get to enjoy the full features of this app. Upgraded from 4 to 5.

My only complaints are a lot of distiller reviews are out of date and based on very old initial releases which do change for the better or worse over time. My other complaint is the notes section could be a little easier to use with a larger easier to use window and formatting options.. Other than that there's nothing else like it and it's very helpful!

Have been using this for 2 years(?). Good app and info sourced from expert tasters and the crowd. Need more expert tasters doing more tastings of new liquors--falling behind. Hard to organize, clean up, search within, and navigate one's different personal lists--lots of scrolling, which gets frustrating. More personalization would help...but I'm guessing that's saved for the paying crowd.

Decent app, however, seems like the Android version lags in features and capabilities to the iOS (Apple) version. This development approach was fine in 2012, but come on, in 2019, millions of Android users should not be left in the cold. Get creative, Android actually allows creativity, unlike iOS. Some of the UI flows in the making and maintain of "Lists" is difficult. Requires alot of time to go back and forth to correct errors because of bad UI. Please put some focus on this platform.

Really good resource that's kept from being 5 stars by some wonky performance issues. It's not very easy to find reviewers that you want to follow, the system is often slow to load, and quite often there are mistakes and missteps in the lesser known brands. It is however unique and a great start on an important tool.

Good idea but clunky interface. Everything relies on searching but the search is less than optimal. Search for Arran 18 results in 17 results above it. Does it think 18 refers to where I want it to appear in the results? Should Arran Smuggler Series The Illicit Stills Vol. 1 really appear above what I am looking for? And when you don't find what you're looking for, which is disappointingly frequent, having to create the record is also a tedious process.

Great list making abilities of liquor you have tried and allows you to rate it. Also has wish lists of liquor you would like to try or buy, and current ratings of the liquor. I like that it gives both user ratings and most of the time experienced ratings. Good app to have when you go to a liquor store and have two aisles full of a certain liquor and try to get some ratings on the unknown bottles or brands you may not know. Could also be useful in a bar setting when ordering from a large list.

Lots of tools and a huge library. Easy to navigate! Only 1 small gripe would be that it sometimes shows reviews listed but they don't show up on the customer section. Other than that it's consistently been functional and a solid reference for whiskies new and old!

***Update2...uninstalled the reinstalled and currently will not always boot up or complete a search. ***Update...Distiller finally responded. The upgrade did not fix the problem. Rating 4 for response but a product rating of zero for a search product that cannot complete a search...averages out to a 2 rating. Email out to Distiller with details. Hopefully they respond and can fix. *** Stopped working well in home network environment, all other apps no problem.

Updated 5/7/19: i was finally able to get it to let me log in and it hasn't frozen this time. i uninstalled and reinstalled it. i never did hear anything back re: the bug report. we'll see if it persists. 5/3/19: so far i have to give this just 2 stars. i can't say "i hated it" yet, but we'll see. the app refuses to allow me to log in and also refuses to close. my solution? reboot my phone. i reached out to the team, without reply. i will gladly update this review if this changes in the future. and if it doesn't change, i will update the review by lowering it to one star and deleting the app. i'm hopeful that they will actually take action to improve the situation. pixel 2 phone.

Slick app, but really wanted to be able to scan barcode and add whiskey to my collection list. If able to do so, will change rating upwards. Edit: Found it. Was something more blatant, but now that I've seen it, makes sense. Thanks for the quick response! Up to 5 stars and will subscribe to Pro due to bottle numbers.

The app contains comprehensive listings of a large variety of liquors, with the ability to add still more, in addition to regular news articles informing users of interesting new releases. One unfortunate issue marring an otherwise excellent app is the crashing bug that haunts the review request feature--when a user attempts to enter the year or the abv of the bottle he is requesting, the app crashes to desktop, losing any progress made in the process.

I work in IT, and this is one of the least intuitive applications I have ever used. Not to mention the fact that every time I attempt to utilize the detach function, it randomly disappears. I was hoping for something to store my taste testings and make recommendations, but I couldn't stand using the application after an hour.

Nicely organized and list creation is a great feature. I don't like how long it takes to navigate from list to list and would like a drag and drop capability to make it easy to move bottles around. Still (ha ha) a great resource.

Great app overall, but certain features (such as the search bar) often bug out or get stuck in a loading loop. Fixing this and some other minor UI issues would bring it to 5 stars.

It could be a great app if the 'signed in' user experience worked. I have tried numerous times to maintain my own data in the app but it repeatedly logs me out and doesn't allow password resets to get back in. This app is only good if you can save your own data, like untapped for beer.

Nice app, but inability to sort by real cost as opposed to a range that tops out at $150+ is a huge oversight. If you want to search for a bottle under $200, you cannot. You have to search for everything over $150. Also, you can only filter by predefined price ranges and can only filter for 1 predefined range at a time. This severely limits the usefulness of this app. Otherwise it's a really nice app.
