Software Applications
There are currently seven apps available for use with the DMXcat system:
•DMX Controller: A single universe (512) DMX channel controller with two user interfaces (sliders or keypad).
•Fixture Controller: Controls multi-attribute fixtures from a built in database.
•RDM Controller: For bi-directional communication and control of RDM enabled devices.
•DMX Tester: Analyze and adjust settings for transmitting or receiving DMX.
•DIP switch calculator: Simplifies the configuring of DIP switches used for setting DMX addresses.
•Light Meter: Useful for setting light levels for on-camera use (requires light sensor).
•RF Spectrum Analyzer: For surveying and visualizing Wi-Fi networks in the 2.4GHz spectrum
Hardware
The DMXcat’s hardware interface is a compact battery powered device which fits easily in a pocket or tool pouch or may be worn on a belt. It uses Bluetooth LE technology for communication with the smartphone applications (up to 50’ range). Without the limitations of being physically connected, the user can move about the workspace as needed with their smartphone and run the various apps while still using the phone for on-the-job communication. The device’s five pin XLRF connector/cable assembly allows it to be connected to a point in a DMX data chain to test or control of the various DMX/RDM functions. It is charged using a standard USB to Micro-USB cable and charger. Other features include a built-in LED flashlight, an audible alarm for locating a misplaced unit, XLR5M to XLR5M Turnaround, LED status indicator, and a removable belt clip with a split ring safety point. Optional accessories include XLR5M to RJ45 Adapter, XLR5M to XLR3F Adapter, XLR5M to XLR3M Turnaround, and a Belt Pouch.

This is the most easy-to-use, compact, and mobile DMX512 fixture tester I have ever gotten my hands on. The app, even without the dongle is good just because it includes a dip switch calculator, a light meter, and a wi-fi signal strength meter.
This app had better reliability until the latest update. Now I have about 5 seconds of connectivity and then it disconnects. What is the point of feature updates if I can't connect to use those features.
Great functionality. Love being able to address fixtures without have to figure out their own menus via RDM. Also nice to be able to focus conventional rigs on stage. Wish I could control multiple movers.
**** Update *** DMXCat updated firmware yesterday, then had the issue Listed Below. It then Updated again this afternoon, now it is working.
love the product and it worked great with my samsung for months but stopped working after the last update. my coworkers iPhone still seems to work though. (update 15 minutes since the review was posted I got a reply from david and it's working like a charm again. thank you david.)
I have two DMXcat units but I could not connect to either one with my Galaxy J3, which is running Android 9. My colleague can connect to both units with his iPhone. Please fix this!
It doesnt connect to my Samsung phone anymore after the update. Why release a update that effects the use of the item.
Please can I use this app to program lighting scenes and chases, or is it just for testing and troubleshooting?

Won't connect to my phon
Tried to use this with a 6 etc smartpacks for some space lights and ended up having to use my Blizzard Buddah, It has no master level. I had to scroll to each light and adjust them individually which takes to long. Also cant group channels together. It's a great idea but this app is incomplete and needs more options also need to be able to select Channels by touching the channels number instead of typing the number and beable to select more than one channel to adjust. Not worth 300 dollars until these changes are made.
Worked great until I upgraded to Android OS 8.0 now the dongle won't pair at all! EDIT: With help of City Theatrical's David we figured out the problem! If you are having issues with connecting the dongle make sure your GPS is on!
Great tool. It has already paid for itself after 3 months of use. No more getting a lift in or ladder to change a fixture profile from standard to extended mode. Not perfect. Having connecting problems with this version. (Aka bluetooth item found, but DMXcat cant find it). Also needs a few more options that my older tester had: Highlight with Next and Last buttons for faster flash testing though a rig
Needs work on the data base. Profiles not correct on most fixtures. 5 stars when the profiles are fixed.
Great tool... has some issues with elation rdm .
Best mobile tester out there. I am a mover tech in the shop and even use this on the bench. The little bell button on the home page is awesome- will make your dongle chirp if you've forgotten where you've plugged it in.
Great app, would love a trackpad for the pan and tilt, as well as the encoder wheels.

Great tool for me....
Really handy and does everything I want, One thing would be really handy to add is the option for Landscape viewing and split screen. Sometimes would be helpful to run on my tablet while viewing a drawing in split screen to flash out fixtures, means I can do everything from one device.
My go to device for trouble shooting fixtures. Nothing else out there so easy to use.
Great tool for testing. But I agree with Bill that, the app should and could do a lot more. Subs and a little effects generator maybe? Would be handy to use it as a little controller on events with LED's laying around the facility.
It was great gadget. If yiu need something worth the money this is it.
Have problems connecting to it. Before it worked fine. It shows the device on the app but doesn't connect now.
