I'd like to give 5 stars for the years past but don't want to mislead anyone. 1 to 2 would be appropriate now but I'll average that out to 3. I sincerely thank the developer for the many years (how many? maybe 10- certainly back to the droid era) of use I've gotten out of my several dollars expenditure. I'd gladly toss more in that direction to keep it going. I don't know exactly when I started having trouble but I think it was Android 11 that started the crashing and slow responses on startup. I still use it every day, and kill and restart it when it dies, which is probably once an hour or so. I'd hoped that Android 12 would clear up the issues but unfortunately it seems worse on my new phone. DoggCatcher is an old friend now, who needs a lot more help getting around. As a software guy who has maintained products over years, I understand the relief that comes from jettisoning that responsibility, so I'll just say goodbye to DC, with thanks.

Really would love an update for this... This has been my preferred podcasting app for almost a decade, but now it's constantly crashing on me to the point that it's almost unusable. Sometimes it's random, but it's typically when another app takes the audio focus (when I get a text or message, any kind of notification). It's incredibly frustrating and I'd love it if this was fixed in some kind of update.

I bought this app based on all the good reviews, but it's been extremely buggy since I started using it and I think I'm going to give up. It crashes regularly and stops playback for no reason. Even if it was working well, I'm not particularly impressed with the features to let you organize your podcasts and autodownload episodes, which is why I chose this player. Solid meh. Would probably keep using it if it wasn't buggy but would still be on the lookout for something better.

It's a great app for playing podcasts. However, there a few too many bugs that need to be fixed. 1) Podcasts will randomly pause playback. Hitting play will start it again, but it rewinds back and replays some of what you've already heard. This can fix playback for a little awhile, but it will pause again after a random number of minutes. 2) Downloads/Updating never stops. Once you open the app, it will begin to check for updates and download new episodes. Once complete, the notification will remain and never finish. 3) The Pause/Play button on the notification drop down and on the lock screen will only display a pause button after the app has been running for awhile. It will still do both pause and play actions, but it will always appear as a pause button. Annoying bugs when you're using an app you paid for.

This app used to be the best option out there. It's flexible, it's capable, and it provides a lot of options. Unfortunately, it seems it's become excessively buggy and very prone to randomly crashing and bogging down the device for minutes at a time when it tries to restart. I've had it happen every few seconds to every few minutes, and it's infuriating. It can't even submit bug reports anymore. Every time I try, it crashes!

This used to be a 4-star app. It had its random glitches but I was able to overcome these issues. As time goes by, this app becomes less functional. I have paid for this app for its features and convenience but now it is unusable. Specifically, it tries to re-download podcast episodes which are already in my Playlist and it does so when the app refreshes, which it does often. If you happen to be listening to a podcast when it refreshes, the podcast will end abruptly but then delete itself.

I've been using this app for a long time now and I've experienced many 'update lags' in the past, but this latest one has initiated the coup de grace for me. Samsung Galaxy S8+ w/Android Pie is completely incompatible with this app now. I've been patiently waiting for a fix (random, but consistent pauses which render any podcast unlistenable), but nothing comes. So long, Doggcatcher, it was fun while it lasted.

This app is very dated now. The interface is such a slog. The widgets and notification buttons don't work on android 9, the seekbar is just rediculous in that it can be disabled or enabled, but it's a 6 click round trip to disable it then the same again to enable it, it should be in the options menu on the controls pane. It's very easy to accidentally catch a control and screw up your status. If I need to correct an error "mark as new" and "mark as unplayed" don't move the seekbar to the start.

Solid mechanics, clunky user interface. Little use of intuitive gestures, everything always seems to take an extra click eg show notes. Play order takes so many steps, no dragging. They even have a button... but its "display only". Really? So whats the point? Going back to my old one with the lousy mechanics but drops the myriad of teeny tiny menus.

Unusable on my pixel. I go way back with this app. I have used it and loved it for years. But now, it's so buggy it's causing the phone to freeze up. It constantly deletes and re-downloads multiple episodes among other things. It hasn't been updated for over a year and I assume that's the problem. It's too bad. This one used to be the best by far.

Worked great until I upgraded to a Galaxy S10, now the app is unusable. It skips and stops randomly, I have to close and reopen the app every five minutes to keep listening, inserts long silences, the widget doesn't work anymore, the lock screen controls are hit or miss. Tried uninstalling and reinstalling a few times, playback deteriorated after a few hours no matter what. It's a shame, loved this app til now, now I'm going with another app.

Long time user. I've tried changing to other podcast players but always. one back to Doggcatcher. Downgraded my review because recently, I've experienced problems with the app. Constantly downloading until I stop the app. Also, it will stop playing and I have to unlock my phone and hit play. Annoying while I'm working in the garden and dangerous while driving.

Abandonware: Until recently, I was a happy paid-up DC user for longer than I can remember (early 2K-teens?). Back then, as a podcast addict who wanted precise control, it was a 4-star app. But, slowly, it began the fall behind innovations in the broader podcast market. Failing to implement continuous Chromecast playback was the time-to-go event for me. I now use 'Podcast Addict' it's not perfect, but it is better.

Versatile and functional. It still stand as one of the best around for those who seek control over one's pockets/rss consumption/organization. I am glad to see the developer is still activily supporting the app. The one reason it isn't a 5 star app, is because it could use an UI refreshening. For example, true dark theme for podcast notes/rss feeds. Support for podcast that support annotations/chapters. Notification controls could reflect the podcast cover img as it is supported on android 8. On several areas text does not fit the frame in which is in but this might be due to that I use the large text setting within android (one size over the standard), nevertheless, it is the only app that has this issue.

I stopped using it. Was a great app many years ago, but they haven't released an update in nearly three years and there's a TON of bugs. Very annoying to use, pauses randomly, sometimes loads to a black screen, and also the volume will go up and down on its own if used without headphones.

Jam. B. Dec 1, 2021

Clunky, crashes a lot, very difficult to subscribe to a new podcast without it downloading a huge backlog, downloads incorrect audio files for episode titles, and the interface is obscure and counterintuitive. It has full functionality when you look for it and if it were a free app I'd have no major issues but as something paid-for it's well below par. Having recently come from iOS, numerous free options on Apple devices (e.g. Overcast or even the Apple Podcasts native app) are better.

EDIT: No updates for more than year. Still great, but seems abandoned. Fast, lightweight and responsive. After jumping between multiple alternatives, can definitely say, DoggCatcher is the best. Great flexible playlist, convenient and intuitive interface, nice material design, enough functionality in podcast discovery.
