Dolch Sight Words Flashcards for Android is intuitively designed for children learning to read. A simple and easy to use app that help teach the 315 most common English language words using visual and hearing stimulation. In 'standard mode' children will see the words and hear the words pronunciation; in 'quiz mode' the word will be seen but the sound will only play once the word on the screen is touched.
Background and importance of using the Dolch Sight Words:
The original Dolch Sight Words List is a list of frequently used words compiled by Edward William Dolch, PhD. The list was first prepared in 1936. Though Dr. Dolch compiled the list based on children's books of his era. The list contains 220 "service words" that have to be easily recognized in order to achieve reading fluency in the English language. The original word list excludes nouns, which comprise a separate 95-word noun list.
Many of the original 220 Dolch words cannot be learned by pictures or "sounded out" using common sound/letter phonics patterns and have to be learned by sight; hence the term, "sight words." The original Dolch words which compromise of 220 words and the additional 95 nouns is usually divided into grades, though for native English speakers, all the Dolch Sight Words should be learned before elementary education begins.

Great, simple flashcard app for sight words. I use it with students when we have downtime or during transitions.

beautiful...it helps my little one to know english words.
It's great that there are lots of words. However, it would be a much better tool if you were able to mark off words and take them out of the card pool as your child learns them. Then you would be able to focus on the words your child doesn't know. It's hard to shuffle through 315 words and remember which ones your child needs to work on when your child knows 260 of them.
My son responded well and it served well to reinforce what we are reading to him and make him feel more confident with his books. I also really like the writing practice tool. I only wish it had more words. I cast my phone's screen to the TV in auto mode and just let him pick up what words he will while he is playing.
It doesn't look like the screen shots shown in the description. There's no way to toggle the case or quiz mode. The different levels of flash cards are all mixed in together with no way to separate them. Was not a useful app
Unpolished, needs an easy way to mark problem words to revisit later. I do not recommend it.
I like the app and it will be good for the student I tutor. However, it's hard to tell what some words are using the dot pattern. Otherwise I have no complaints.
Great app for my 5 year old learning sight words. I just wish when I changed the settings they would save. Have to turn off sound every time.
This app is very helpful to the beginning readers..my pupils will really learn from this. I hope you will add games as well.
Needs a way to mark words that my child still needs to learn.
Is there any way to get rid of the distracting and quite inappropriate ads? Their presence alone makes this an app I tend never to actually use with my child.
My pre schooler loves this he is a special needs child and this app has helped him significantly

Its really helpful. But wish the font size can be enlarge, because I'm using it in a class of 40 pupils. Some of the words tend to be small. It would be excellent if we can enlarge the words.
