App unusable for myself. Love the idea but when browsing books it would autoscroll me all the way to the top of the list, like the worst rubberbanding ever, don't like trying to speed my way down the list. Signed up on the painfully slow website. The app is basic but works fine. The only problem is the majority of books are not available in the UK so had to cancel.
This is reviewing the app, not the service. The app appears unfinished. It does not have a lockscreen play/pause button, doesn't allow me to select a specific download folder, and today decided to start redownloading sections of a book i already jad downloaded. Perhaps others may have use it for purchasing books, but i prefer a browser.
Smooth UI with options for both cloud streaming and DRM free downloads to use while offline. Edit: had to get a new phone. Getting downpour up and running on the new device was a breeze. I highly recommend the service.
Amazing selection but the app needs a little bit of work. The search option sometimes does not appear. Really happy to have the app though! Also would like to manage subscriptions on the app and not want to log into the website on a desktop.
I thought this was a DRM-FREE purchase. Where can I find my downloaded audiobook in my file manager? [EDIT] I found it. I actually used this app more than audible. The rental option is perfect for me cause I don't re-listen to my purchased audiobooks anyway.
I love Downpour as a service. I don't use it as an audiobook player but it let's you download your books (without dealing with zip files) and you can stream books if you really need to play something for someone.
Been a downpour customer for almost a decade and the service is wonderful. They have a few kinks to work out in their mobile application but they are super receptive to feedback and will enhance the product as needed. 10/10
Would be better if I could sort books
I started using Downpour several years ago for long road trips I take with our RV. It is so nice not having to carry CD's with us. It's also great that I can download a book before a trip on to my phone so I don't have to use my data and also don't have to worry about cell reception. Downpour is a bargain.
Searching could be improved a lot, starting with sorting and filtering options. EG, sorting by number positive reviews, or by publication date, or by price. It would be nice to be able to filter out fiction when I'm looking for nonfiction.
Playback keeps stopping randomly, very frustrating. This app has not been updated in almost a year so I guess they are not interested in fixing it.
Keeps locking up. Increases volume with other apps running and goes silent even though it is still playing. Gettimg tired of having to uninstall and reinstall every other week
Nice app. Happy not to use audible. But not many controls for navigation in the book. And selection I hope will improve a bit.
I love that you sell audiobooks without DRM, however, since you also have books with DRM it really should be in the details of the book. The lack of DRM is the primary reason to choose you over audible. I fully understand that you also have to provide the locked books for those who want selection rather than freedom. But please make it possible to differentiate the two.
Just downloaded the app, it keeps on crashing when I click on the book. I can't use it. Hope you could fix this. So dissapointed.
Fairly basic app for books. Main issue is when I download a book it is on occasion incomplete on the last chapter. What would also be nice would be a custom timer. Otherwise I really like Downpour over Audible
Although the app can be a bit finicky, it works well enough, and is certainly a far better experience than I have ever had with Audible.
My experience with downpour has been all positive. I love the selections that are offered and the variety of ways to enjoy.
I don't like the app. I like the service. App started to stop and start for whatever reason. I need to uninstall it or clear cache periodically, otherwise it doesn't play any sound despite time showing progress. It never worked perfectly, but recently it is just unusable. I tried on different Android devices and it was similar experience on all of them. Please fix it.
