Although a lot easier than the old NES game, this game has much to offer. It's interface is easy to pick up, and the story is great. The updated version, has more dialogue than the original. With very little difference as far as maps and item placement. The updated graphics are subpar; but it's a Dragon Quest game...(if you want graphics go to Final Fantasy). Overall, a great value for an awesome game.

BEAUTIFUL, but I sometimes miss the NES version, music, mechanics, and all. PLEASE SELL DQ (DW) 1 & 2 EXACTLY as they were on the NES, but with touch interface & a myriad of controller options for droid phone & tablet users who have one controller or another. I can get it elsewhere, but I'd rather get it from Square Enix, out of respect and appreciation for them and all that they do and create.

Contrary to some bad reviews, this game was seemingly never bugged, they've just changed the experience growth so that the Prince of Cannock has a large gap after level 14 where he doesn't learn any spells. Although considered one of the worst in the series, this port polishes it into a surprisingly nice experience. Although well known as a grindfest, it offers enough options to flow very well in the mobile environment. Absolutely the definitive version and a prerequisite to Dragon Quest 3.

A much bigger game compared to the first one, longer playtime, more characters and enemies as well as equipment. Bigger and slightly more robust story (although that really isn't saying much.) Though oddly enough it feels like it hasn't aged as well as its predecessor. Great game, took me about 16.5 hours to complete. Recommended mostly for hard fans of the franchise as it feels like the most skippable of the bunch.

It's overall a good game. I just find that random battles occur way too often. I feel that every 3rd or 4th step on average has a random battle making it very irritating. The Holy water or holy protection only works VERY briefly and you need to use the spell over and over way too often. Otherwise there are no complaints. On the other hand it may me some kind of glitch that I am facing. In that case it would be 5 stars assuming it will be fixed.

Perfect Dragon Quest game on the go. The Erdrick Trilogy on smartphones are some of the best Square Enix ports with no perrormance issues, beautiful sprites and soundtrack and amazing quality-of-life features. This game just like some of the older remakes of DQII, fixed the difficulty spike that emerges mid to late game. This version is great for pick up and play with a Quicksave function for those in a tight spot and nowhere near a set in stone save point. I would recommend to all RPG fans.

It's definitely a fun game and worth the price. A lot of people say this is one of the tougher dragon quests. The only difficulty for me the encounter rate. Other quick saves and auto saves will protect you from losses. The drop rate is insane though at least for me. I ended up with 6 prayer rings (that never broke but once.with chronic use) and a bunch of other "rare" items. I finished the game with a full cursed set (inc devil tail lol) on both princes and still beat it with no problem.

So, I really liked DQ1 whereas the game was pretty spot on other than the names of things ie, monsters, towns/dungeons/map, people I really enjoyed it and appreciate SE for putting it on mobile. Now with this game I was really enjoying it except with a few things. 1. The rate of monster encounters (seemed a little over done compared to DQ1). 2. Trying to figure out what Im supposed to do in the game DQ2 walkthroughs online arent very helpful considering a majority of them are based on SNES DW2 and so getting stuck in a few areas are easy ex, The tower of wind. 3. Which I felt being with all that was online stating POC should learn the spells at certain levels that I was getting frustrated when I wasnt learning them at the certain levels but after looking on youtube and seeing the walkthrough Piggasus had done I saw that the spells were learnt at a later level. I hope that this is it.

Although weakest game in DQ series it's a still good experience and much improved over NES and SNES version. I enjoyed it very much. If you are stuck on a map, there is walkthrough on YouTube. Touchscreen controls are good enough. Well, it's a Dragon Quest, how can it go wrong? 😀 Enjoy.

I have no complaints about this game. Regarding the supposed 'glitch' involving the Prince of Cannock's inability to learn new skills after level 14-- this is not a glitch. In order to compensate for the increased level cap, the level at which each character learns new skills has been adjusted. This was a great continuation to the first game and I am looking forward to playing the third. Thank you for this port.

This was a really fun game to pick up and play. It is pretty dated, but the graphics seem to have been updated since it first came out. I saw some complaints about the frequency of encounters, and I agree with them. The encounter rate is very high, but the game is still very fun. My favorite part is probably the enemy design. While pixelated, the designs come through and look great.

Great little game. Only reason I give it 4 instead of 5 is that the random battles come way too often. Like you can walk 3 steps and have 3 battles. Makes it so you don't have to "grind" to get to the right level but it interupts too often. Other than that it's a fun, simple game.

This is a difficult one to review. The port itself is great and I definitely felt as I got my full five dollars worth out of the gameplay, but I can't recommend it to anybody outside of old school RPG fans or Dragon Quest fans wanting to experience the full original trilogy. The game requires significant grinding and the direction on where to go next can be very confusing at times, along with the notorious high encounter rate. But to those who enjoy grinding out these old RPGs, I recommend this.

Edit: After giving up on this game because of the higher than normal encounter rate I decided to finally return to this game after beating Dragon Quest 1-6 and I have to say I am glad I did. It was my least favorite of the Dragon Quest games I played but still an overall enjoyable experience. My only criticism comes at the higher than normal Dragon Quest encounter rate.

A classic RPG that feels like a classic RPG in all the wrong ways. It has about 20 min. of content stretched out by dozens of fetch quests, a sky-high encounter rate, and dungeon design that would make Final Fantasy II blush. A warning--you NEED to grind and collect certain special equipment if you want to beat the final boss. Play if you love Dragon Quest and have a lot of patience. Play if you have played any other DQ and are morbidly curious. Otherwise, just stay away.

NPCs tell you where to go so you are mostly never lost. world map is HUGE compared to first game. encounter rate is a little high. game is a tad grindy, but so many encounters across a huge map means grinding occurs during travel. new party system + mob fights means more strategy, and slightly longer fights than DQ1. one handed controls are a godsend just like last game. I like DQ1 more, but this was fun.

Very good game. The music and fight sequences are really done well. The only downside is the enemy encounter rate is way too high. Would still highly recommend this game.

This sequel to the original RPG masterpiece is a masterpiece in and of itself. Dragon Quest II is a fantastic game that improves upon every aspect of its predecessor. It may be difficult, but the grinding comes naturally as you explore the world and you'll be well prepared to face the gradually harder enemies.

Worked great while I was online. When I went off it gave me a "Can not connect" error and refused to play. Square Enix really is the most objoxious company, aside from Ubisoft, when it comes to DRM on every platform they sell games through. Of course, DRM issues being what they are, it will almost never be a problem while you can still refund. Saved me a good chunk of cash on 3-6, which I was planning to purchase as well, with this broken mess.

I mostly missed out on this game during the NES era, so I'm happy to finally have a chance to play it now. I just beat the game and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I was a bit skeptical about the controls at first, but I got used to them fairly quickly and found that they work really well in a game like this, where you're either exploring a 2D environment or doing turn-based combat. I highly recommend this game for old school RPG fans.

A great version of DQ2 made for the mobile devices. Easily play with one hand, experience a DQ2 that is a bit more forgiving than the NES original, more like the GB port. Nice boost to graphics over the NES and GB. Just a fun game to play anywhere.

as a port its fantastic and there were no problems. new art looks good and everything works well. as a game i just feel dragon quest 1 and 3 arr so much more enjoyable. this game was still good enough to go through but a few steps were a grind and the last cave is brutal.

Dyn. Jun 13, 2019

Dragon Quest II is actually my least favorite game in the series but unlike the IOS and Android version of Dragon Quest III its actually the best version of the game you can get, it actually fixes problems with the original game which made the game much more enjoyable. I was surprised how well it works as a phone game, its obviously pretty out dated for todays standards but its nice to play a classic RPG that was very impressive for the time.

This game plays great on the Galaxy S9+, but only in 16:9 mode. If you try to put the game into fullscreen mode, the controls will misalign. Please release the update to this and DQ3 to take advantage of the 18:9 screen, like you did DQ1.
