I can't speak for everyone, but personally, this game was pretty easy to write off at first glance. It has so-so SNES graphics, a skeleton of a plot, and the battles play out like a first-person, still-frame picture book with a little ticker at the bottom that tells you what's happening. It doesn't help that the game is also outdated--this was originally released in the US in 1991 (when I was just 6 years old), and by today's standards it's super basic. Further, if you do boot it up, you're going to have a heck of a time getting used to the controls. Still, gosh darn it, the game is just a lot of fun to play. The story, while certainly barebones, feels adventurous and fulfilling, even if the majority of the adventure is created by your random encounters. Escaping the pyramid, waking the legendary giant bird, and falling to another world aren't compelling plot points, but they feel personal. The game also has a sense of discovery that rivals modern games like The Witcher 3--even with the simplistic presentation, finding and looting towers is exciting and tense. Awesome game--challenging, satisfying, and fun.

Surprisingly works very well. I thought the vertical screen and touch screen controls would be bad, but it actually translates fine. The UI is a bit ugly though, but a lot of the Square Enix mobile translations have that problem. If this is your first time playing a Dragon Quest game, this isnt a bad place to start but I'd start with the DQ1! It's not as good, but it'll really pay off story wise in 3 and get you used to the controls. Not to mention you can beat it in under a day.

Another good port - and this one lacks the sequence-breaking clues and glitch of I and II. Great music. As a game, it's a lot of fun. Simple, archetypal quest, building on the nonlinearity of II. IMO, the core game was worth my time, but the convoluted extras were not. The "personality" system is interesting in theory but felt more annoying than fun. Newbies - for some reason people are very careless re: spoilers with this game, so don't google anything until you're done.

It's Dragon Quest III, one of the all time classics of JRPGs and video games in general. The SNES era graphics are gorgeous and controls excellent for a mobile game. However, I can't give it a full 5 stars due to a few bugbears. Pachisi is out, so the game's main mini game is gone and it's absence is blaring. Enemy animations are gone, which was present in the SNES and GBC version of the game. Items are missing info boxes. None of this is game breaking and it's still worth playing through.

It's a great game overall, however it's a bad port of the original, taking away all fighting animations drastically impacts the immersion of the game, I may as well be playing a card game, but even those have animations, smh. There's also certain modes missing as others mentioned, this is like 70% of the game, at the price it's an alright deal, but I would highly recommend playing either the original or an emulated version of the original.

Solid experience. Not a fan of touch controls but this handles well. Autosave feature is divine. Saved my bacon several times. Faster leveling makes for easier play without need to grind. The touch pad bug where buttons beneath my finger are triggered can be annoying, but resetting the app fixes it. My only issues are the lack of enemy animations as this is a direct port of the original mobile version that removed them due to low power phones back in the early 00's. No pachisi either.

Controller UI takes over the screen, so it covers the original display. You can move the controller UI, but not away from where the original game graphics are. As a result, you don't get to see the game, despite any modern phone having plenty of room to display both the graphics (forced into portrait mode) and the UI. Sloppy design on this port.

Only played part of 3 on the NES. So I don't know all the differences, but I do recommend it. The class system is interesting in the builds you can make. Autosave system is horrible. Do not rely on it. The quick save slot (shared by all game saves) does work great. Graphics are decent and very true (monster wise) to the original.

If you're playing the games in chronological order, DQ III will feel like a big improvement over II. And it certainly is—the scale of the game is massive, especially for its time, and playing it is simply a delight. Every town has its own little story and characters that merge seamlessly into the main narrative of the game. Best entry in the Erdrick trilogy, and one of the best DQ games.

Flexible and interesting party system makes combat fun. Optional AI party makes grinding quick, as only the Hero needs input. map is big and fun to explore. game does a pretty good job of conveying where to go. day/night system makes towns 2x as explorable and travel more atmospheric. town stories are ok, overall story is good. i immediately wanted to play it again after finishing it. definitely a strong finish to the Erdrick Trilogy.

I'm five minutes in and this game has me SOLD. Already well worth the purchase, satisfied with the product. It looks nice. It looks crisp. It looks clean. It sounds amazing. Everything I am looking for in an RPG to get me back into the beautiful mix I've been missing out on. The update on the graphics looks sweet compared to the old versions, and probably keeps all of the story and flow as the elder games surely did. I just played the first one on iOS too which was another great purchase.

I like Dragon Quest III but western fans shouldn't be given a inferior version of this game, what happened to the opening and the enemy battle animation from the SNES version that this version is based on, the only reason I would think to remove them is to be more accurate to the NES version but its already so similar to the SNES version you might as well go all the way. I do still like the game but I was disappointed not getting the best possible version.

Hooked once again. I've beaten DQ 1&2 and loved them both. DQ 2 was better than 1 and so far DQ 3 is better than 2. Wasn't sure if i was ready for a long quest after just finishing DQ2 but once i got my questing crew together and made it through the first dungeon i was hooked again. Only a small way into the game but it's more of the same but better and again an excellent port. Great for getting through these times of isolation. Thanks for the good work devs, much better than downloading a rom.

An all time classic, one of my favorite JRPGs and a must play for all fans of the genre. Though I must say it is at it's best only after having played the first two games. There's just so much done right here attempting to summarise it all here could never do it justice. Took me about 34.5 hours to complete and O loved every minute of it. Also the controls work very nice and the portrait orientation feels perfect for a game that you'll most likely play on the go.

As with DQ2 right before a recent bug patch that solved this very same issue, where you tap registers slightly lower than it should. You have to tap higher to select what you want. If you're not paying attention, you will defend in battle instead of attacking, amongst other things. Still no fix to the issue after two weeks.

The gameplay is great. Having options to let your team be controlled by the CPU is nice when you're trying to grind. The music and graphics are top notch. Highly recommend.

One of my all-time fav, but this version is ridiculously stupidly easy because they boost your stats so high the game isn't fun. My baby wizard reached over 80 MP at level 4. "You gained a level, strength goes up by 11." It used to be high when you gained 3. The game lost all balance, monsters are too easy, equipment becomes worthless, etc. There doesn't seem to be any way to turn the stat boosts off 😭😭

*UPDATED* First things first, I am a HUGE Dragon Quest fan. It is my favorite game franchise of all time. This is an exceptional JRpg and quite possibly the strongest entry in the series. If you're a fan of the old school, or new to the franchise, you cannot go wrong with Dragon Quest 3. Having it on my phone is a real treat. Previously, not that long ago I rated this game 1 star. It wouldn't launch on my S20+. However, the issue seems to have been resolved.

This remake is missing features from the old game boy game - enemies don't have animations, there's no Pachisi game, you can't make big money in the monster arena anymore, names of items and places have been changed for no reason and are confusing, and this old game actually lags sometimes on my brand new phone. Maybe try it if you've never played the original

This game is very nostalgic. The graphics have improved but the spirit remains as intended. The addition of the Personality system adds a layer to classes. These are not alignments, they govern your stat growth as you level up. A great title from WayBack. :)

NO ADS! NO MICROTRANSACTIONS! NO BATTLE PASS! An updated classic of the game that is still as fun to play now as it was then. It'll slog a bit on old phones, but it's an excellent to go game for something like this. It's an excellent port of an excellent game. If you like RPGs, you should absolutely play this game.

Ant. Y. Oct 30, 2018

The game is amazing, unfortunately on my pixel 3 all of the controls require a button press where there is no button. To click the buttons I must press about about a half inch above the displayed buttons. If they can fix this it would be a great experience across the board

Easily one of the best games for the price on the playstore. Dragon Quest has always been one of my favorite game series, and the simplicity of DQIII makes it the perfect dragon quest for a Mobile port. Also, this is pretty much the only official way to play this version of 3 legally in the USA.

Fantastic update to the game that serves as climax to the Erdrick/Loto Trilogy, and....well, I won't spoil the story. Classic Dragon Quest gameplay in a 16 bit style, coupled with the first appearance of the new class system and character creation courtesy of Patti. Highly recommended for any fan of JRPGs or other Dragon Quest games.

This is incredible. I used to own the Gameboy cartridge of this game, and loved it. This version takes what made the original so special and simplifies the user interface and controls making the battle mechanics easy to understand. Absolutely well done.
