I've played Dragon Warrior 1-4 on Nintendo many times. I finally started trying the Android versions and picked up #5 to finally see what happens after the first 4. I'm just about finished with this game and it has been a great play. The storyline is fantastic and the gameplay is easy, maybe too easy. No grinding necessary. I look forward to #6!
So far,I really love Dragon Quest V but I have an issue with this version. I believe the update back in the summer of last year made the game run worse. Everytime I boot up the game, it has slow down in battles and the world map. It's annoying and I was hoping the recent update would fix that, but it didn't. It could be my phone, but DQ IV and VI run perfectly on my phone so there is no excuse. Please fix this issue.
I am really enjoying this game so far. The controls are easy to understand and can conveniently be played with one hand. Some on here do not like the vertical screen but this game is easy to play on a subway or other tight quarters. Good story so far. It reminds me of cross between zelda link to the past and final fantasy. I highly recommend this game!
An absolutely cracking game, and a great port. Easily would be 5 stars, but for some reason you can't turn the sound all the way down. If I want to grind whilst listening to music or an audiobook. Then no luck, as the sound options only go down to 1 and not 0. If that gets fixed then easily 5 stars.
Absolute masterpiece, the story is all that a Dragon Quest game is about, family, and of course, the fight against evil. This game is a remastered version of the DS, so basically everything that the DS version had is here, but with better graphics and some minor changes in menus and stuff. The gameplay is the basic DQ gameplay we all know about, the turn based RPG with random encounters, get to a fight, choose your actions carefully, and don't die. A must for any DQ fan to play.
While IV was great, this game has huge amounts of technical improvement. Between new things, such as boomerangs and whips, and some cutscenes, as well as the game having a bit more in terms of strategy, besides just level grinding until you can beat the next boss. The story isn't bad, and it is a little shorter than the later games, and even IV, due to it having 6 chapters, but it's still great and (technically speaking) a huge improvement over IV. It's a great addition to the Zenithian trilogy.
Classic and beloved jrpg reimagined for mobile technology. The price is off-putting but the adventure is well worth the cost. Graphics are of the highest quality pixel art. Battle animations are smooth and fluid. The story is the real star of the show here. The ups and downs had me nearly in tears and grinning ear to ear. No crashes or technical issues found in my playthrough of 53 hours. I am 100% satisfied with this purchase.
Major security issue with this app. The most recent version of the app now requires *full access* to your Google Drive account in order to backup your saves. The previous version correctly requested to manage its own data only. This means the app and SE can access every file on your Drive. SE has indicated this is "working as intended" and they will not fix it. Do not buy this app.
I would gladly give it a 5 Star rating save for the fact that the overworld does not load, it glitches. I can only see towns and the remaining background is all black screen. However, while traversing said map, every other step or so will turn the background to what it is supposed to be. So it is basically black screen, world, black screen, black screen, world, and any other variant of that switching/glitching back and forth. I can't continue on if I can't see.
A great game at a reasonable price with all the DS copies going for scalper prices. The touch controls are annoying if you are more a console gamer than mobile, but it's definitely worth getting if you're a fan of RPGs or Dragon Quest. I only played on a tablet so I'm not sure how this would be on a smaller phone screen.
It was a quality port with no issues. Cloud save was available and the game was more smooth than any other experience I've had with this game. Touch screen controls are very intuitive and convenient for this game series in particular.
Dragon Quest 5 is one of the finest JRPG's ever created and if you're looking to play this classic for the first time this is a great purchase. But... If you are like me and bought this version to have something to play during a long flight, you're going to be extremely disappointed. For some reason this single player game, with no online features, requires an internet connection.
This is my first Dragon Quest game and wow, it is addicting and I'm loving the story. I was skeptic having my first experience be on a mobile phone but from what I've played, it runs incredibly smooth on my Pixel 2. Not only that but I think the DS version looks more appealing than the PS2 copy of this game. This game is incredible. Im not finished but I now see what the hype over Dragon Quest is about and this is coming from tons of JRPGs beforehand. Can't wait to try the rest of the series!
Dragon Quest V is how I'm spending much of my time sheltered-in-place because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Bought this game because it's one of the highest-rated in the series and rightly so. Played the first🐉 Warrior on the NES back in the 90's and I'm getting back into genre. The price is worth it for the better graphics and music over the decent DQ imitation Dragon Lapis. Playing on the Android is also more convenient then using an online emulator and this game's developers deserve the $upport.
Game was working great but the newest update to accomodate iPhones broke the UI for me, which is infuriating. The camera control bar is now midscreen for whatever reason instead of the very bottom. I'm on Galaxy S9+. Hopefully they come with another update to fix this soon, otherwise this review is staying at 3 stars.
THE GOOD: A neat game with simple rpg mechanics and an ok story. You can recruit some of the monsters you fight and the pixel art is pretty nice looking. A playthrough can take over 30 hours to complete. High replayability. THE BAD: Leveling up can be pretty grindy. Only a minority of monsters in the game are recruitable. Of the monsters that are recruitable, many are only recruitable late game. Wonky analogue. Inventory menus are a pain.
Dragon Quest V is phenomenal. You start as a young boy in awe of your father's fighting prowess, searching for the legendary hero. By the end you'll have become a grown man with a wife and children of your own. It's a story about family, legacy and the inevitable passage of time, a journey that spans generations. Portrait mode is perfect for one-handed play. Some character accents were grating (sorry, Bianca); recruiting monsters is random. But the gameplay is pure JRPG goodness. So worth it.
Probably one of the best in the series but what's up with the cloud saves? When I try to do cloud saves it lets me select my profile and give permissions but then all it does is go to a black screen with a blue loading circle in the top left corner of the screen. Please fix this
Love these game! I believe these games r real entertaining n wholesome. My little bro increased his lvl of reading with this game.. He had to read to learn tips to the next level n get further. These r games I seriously recommend. Not the war/killing games where there's to much shooting.
A decent port of an amazing game. Wish they would add controller support and an option to remove portrait mode. Also, the music seems low quality for some reason.
Simply amazing! Although it is arguably one of the easiest DQ games, it has a fantastic, generational story and that traditional DQ feeling that never gets boring. Fun combat, cool characters and overall a great JRPG experience.
Much has been said about DQ5 itself and I don't need to repeat that here. This is another great mobile port, just like DQ4 - expect the same menus and controls.
I wish the music's composer hadnt prohibited Americans from access to the orchestrated version of this game's music (check out PS2 version, online, to see what you are missing, especially "Dangerous Enemies"), but I suppose we deserve it. I shall endeavor to fight to demonstrate our worth, though it looks like a lost cause, given the remorseless, evil nature of so many of my peers. I sympathise with the composer, as well as those others we have wronged, whom I failed in my attempts to protect.
The kids are out of school today and I just turned on Netflix and what did I find lol dragon quest story it looks like from the characters from dragon quest v :) and yes he watched me play and he's recognizing the characters and the monsters and I never knew I hope you make more I hope there is more lol :) and yes he's only six but he loved walking around and leveling up for me :)
This game plays great and looks great. (Playing on Galaxy S20 FE). The only complaint I have is the quick save feature. Since at times on a mobile device you may have to return to the home screen for a call or text and can lose progress if the game drops out of ram it would be nice to be able to save any time. It's a little limited on when you can save.
