DragonBox Algebra 5+

DragonBox Algebra 5+
- The game that secretly teaches algebra
DragonBox Algebra 5+ Is perfect for giving young children a head start in mathematics and algebra. Children as young as five can easily begin to grasp the basic processes involved in solving linear equations without even realising that they are learning. The game is intuitive, engaging and fun, allowing anyone to learn the basics of algebra at his or her own pace.

DragonBox Algebra 5+ covers the following algebraic concepts:

* Addition
* Division
* Multiplication

Suitable from age five and up, DragonBox Algebra 5+ gives young learners the opportunity to get familiar with the basics of equation solving.

DragonBox uses a novel pedagogical method based on discovery and experimentation. Players learn how to solve equations in a playful and colorfull game environment where they are encouraged to experiment and be creative. By manipulating cards and trying to isolate the DragonBox on one side of the game board, the player gradually learns the operations required to isolate X on one side of an equation. Little by little, the cards are replaced with numbers and variables, revealing the addition, division and multiplication operators the player has been learning throughout the game.

Playing does not require supervision, although parents can assist them in transferring learned skills into pen and paper equation solving. It is a great game for parents to play with their kids and can even give them an opportunity to freshen up their own math skills.

DragonBox was developed by former math teacher Jean-Baptiste Huynh and has been heralded as a perfect example of game-based learning. As a result, it is currently forming the basis of an extensive research project by the Center For Game Science at the University of Washington.

This is awesome. When my kid started playing it first, I thought I had been swindled as it had some pictures and clicking stuff made things disappear. But then a few games later things started changing and by the end, without her knowing she was working with Xs, As, Bs and Cs. Mind blown. Definitely recommend it. Going to buy the next level up

It doesn't explain why equations work and if your stuck there is no hint box all i know is blobs cancel out blobs, was expecting more of a experience. Like if this blob and another blob was 5 over 3 then use this mathematical principal to complete. But no it says match these to complete, once you get to fractions on both sides there is no binding the knowledge so you fail. Im sure there are hundreds of games out there that have the same "this is technically math" problems that teach you nothing

My kids; 4y, 6y& 10y, had a little trouble figuring out how it worked but after helping them with the first few games they quickly became ADDICTED!!! Just like with Numbers and Chess!

This app was not only helpful to my first son it also build confidence and interest for my second son. It's his idea to download this app. I just wish I could use the app across iPhone and Android to save some money.

Superb way of learning algebra. My kids are progressing much faster - and enjoying learning - using this excellent app.

I'm still being ignored by the app developers. This app is like a matching logic game, so easy my 4yr old can do it. DO NOT purchase this but rather the advanced version. There really is no "Algebra" in this version. Still waiting for the refund

My two daughters (6 and 10 when they started it) loved this game, and even though my son (who is older) breezed through it, he loved it too. My youngest continues to ask to play. I even enjoyed playing it! I've seen other reviews complaining about the dark aesthetic of the game, but my kids all loved it and thought the monsters were cute.

Evil characters and monsters, girls do not like this, this app is made for boys. It's a very dark application and really takes away from the brilliance of the function of the app. Should have a friendly happy option for girls with happy avatars and grow something happy like a unicorn with accessories that girls want to see. My daughter likes the game play but complains about she doesn't like the monsters so she doesn't want to play. Noticed all good reviews were about their BOY loving the game. I would give 5 stars if it was friendly so she desires to play, isn't that the point?

My 3 year old DAUGHTER and 10 year old Step DAUGHTER both love this, and think the monsters are adorable. Things don't need to have rainbows and kittens and sugar to be cute, and there is nothing wrong with this game just how it is, whether it is for your girl, boy, or yourself. We find this game delightful and engaging, love the art and character choices, and think the dragons just get cuter and cuter as they "grow". The Game moves at a great pace- cementing skills before moving forward- and the "show me the solution" keeps it from getting overly frustrating. The game is re-playable, and charming.
