I wanted to love this app. I've been lost ever since Zerotouch got pulled and thought this app would be the perfect replacement for hands-free driving; unfortunately, it wasn't. When responding to an SMS message, Drivemode would claim "Message Sent!" and it would indeed show up in my messages as sent, but the recipient never received any of the messages. :( The ability to automatically load and connect via bluetooth is a great feature, but it tends to get clunky. The app will load and instead of running in the background, will take over the screen (which can be problematic when you're trying to use GPS) Trying to switch back to my original screen kinda defeats the purpose of hands-free. I didn't really use any of the other features,; as my car will make hands-free calls, I was mainly hoping to use it for hands-free texting. When the other party isn't getting the messages (and worse, I think they are!) it defeats the purpose. Sadly, uninstalling.
Have been using this app for over a year and have loved it. However, it will no longer find or allow me to add Pandora music app as one of my music app choices. Also the voice command/microphone has been nothing but a nuisance, misinterpreting words, interrupting music or conversation when it thinks it hears a question. It also fails to read some texts, some are read some not. I never had any of these problems with the app before...I use it less and less often. A fix would be great!
The only thing I wish this app had was the ability to choose whether you want to respond to a text or not using your voice instead of an "x" button. I use it to read texts while I'm working and I'm using Bluetooth, saying "no response" or "respond" would be helpful instead of having to bring the phone out to cancel it. Besides that it is wonderful!
This app allows you to drive safely and still communicate with others. The only thing I didn't like was that when it sends a text out it sends a message and link for the app. At first it was fine but when the same person gets the link and message after ever text it starts to get frustrating and annoying. It's too much when you have to keep scrolling just looking for a specific message and see that all the links are taking up so much space. It would be fine for 1 per phone number or person but 1 for every message is just way too much. If that could be fixed or minimized then I would definitely rate 5 stars.
Absolutely had to find something that would read my texts since I'm on the road for long periods of time. Biggest annoyance is the inconsistence of the auto engage. Just now, sitting on my sofa, it turned on. Yesterday, i was on the interstate for 30min before it came on. Happens too often. The other features work really well, but i tend to use my Google Assistant for the navigation and call manager. The interface is easily navigable and cool looking. The sounds are crisp and fun.
This app seems to be the best option of a whole field of terrible. Its function is inconsistent. Sometimes the voice to text is spot on. Most of the time I have to repeat and over articulate every message more than once. The new updates with automatic send without voice command has been a little embrassing when it gets the message wrong and sends it before I can get it to get a revision. I only use this app when I am driving. If I could find something better, I would switch immediately.
Great App! This app is very customizable. I have it set to turn on when connected to bluetooth in my car. It turns on automatically, and turns off automatically. Just as its designed to do. Its even intuitive enough to ask me if i want to shutdown Drivemode if I start using different apps on my phone, and senses that I'm not driving anymore. And if i receive multiple tests in a row from one contact, it only replies automatically to the first incoming text. LOVE IT!
like the app. my request is could you make a setting for those who don't have a lot of mobile data, to be able to use all but navigation system settings. I tried to send a text message with voice while driving. it has a hard time hearing me say "yo drivemode" and when it does I try to tell it to send message and it says "please try again" it's kinda discouraging. thanks for taking the time to read my review
This is the best and closest alternative to Cortana with Windows Mobile out there. It will start automatically when you connect to the Bluetooth of your choice (so if you have a headset it won't start!), and it will automatically read your incoming text messages if you want, and you can respond via voice commands. This is something that other apps (unless your car was designed to work with those apps) like Android Auto and Samsung Auto couldn't do but worked immediately from this app.
It's UI is absolutely friendly and easy to navigate, use, and control. The biggest complaints I have is that it's notifications when you get a text can be super annoying, with the voice reply being extremely buggy, and the voice for drive mode is absolutely rubbish. It's already using Google's voice reply. why not use Googles Assistant to voice most of it?
I've clocked up thousands of miles with Drivemode now over the last six months and am very pleased. I use it mostly on a motorcycle, but also with the car, both using BT connection as the activation trigger. The interface is good (there's a 'Labs' option to display all icons at once that I prefer to scrolling between options) and the functions are good. Using voice to reply to text and WhatsApp is easy and I've paid the upgrade to remove the signature from messages as a show of support. I've two niggles: 1) I use CoPilot - a satnav that's supposed to be supported by Drivemode, but it doesn't work with the voice-search feature. I don't know if which app is at fault, but the devs need to talk to each other and solve the issue! 2) The auto-activate feature only works with my Galaxy S8 if it isn't in my pocket (i.e. the always-on clock is showing). Otherwise, I'm very happy. 5 stars despite the niggles.
Need REAL hands free capability, whether on Bluetooth or not. I should never have to touch the phone to initiate or reply to someone. This app makes good strides to get there, misses so many key aspects, like setting appointments and reminders. The devs are very responsive when you have questions or issues. They do explain that there are many challenges to full hands free use, but that is their goal.
Free version sends a link to install it along with messages. Even paired with my car, it doesn't speak through the car's speakers. Initiating a text message requires hands i.e., it's not hands free. Have to turn the radio down when driving or it thinks the radio is trying to respond to text messages. Going to uninstall it and look for a different app.
I've been using this for a while. I stopped driving because of covid and now that I'm driving again there are some many problems. I can't see any of my contacts when I go to call I have to tap a drop down and say with messages to see recent or favorite. For some reason I can't pick panda as a music player the voice command doesn't work at all. I don't know if it's a setting I need to change or if it's something wrong with the app.
I was very used to Android Auto, but when I upgraded fro the oneplus 3T to the 6T, it just didn't work, and so I decided to give DriveMode a chance and boy o boy was I surprised, it takes a few mins or hours to get used to the workflow, coz unlike Android auto, it doesn't stay in screen by default, but u could go to the dashboard and have it stay. But the real delight is the minimized tab view and the overlay it presents when u have ur favorite audio player (Stellio) in my case stay on top of the map app or any other app for that matter and that's my favorite feature of this app, not to forget the swipe functionality for volume, prev, next, etc for the music, that's just amazing and I love it!
Torn between 2 and 3 stars on this one. It's neat, but not terribly functional. It's a bit slow to start up, slow to start the music player, stability is questionable, and interface isn't really well suited for use while driving (it seems they were more worried about making it cool than quick and easy to use). It has promise, but needs a good bit of improvement.
I've been using drivemode in the past, but for the last 5-6 months it says "Time for a tune up" and that because of an update the application will be down from the store. Can't find it in play store, only by Google search. I get that they might need time to fix it, but 5 months is an overkill. Until this gets resolved, it's a one star for me. (I don't know how users say that it work)
Excellent app. I spend most of my time driving and having to answer calls and replying to incoming messages is a breeze with this app. Works well in all my vehicles and allows you to concentrate on driving whilst simultaneously getting your office work done! Also, Jed and the team are very helpful when you require any assistance with fully utilising the app. Keep up the good work!
Great app for driving with excellent message handling. This was until it was taken down for "tune up". This was months ago and even though the app was updated in November 2019, it still does not work. WHY?! Unfortunately although it is/was the best program of its type around, until it is sorted it is not worth all the disappointment.
This app looks spectacular. Has a lot of 'bells & whistles'. However, the main thing I need is for it to read messages. Maybe just reply and say that I'm driving. It does neither. It doesn't matter what the settings are set to, it won't read the message but it insists on an answer. It won't auto reply as needed. I don't want to do this while driving. Looks good but fails at the critical moment. In hindsight, it's most likely that it won't work with anything above Android 9. I have Android 10.
Glitches occasionally but that may be related to phone. Talk to text or talk commands never seem to work (I have it set to try to route through bluetooth microphone). I mostly like that icons are large as my phone seems to limit touch when it senses I'm driving, a feature I cannot disable, so large icons help. Compared to Google's version I like that I don't have to shut app down if I need to open another app.
I have turned OFF auto launch and this app keeps launching whenever it wants?!How the heck do you not reply to a message using voice? It only let's you respond. I don't want to respond to every text. Just got this as android auto is buggy. Needs to be able to send a text instead of only replying by voice. Also be nice to be able to send a message from the phone. Like if I have a passenger holding my phone while I drive, they should be able to use my phone with Drivemode running in the background
I love the app. It lets you set set so your texts are read aloud and respond to them all hands free so you are allowed to keep your eyes on the road. The only bad thing I have to say about this app is it won't let you send outgoing messages. It needs to update it so that you can send outgoing messages through your phones messaging app. You can respond if someone sends you a message but it also needs to be able to send one also.
If they could get the bugs out, I'd love it. When it's working, it provides some useful features that I really like. Sometimes it works perfectly, launching shortly after I start driving and stopping shortly after I park. But other times it launches randomly, as if it thinks I'm driving when I'm sitting on the couch or in bed hardly even moving. Makes no sense. That said, I'm still using it, as I haven't really found a better alternative. Hopefully the developers can work out the kinks.
Once you figure out the interface, it's great. Give it a week at least. My car handles messages horribly, so I turned them off and let Drivemode handle it. Also, I love that I can use any music player I want! The larger tab works best for me since my car cradle has side holders that otherwise get in the way. Great app!
Loved the app and have been using it for a long time. It has some compatibility issues for phones preloaded with Samsung's SmartThings where it won't pick up calls through voice controls (old phone didn't have it and voice control was fine). Also, lately while I've been driving it has been asking for my feedback and rating which is rather distracting and dangerous. Actually, the only reason for it not losing two stars is how well it has worked in the past.
