Almost perfect, if only there was a small gap between the buttons and the movement list. In many occasions when using the arrow buttons, accidentally touched movement list, and the game jumped to that step. Had to manually get the game back to the step I had been watching. It is a bit distractig. I changed the button size to Larger in Settings, but did not help as my finger-tips are big. Need some more space around the buttons. Thanks.
Very good, overall. But...It seems I have lost the ability to delete pgn files though, which is very annoying. The option seems to have just disappeared. After digging around in the phone settings (Galaxy S8), I was able to delete all the files this app had stored. Quite a work around, but it worked for deleting the pgn files. Go to: Settings, Device Care, Storage, in upper right corner drop menu select Storage Settings, go to Files, scroll to Droidfish.
All I wanted was to go back to playing chess. Picked this app. It really does have a dozen of fatures that advanced players will appreciate but for me it lacks one fundamental feature, the layout. I am more focused on avoiding touching the field with list of moves that accidentally takes me into the twilight zone than on the game itself. Surprisingly the field is where my thumbs are. How about a swap? Maybe there is such option already available but got lost in the long list.
The engine plays in such an unnatural way it takes too much time in the first moves (like 5 min for the second move). When replying a game theres no "play" button you must do it with the arrows but the moves jumps to only whites moves you have to constantly look at the notation to see blacks moves, its annoying. The app cant analyse games only positions. Nevertheless one of the best chess apps in the store. No adds.
Perhaps the best app of its kind. However, on my tablet the board is a bit smaller than the screen. I would like the board automatically to be from the winner's perspective. Not possible the editting of the Annotator tag, and it is absent from the headings. And for moves I would prefer tapping on the board instead of the buttons.
Extraordinarily powerful. Played white and black against my favourite 'Chess' set at level 12 pro. Demolished it in both games with only ca 2 seconds per move as opposed to chess' 30 seconds. Learning about 'quiet/waiting' positional moves, the hall mark of Stockfish, where the opponent is slowly entangled. Only comment is to clarify move made on board. Would also be nice to set up positions. Also would be good to describe the selected playing strength. No way could I beat it at top level.
Easily the best traditional chess app in the Android store. No ads. Open source. Pretty smooth interface. Seems aimed at being more educational than providing a "juicy" experience. That is to say, don't expect haptics and sound effects, but do enjoy the guidance and the ability to backtrack and understand.
It seems there's a wider blunder range for at least Elo 1770 up to 1900+. I've won games in that range that felt undeserved since the app seemed to make terrible blunders at random points. Doesn't happen much though for 1900+ so it is possible the blunder range tapers at higher Elo but this is just a guess. Hopefully there's an option to adjust it.
Excellent feature set and clear analysis. But it is a severe battery hog as it keeps processing when minimized. It should go to sleep entirely when it is closed or minimized. I have to force stop to relieve the battery and processing drain. Fix this and it is easily 5 starts. As it stands I'm looking for a replacement.
I have tried many chess apps and this one is the "real deal"! It is one app that is built focusing on function and not just looks. Many apps out there have 3D and what not. The options and functions and information is simply amazing. No wonder users have rated it very high.
Game no longer saves my engine strength setting like it used to. Now I have to set the strength every time I open the app to start a new game. This is ungood. Otherwise a very nice chess program.
I really enjoy this chess app. One thing that would make it even better is the ability to play engines against each other. To my knowledge the only app that does this currently is Chess for Android. I would love to see this feature added to DroidFish. An eval bar would be nice as well. Regardless, I still think this is the best chess app for Android that I've seen.
This app is supreme in chess as built with Stockfish chess engine. But there is a problem that while checking the game the auto forward button do not work and it does not automatically forward moves, please fix this issue otherwise this is the best app in chess I ever came across. Edit: Oh I didn't noticed that, now it is working. Thanks for your help
What's there, it's great. I'm immensely thankful for nightview mode, which should be default anyway in all apps, but isn't. The app looks beautiful, it's fast, there are arrows for variations. However, it would be absolutely glorious if it kept position inside every pgn file we open, so that it could be used like real reader. Whenever you switch pgn files and go back, you're lost. In case of big annotated files, it's a problem. Not only game inside pgn, it should also keep position in text. The other thing is navigation. As others have noticed, those buttons for previous/next move just don't cut it. You should introduce gestures, tap left side of screen, go to previous move and vice versa. For that purpose, it would be great to have an option to disable tapping the individual moves in a tree. We have other options to switch to variations anyway. Also, we need button to remove the board completely for big text files (reading on full screen) and bring it back when needed. I would be ready to pay for app with all these features, keeping position being the most crucial one. I also didn't figure how to put NAGs in the comments. It says it's supported, but I don't see how.
Can you please provide a way to copy analysis information to clipboard and further copy it to any apps like Google docs or any word processing apps, because I want to write books on chess. If you could add a tutoring mode to let draw multiple arrows and select multiple squares to make training videos with any screen capture apps, then it will be wonderful app. One more suggestion, can you make droidfish play different analysis on different windows(multiple tabs)?.
Horrible colours. Only the chess icons piece set is being properly rendered. The rest are showing blacks as white. The custom colour setting is also bad. The colour picker shows one colour, the colour that gets selected is another, and the colour that finally gets applied to the board is something completely different. Nothing makes sense. I think this app is not optimised for dark mode at all.
This app is pretty good, and I still need to defeat the engine. Seeing it's accessibility, I tried the set engine strength option, but when u tryto type out the strength, the app suddenly starts to hang, and then suddenly the app isn't responding? Developers please fix this issue as soon as possible.
Simple, uncluttered and No ads. I love it when a developer gives something like this to the world. The chess engine is pretty good. I haven't been able to beat it and that's what makes me play everytime. (Psst: I don't think any human can beat it either) hehe. Good Peter. Please keep it up. 🙏
When will be SF12 be added as an update to the app? I'd like to suggest some things to the developers. But first, I must say that you have done an impressive job. Now, there's a mode for computer vs computer. But where's the fun in there: watching Stockfish draw or lose to itself isn't cool. It should be more like Arena. Allow for users to match engines of their choice against Stockfish (a tournament). More important, allow for engine or player to lose on time instead of a negative timer.
The only negative thing about this app is it absolutely drains your battery, otherwise its perfect. Love the interface/look, ease of use, and all the different options it provides make it EASILY the best Android chess app out there. A way to set up engine tournaments would put this app into Legend territory.
The best app to practice Chess at all level. It's much better than any other app on Android, and it's totally free without any ads. It manages pgn files like computer softwares and... so many other useful features. Perfect. I'm amazed.
The Best Android chess engine I've ever seen. Tons of features, opening books, import pgns, multiple engines like Texel (seperate download), cuckoo chess and stockfish, board editor that lets you play 10 knights vs 9 queens, dozens of options on 3 different menus, plus super strong computer opponent and analysis. All for free without a single ad in sight. This guy is just a chess fan who made a great engine. I'll never use anything else.
Its a really great chess engine. It helps me analyze moves and improve a lot. Hopefully we get a feature of setting how good the AI (Stockfish) is because some moves makes no sense and too hard for me to even analyze it.
the application is just awesome, it has everything I'm looking for and guess what, it free and no ads, u guys are awesome, keep up the good work update: still the best app up there no doubt with that, but i really wish if u guys are able to include a feature to show Attacked pieces that would be great indeed
very good tool, well organised options. analyse variations do not have move numbers inserted, it is difficult to follow, missing STOP ENGINE option to pause analyse and continue later on. missing more options regarding the time for players.
Hi, very good chess app, thank you very much, your work is great, difficult to find a bug in this app, i liked it, i wish if you could add an evaluation bar of engine,(which shows which side is better) and seperate button for autofarward in next release...will be appreciatted. Thanks in advance..
I have around 20 chess apps filling up my phone and I like them all. Each has its own style and "personality" . That said this one is my favorite. It is, against me, the strongest and most humanlike and has the nicest features. Also no ads.
The only reason I don't give 5 stars is because it pauses for minutes on end even on the easiest levels which leads me to think it must be pretending to be thinking rather than actually being stumped by my genius. It also doesn't have an unlimited time control and even though you can still play the game to completion by letting the time go into minus figures and simply playing on it just bugs me seeing the clock at -3:15. Anyway, it's a great app. You should download it!
