Drumate Free - Drum Rudiments
Rudiments are basic exercises for drummers meant to increase your speed, ability and creativity when playing the drums. But it's just not enough to play along a single tempo track to master them.
Drumate lets you take advantage of the processing power in your phone to generate a vast amount of training patterns from a single rudiment. This makes it a lightweight and efficient app, since it needs very little storage space, and it allows you to experiment with three practice modes:
• Constant: practice the rudiment at a constant speed, with or without rests. This mode is useful when getting used to the rudiment structure and feel.
• Steps: play for sets of steps, each at its own tempo. You can go from a slow to a fast tempo, or the other way round. The length of the steps is adjustable and rests can be included as well. Use this mode to push you further when gaining speed.
• Up and Down: start at an initial tempo that will be increased on each bar, until it gets to a maximum value and then decreases to the initial value. This mode allows you to practice from "open to close to open" and is great to cover a wide range of speed to increase your resistance and speed.
The rudiments can be filtered by type, and you can mark rudiments as Favorites so you can filter them and focus on sets of rudiments. It is a great tool for musicians, specially drummers and percussionists. Drumate is the true mate to improve your drumming!
I myself am a drummer and I developed this app because I thought it was possible to harness the power of phones to do more than just play tracks. I have achieved this by creating an algorithm that uses a single bar of a rudiment to generate diverse and adjustable practice tracks that I believe will enrich the training sessions of drummers and interested musicians, while substantially saving phone storage space.
The app currently uses Android's internal synthesizer for playback, but with your appreciated help and contribution when installing Drumate Free or purchasing the Premium version, I will be able to buy a software license for better snare and metronome sounds. Your help will also allow me to continue working as an independent developer to make it better, listen to your opinions and update it.

This app is pretty great for practicing rudiments. It has every standard rudiment you can think of. Constructive criticism: a visualization of what beat you are on in the rudiment would be great (think of the note lighting up while it plays), it would be great if the noise that is played could be changed, and it can be difficult to hear the click of the rudiment, even when playing on a practice pad without using an external speaker.
I've only used it twice, but it is already helping me to be a better drummer. I used to practice rudiments to a metronome, but hearing the rudiment as I play is a big help. I like the various filters and modes. My only wish: better quality snare and metronome sounds. But I read that the developer is trying to get there, so good on him (her?) Haha. Anyway, a solid app - thank you!
Although I would love the app to allow some kind of editing for the rudiments ( for example change where the accents lay or subdivision s) that's no reason to recognise how useful it is in performing more accurate rudiments. Overall, a great companion for rudiment review. Thumbs up, use it if you want to sharpen your or your student's rudimental accuracy
It's excellent for learning rudimentary paradiddles. My skills and my stick speed have increased immeasurably. It also gives you full tempo control. So you can learn at your own pace. I only give reviews to apps that are worthwhile. This one certainly fits the bill. A well thought out app for sure.
An excellent app for practicing the "Most important rudiments." So to be clear, this app has what many drummers consider to be the most important rudiments, not necessarily the 40 basic, but the 40 most important. However the app is When I have the time, I use the app To go through all 39 available rudiments, and I remain on each rudiment until I play Each one close to flawlessly for 1 minute straight. So depending on my rhythm it can be as quick as 40 minutes practicing
Nice app to work on rudiments a really solid app but the only problem is 40 is the lowest you can go and I can play at any tempo fine. Now that needs to be fixed because young drummers when they start out may need a slower tempo. Of course you should try to challenge yourself but beginners should be able to be under 40. Please fix this and your app will be better.
this app is a wonderful tool, it helps those who are willing to increase there ability as a drummed by honing on 39 of the 40 rudements, at various tempos. whether you want a constant, perfect teacher, or one that increases tempo slowly to show where you need work, this app supports it. Im a high school student in the Ringgold Marching Tiger band, and this app helps, and has helped me become a better percussionist. Thank you for working hard, so others can as well =).
Highly recommended. You get to learn the rudiments and what they called, so it's more than just a metronome app. Fully adjustable so good for all learners new and advanced. The drums sounds are played alongside the metronome so you really get a feel for the sounds also.
Genuinely a fantastic app, clearly designed with effectiveness, simplicity and features a user-friendly setup making practicing these rudiments easier than ever! Honestly, even helped my partner who, for reasons unbeknownst to us drummers, has little to no natural rhythm. If she sees this I'm done haha.
Would give 5 stars and buy if I could eliminate the lead-in metronome and go right to the drums, or change it into a smart 4 clicks that are relative to the incoming BPM. But that said, I have learned more with Drumate about beats in 30 minutes than... well, ever before. I am even getting a feel for the sheet music notation itself and for the simple beats I can now hear them in my head I now wonder why starting with drum beats first 1st, to stress timing, is not standard MO. I am not a musician.
Great stuff. My only suggestions would be. Make it capable of a little more volume. Make the count lead in 4 instead of 2. Or an option to choose. Something visible to show the counts. Readout of the current BPM when increasing and decreasing speed.
great for practicing but after I speed up the tempo for each exercise, after about the 4th or 5th time of speeding it up, it won't play anymore. I have to close the app and then reopen. it does it on every single exercise, every time.
Very good app. Could be improved upon, but still a very good app to practice and learn rudiments. My only complaint is that this does not have hybrid rudiments on it. If it had hybrid rudiments this would literally be the perfect app for me. Great work!
Excellent tool in my opinion! Allows me to run through all the standard rudiments at various speeds and choose how many bars (cycles/reps) so I can change leading hand. Just one one many ways this app can be used.
The perfect way to learn all rudiments. You just have to do you part and practice. You can apply these rudiments all over your kit or just your practice pad. Practice one round of all rudiments at least every 2nd day, however it should be every day. It only takes half an hour. You can do it. Stop dreaming and start chopping. All the best. Respect. S
Great app! Picking up the drums independently became a lot easier after downloading. My only strife is that the continueous loop still does have a break after a while. Keep up the good work!
My attitude towards rehearsals has improved and it's only been less than a month since I found this app! You should definitely get this if improvement is what you're after in your drumming especially on rudiments. Great app! 👌👍
I use this app almost every day and highly recommend it. It really does help. I've only put 4 stars because it lack some layout in the app, it is very basic and maybe if they tried more with presentation this app could go a long way
Great app. Neat, organised only minus is that it doesn't show you how to physically play the exercises. Just a minor downside coming in as an absolute beginner.
Good app to keep my hands on the move during holidays. You can learn those rudiments you never had the time. It would be interesting to see the bar moving like sort of karaoke so people like me can also learn how to read.
Spectacularly helpful. Inspired me to start practicing regularly. I can feel improvements in how responsive my weak hand has become after literally just 2 days. Looking forward to master all the workouts!

I would get the paid version if I could, but it is unfortunately not available in my country. Love that it lets you hear what the rudiment sounds like and that you can play along to it exactly in order to get the count just right. Though there are ads, they aren't in a loading screen or something you're forced to interact with - they're at the very bottom of the screen and barely noticeable. The only thing that would make the app better is just a basic metronome function (without the rudiments).
