Created in January of 2017, VidAngel owners Neal and Jeffrey Harmon decided to expand their love of clean content into the comedy world. So with the help of their VidAngel team, Dry Bar Comedy was born. It was designed to be a space for viewers to enjoy stand-up comedy without all the harsh and sometimes negative jokes that are typical of most stand-up specials. Comics can come to Dry Bar Comedy and perform a great set, and then you the audience member can re-watch their special later on the Dry Bar Comedy app.
Like VidAngel, the Harmon brothers wanted to create content that families could comfortably watch together. With Netflix currently being the only proprietor of comedy specials at the time, they realized there could be a great opportunity for new and upcoming comedians to get their content seen and enjoyed by a larger audience. The only requirement was that their jokes be clean and family-friendly.
Now that we’ve gained enough visibility in both Utah and the world of comedy, we’ve had some bigger name comics come perform for us. We’re lucky that we have such a great audience of followers that keep comics wanting to come entertain us!

Not a very friendly app to stream with. Have to shut down multiple times. Also disappointed that I signed up for a free trial and not all content seems to be available. Tried to watch the Rodney Norman special and can only view tip video. Love the concept, but not sure I will continue with the app quite yet. I love the concept and would pay however, seems too glitchy as of yet.
5 stars for some of the funniest clean comedy I have ever seen. Sadly it's gotten a little more risqué lately. Better than most comedy clubs, but you need to choose comics carefully. The app was majorly improved but is now a paid subscription. I already pay for Vidangel (which let's me use filters if avail.), and a lot is available on YouTube. Right now it was $39.99 annually so I felt that was reasonable and I'm happy to support it, however I wish it was just bundled into VidAngel.
Used to be free with the option to tip the performers, but now it's 100% paid subscription with zero free content. I understand that everyone needs to make money, which is why I tipped every talented performer I watched, but being forced into a subscription is a deal-breaker. You should've kept it the way it was, because it's an uninstall for me.
It would be tenn times better of an app if it were free. You would have more downloads, which means more views, which attracts more comedians to your program, and then the cycle continues. But since you have to pay your loosing at least 50% of consumers. Your stuff is free on YouTube so why pay so much to have it on a different app.
Love comedy but hate the vulgar language in most act. That is why I love this app so much as most are hilarious and clean. Don't have to worry about my kids hearing anything they shouldn't.
Funny as all get out and a nice change of pace as far as stand up comedy goes. I can watch and laugh at most of the videos in close proximity to my children without having to worry about what profanities may be blurted out, and although some of the material may be "controversial..." it's COMEDY! That's the point! Bringing light to, and laughing at typically un-humorous, or even melancholy subjects! Some great dad joke material in there too. Love dry bar!

I love the app overall. It's easy to use & I love being able to have a library of clean comedy at my fingertips. However, the streaming is not good. Sometimes the app will play several minutes before having to load up more, sometimes it only goes a few seconds. I was hoping the update would help this issue, but so far it's worse. I have not experienced this problem with any other video app (Netflix, YouTube). I hope this gets fixed in the next update! Thank you!
I love the concept of this app; a platform for clean comedy! The app gets stuck towards the end of a special, and I can't back out to the selection page without completely closing the app. But I haven't had problems going back to the selection page if i'm a few minutes in to a special. (Let's face it, not everyone is your variety of funny.) The content seems to have gotten a little more edgy/risque recently, but still not as bad as a lot of standup comedy.
My experience of this app- open it when your phone is vertical (portrait) or the icons stretch and they don't rotate to horizontal (landscape). You can't use pause or go back, you have to close the app and then open it again (it maybe compatibility issues with my android). However it does work with no lagging when playing, and there is a good selection of comedians to choose from, decide who you want to watch and it plays it straight away (then you can turn your screen).
The app's UI is trash. Trying tap the screen to go back 10 seconds because I missed something and it doesn't want to respond. I've tapping numerous times and 30 seconds later, it pops up. It's infuriating. I have a screen protector but that shouldn't matter. And even when it does work the FF or RW buttons don't work. You can't scroll to a specific point like on YouTube because the bar doesn't even show up. Five stars for it being free and having funny comedians but -2 because of UI annoyances.
It's difficult. Some of the content is amazing, and its a great service so I want to rate it higher. Unfortunately the app interface is buggy and horribly unresponsive. I have to try multiple times just to open a show I want to see because it keeps randomly refreshing on its own, and sometimes even if I try open something. Its slow and sluggish. If the interface and responsiveness could be improved, this would be one of my favorites.
I only just installed this, and I agree with the handful of reviews I've read so far - pros: LOVE the comedians, LOVE the fact that it's clean! And what a variety! Cons: WAY too slow! There are no options for choosing the streaming quality, and no captions - not even auto-generated. An audio-only option would be great, as well. I'd be willing to deal with some ads for these features (but I haven't watched a full show yet - I've got DSL and it's taking *forever!*). Thanks!
The comedy is great. The app is terrible. It's almost completely unresponsive nearly from the moment the app is opened. If you're lucky enough to get a video started, it will inevitably freeze and become fully unresponsive at some point. This is made worse by the fact that once you close and restart the app you pretty much have to watch from the beginning because the app isn't responsive enough to skip ahead using the chapter titles without resulting in another lock up of the app.
This app is absolutely awful. I've not been able to watch a single video successful without it stopping and/or closing within 10 seconds. But that is if I can even get the app to load to the home screen, which happens maybe once every 15 attempts. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the app, restarted my phone, closed everything out, etc. Nothing else make this app work. I'm so disappointed because I love the videos on FB but wanted to watch them on a different outlet, guess that's isn't happening
The idea is amazing. So is most of the content. The app is just awful (or should I say it's a joke?): non-responsive, crashes, doesn't even enable full screen most of the times. Not to say that when it does respond, it can take about 5 minutes to actually do so. So imagine: whenever you think you finally got full screen to work, it goes back to the menu.
One main thing that would be great is if you could have an option to choose by comedian or have them in alphabetical order. Also to update it the same time as your Facebook page (if possible) like searching for a video after seeing it on your fb page and it wasn't in the app. other than that is pretty damn good. Also a download option to watch offline eg; on a plane would be great too
Great content, but terrible app. Not able to Favourite from the home screen. Instead it takes you into the act, then you can't stop, start, pause, nothing. It just plays. You can't go back to the previous page; you have to force stop and start again. Had clicked an artist as Favourite, tried to exit, the screen did its own thing and un-favourite and wouldn't favourite again.
The app is completely unresponsive once you start watching. No way to pause if you have to and the only way to stop playing is to shut the app down completely before trying again. In the middle of a set everything went right back to the beginning of the set!!! There was no option for me to skip ahead to where I was previously. The concept is awesome, but the app needs a ton more work.
Loving the idea of this app. However, the videos will not stream smoothly on my phone. They stop VERY frequently for various lengths of time (from seconds to minutes). Every time I try to use the app my phone shuts it down after about half of a video, saying the phone is hot and needs to cool down. The app also seems to drain my battery very quickly. An hour long movie on YouTube uses less of my battery. I don't know if these are common problems or if it's just my phone.
80% of the time nothing I click registers, and after a while the app will just close. I've watched one show and had quite a few problems in that time range. Upon trying to watch a second show the app closed out the entire show, and then after throwing me to the home screen it closed again. Perhaps it's my phone, but I don't have these issues with similar apps.
This app is a buggy mess. From bugged videos playing non-stop in the background to the "give us a rating" 1-5 star pop-up freezing the app. But its redeeming quality is the content. It's so good that I still tell my friends to get it. It's so funny that I put up with the bugs, which aren't being patched like they ought to. It's a love/hate relationship. I hate the bugs. They're so annoying.
The comedians are great and are fun to watch with lots of options. Sadly the app leaves a lot to be desired. The player is unresponsive at times, there is a lot of buffering even on Wi-Fi and it's a CPU and battery hog. Please developers work on improving the app. There is a great product here but the user experience is lacking. Edit: The player has improved and is more responsive but why is it that the videos have to buffer so much even in high speed connections?
Great idea, no functionality. I love the layout of th app, and that it gives you a chance to tip the comedians if you choose (they work hard on their material). There's always new content and someone new to discover. However, this is the worse functioning app I have ever used. It force closes constantly, the buttons in the app just stop working so you are forced to shut it down anyway. Its just sad because this app has so much potential. I end up watching drybar on YouTube.
Won't play any videos for me, I tried 5. I select the comedian, the next screen comes up, I hit the yellow play button, the next screen comes up, I hit the white play symbol, and nothing else happens. *Edit* Applied update, everything seems to be working fine. Love Dry Bar. They have a lot of great comedians. Wish the player had rewind/fast forward capabilities. Few minor glitches here and there. If you let them know they seem eager to fix them.
This app is super glitchy. The comedy is great, but when I choose one to watch, the play/pause button doesn't disappear from the center of the screen. When I tap the pause button, it takes roughly a full min to pause. Same when I tap the play button. And when the show is done, I cannot back out to the main menu, I have to close the app from the app tray.
As many others have mentioned already, the content is absolutely amazing but the app ... the app is where it all breaks down. I want to see the stuff but just can't without a perfect connection, that being WiFi. If you're on data you'll be looking at black screens and the loading circle animation a whole lot, most likely. ( Not sure if region dependent but this is at least the case in Europe )
