DW Learn German - A1, A2, B1 and placement test

Original: The app is crashing today. In the end, it shows a backend failure message. I refreshed and refreshed, and now I can see the course list. However, I can't start courses. Could you please help to fix this issue please so that I can start learning again? Thank you!

Brilliant and easy to use ONE DAY, the NEXT DAY it says page could not be loaded after I have watched the video and want to begin the exercises. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling, tried uninstalling, switching my tablet offf then back on. Installing the app again BUT IT DOESN'T WORK!!! People were complaint of this 2 years ago, why isn't it fixed? It is SO GOOD when it works. PLEASE FIX IT! Thanks!

I attempted the placement test. Very buggy. Every time it gets to the final question it just freezes, so you never get your score. I decided to try the first lesson anyway. On the first unit, it marked all my answers correct. Then it said my score for the unit was 80%. This app is unusable garbage.

The content is great I really like it. But the interface is horrible. Firstly, opening of folders with lessons is super slow which is annoying. Secondly, several days ago accidentally all video has broken down - I can not run it. It is loading, I can move the start moment of video but it does not respond to running clicks. So now, I can not use the app at all.

A solid, challenging, and engaging app for learning German, but not nearly as good as using the website. The lessons, while all similar in structure, seem inconsistent in scoring and saving progress. On today's lesson, I firmly answered 70% of the questions correctly, but was somehow given a score of 25%. I attempted to go back and fix a few exercises to improve my score, but could not access anything before exercise 8/12. Great content, but the UX needs work.

I really like this app as it is easy to understand. But there's a problem, at first the videos work just fine, i like the videos as they are explaining so well, but after i close the app and open it again, the "play button" on the video can't even be pressed, i can't watch the videos anymore! If i can't watch the videos, how can i understand the lesson?

The videos are no longer playing and the developers aren't listening. Get this, if I mute the video it'll play. If I unmute it, it stops. The lessons depend on the videos, so if they don't play, you can't use the app to progress through the lessons. The developers claim the problem was fixed - it is not fixed. The videos are kaput!!!!

It's better the website than this app. I use Chrome in my smartphone to follow the lessons and everything goes well. The app doesn't introduce anything new, it's just exactly a web version copy but even with a limitation: you can't watch videos in full screen mode. It's better to use a browser like Chrome in your phone and just simply add a shortcut to the course in your home screen

The app and the contents are great. I removed a star for these reasons: 1. The app is slow, I am not an expert but maybe the videos should be converted to a smaller size version. Also creating a cached local database for the user will increase the speed. 2. The navigation is not practical. I can not go back to a previous sub-lesson without going to the home screen then course selection then the main lesson. I suggest add the path in the title bar for a faster and practical navigation.

amazing resource. another trick that has worked for me to get the videos to play is to log into the website page on my phone (I am using chrome) and to go to the episode I want that way, then it automatically flips me into the app with working videos. but if I try to open the app directly, the videos don't work without downloading them from the other tools menu. hope that helps!

Great language learning app, but something went wrong recently, and now I cannot watch main lessons video - it just doesn't start. I also cannot download it, nothing happens when I click "Download". So basically this app is now useless. I am on stable home connection, and there is enough space on my tablet, so the problem is not on my side. I haven't found any way to send feedback from the app, too, so I hope someone sees it here.

Interesting app to boost your German language skills by basicly watching small video clips that goes in one story line and answering questions related to the videos. It covers A1 to B1 levels in all reading, grammar, speaking and hearing sections. All in all i highly recommend it Edit: the app is bugged... Videos are not running properly and it keeps returning to the same page each time i press 'start lesson'... it's sad that such a good app turns useless.

Great content and after an update a few weeks ago the videos and chapters started loading much faster. However many other things got broken. I can't see my progress unless I tilt my phone in landscape mode. The Einschoch6 course doesn't load at all. Subtitles don't load at all. Audio streams overlap, e.g. after I complete an exercise the text gets read out loud, I frequently skip this to go to the next exercise. Before the update I could stop it by starting another audio, now they just overlap.

Wonderful course! You can choose your level (A1, A2, etc.) and make quick progress in grammar, reading, listening, writing, vocabulary and (partially) speaking (great for learning the pronounciation if you train repeating the sentences out loud). And all for free and without ads!?! The best substitute or complement to German in-person lessons.

The content is quite good, but technical issue makes use of the app a frustrating experience (not ideal state of mind for learning retention). For example, a 2 min video takes about 30 min to get through as it plays 5 seconds, then hangs for a minute or so before playing the next 5 seconds. The scoring is also quite silly, as for example, not getting the expected string 100% correct (including punctuation) counts as an error.

The content is well done, good they took they music group so the lectures are realistic, fun and there is a great variety of topics. The lessons are not necessary in the correct order by difficulty, some lessons are not much happening and some like the bayerish have more new worlds and pronunciations. I wish they could have made list of words somewhere in the lesson so people don't need to write them down. Navigation could be better, but hey it's free language app with free good quality content

I have been using it since last January & it's all good. I used it a few years back when I first attempted it & there wasn't any problem like other said. Check if you're logged in esp after clearing history & save the page esp you leave half way. It does progress suddenly sometimes esp in the latter parts of A1, then I got lower marks. I have 1/6 to go & hope that I will make A1 this time, if I pass! All vocabularies & grammars can be reviewed again from the main menu which are very helpful.

excelent app with only one draw back. videos stop working after a while. this can be temporarily fixed by uninstaling and re-instaling the app. but this becomes tiresome after about the fifth time. otherwise, this is quite possibly the best free app for learning the german language. My only hope is that the creators will soon fix the video problem.

Amazing app! Entertaining and practical videos, good grammar exercises and useful vocabulary, all free and without ads! Thank you Deutsche Welle! Only one thing would be good to add: a progress bar on our profile page. I know I can see my results for each lesson, but it would be nice to see overall, stats-like progress on my profile.

It is excellent for learning, I wish I had started with this course long ago. The 3 stars are because there are problems not with the course but on the developer's side. First I couldn't log in for days. Now videos play on my phone but not on my tablet so I have to use two devices to go through the lessons. Please fix it urgently.

Overall a very good and quite well structured course. Certificate for A1 level was created correctly. However, certificate for A2 level is not displayed: permanent error message. Addressed the helpdesk, received a fast answer that indeed there is a bug, and they work on it. Two months passed - the bug is still there. Seriously guys?.. In short, a great course with non-existent IT support, which is a shame. Still 4 points for methodology, consistency and structure. Thank you (not to the IT guys)!

The app is absolutely great and good for learning this kind of language. I love it but I am facing the hardness in the issue of downloading the video when I want to download it. I've been trying it many times but it doesn't and even showing that it's on the process of downloading. So it'll be delighted if you fix this problem or maybe I myself go wrong on it ..! I need a help though

Great app for learning German. I love how they incorporated Nicos Weg into the app. It's really been helpful for supplementary learning after German A1 Course & before the exam. Developers, I'd just change one thing: During the lessons, input boxes don't force the keyboard into lowercase. Most phones by default are set to capitalise new sentences, and treats every input box as a new sentence. So for everyone word typed one has to change to lowercase first, which makes for a bad UX. Otherwise 5*

This is a really really good app which has helped me learn a great deal of German. It's heartbreaking that the video play function stopped working and, no matter how many times I log in/out or re-install the app it still does not work. In response to a previous review, DW said it is working again, but definitely not for me. Please help DW, as this app is so helpful and well designed.

The content of the app is great, it's one of the single best resources for learning German I've found. However I've been on the app for some weeks now, looked at it this morning and its wiped nearly all my progress- the only completed levels showing are the ones I did last year, nothing I've done recently.

Great idea with a few technical hiccups. There was a server malfunction since the end of last week until today. Also, it turns out that the progress display is language-dependent - i.e if you started training in english and then switched to german interface language - your initial progress will not be shown.

I was placed on B1 but decided to start on A2 and got through it (would be nice if I received completion cert after doing final test!). Now I am working through B1. Great app but suddenly videos wont play for me and the app is practically unusable! Please fix this issue as I would really like to continue! There is no option in app to leave the report (perhaps it should be considered also to be added)!
