It's OK. The poor user experience lets the app down, but it's not awful. You can actually do a lot with the app. Main gripes: If you don't press 'disconnect', it'll leave the bike connected Setting up Synchronized Shift is pretty much impossible for most users, until they figure out how it works (not intuitive). The app asks you to change passkey. You don't have to. If you do, and then update the wireless module, it'll (usually) break the bike. The workaround is to 'forget' the wireless module from the phone's bluetooth device list. You shouldn't have to, but for some reason that is where the old passkey is cached.. When it works, it's great. There are just too many chances for it to fail.
Can only adjust eco assist settings. When trying to adjust trail or boost the app disconnects from bike and bike reboots. Used to work when got bike 1yr ago. Tried galaxy s9 & s22. Tried reinstalling software no luck. One of the updates has caused this issue. Ive seen other reviews with exactly the same fault. This is the main feature i use so app is useless now. Can link with pc adaptor and works good. Come on shimano please fix.
I have used this for a few months now and had no issues connecting to my bike and changing things around very straightforward UI, missing a lot of features that other apps provide for Shimano motors
The app is great. You do have to create an account. The animation for gear selection is great. Needs better instructions on how to fine tune the RD and FD. It is not clear that the app will shift the gears for you etc... It is not clear that there isn't a low adjustment for the 8050 FD. I did not have an issue like some have had.
Interface looks much better than before and more intuitive. UNFORTUNATELY functionality took a dive. When I select the chainring and rear cassette, it throws me out of the app Each and every time. I can't change set the correct chainring and rear cassette or change semi-sync to anything and vice versa. Also, now the rear cassette options are lesser. Can't choose 12-25.
I use this with the d fly unit. No issues in terms of usability and functionality. The interface is not the most modern, but it works just fine. I even dare to update the firmware wirelessly, though this is an easy way to brick your di2 if the app messes up. But it has worked for me the two times I updated things.
After an hour of trying to connect to the shimano unit, I found that this (usually) works for me. Open the app, switch on the bike, turn on Bluetooth when the app prompts you, stand with my phone practically touching the bike, then it usually finds it. If it doesn't, I found that switching the bike on and off is the only way its ever gonna connect again.
Buggy SW, confusing UI. Connected with new app to reprogram synchro shift. Got hung after initial connect. As others wrote, bricked it. App couldn't connect, no response from bar end button. System in limbo, thinks its connected, and never times out or recovers. To recover, I removed the EW-WU111 and connected the PC-link SM-PCE1 with my laptop. I was able connect and reactivate the Di2. I put the EW-WU111 back in and reprogrammed the connect password. Afterwards, it all worked. There may be other ways to recover such as disconnecting the battery, but not sure. The App is still confusing. The fact that unless you disconnect from the phone the system remains in limbo and nothing works forever is unconscionable.
Impossible to connect with the new update, the bluetooth is visible only the 1st time after that the connection is not established. At the end no bt device is detected by application and need to reinstall it to see again the bt device for once.... I'm sure that this new version is not tested for old device !!!! At least allow us just to downgrade this application to older version which works very well; I'm disappointed about shimano who do not care for its costumers... waiting for solution. Rate is minimum 1 but I'd like te rate it 0 because nothing is working
This app appeared to brick my Di2, but I did eventually manage to finish the update and get it working again. Updating a wireless system, wirelessly, is not ideal. I don't understand why these Di2 wireless devices can't be updated via PC USB (BCR2 charger) when every other component can. The fix (for me, YMMV) was to kill the eTube app, kill Bluetooth on phone, 'forget' device, re-pair BT and re-enter the PIN, then restart eTube app. Shimano need to be more clear on the full proceedure for this.
So... I didn't follow the instructions. I connected through my Bluetooth app first, and could not get the bike to respond. Well duh, you have to go through the app itself. I also used the Windows program and its pretty slick. Got everything updated through that before I figured out I need to use the phone app to connect to Bluetooth. And I'm an IT professional 🤦♂️🤷♂️
Initial firmware update bricking the shifters was a bit of a let down by Shimano. Did they even test this at all? Reinstalling everything and using PC version fixed this but what s waste of time it was. And don't forget to disconnect Bluetooth connection from app itself or the shifters won't work. After you learn these few quirks it works but they can improve the app.
4/27/21 - Didn't skip update fast enough and now I cannot initialize searching for a bike. Shimano, please sort out your e-tube app issues. My experience with this app got worse after 7 months. 9/4/20 - Any improvement or upgrade is nullified by app instability. It continually crashes when trying to set my shifting preferences. Hold off on the update!
Simple fact is that this app doesn't work on Android and will brick your Di2 system if you try. Only works on iPhone, yet there isn't a mac computer app. Go figure.
Miss features. I have not had any problems with the app from those who comment but I miss some features. For example, being able to consult the battery level in detail or the total and partial distance. It would be nice to be able to connect while charging.
Connected first time to SCMT800 Di2 display and Samsung Galaxy Note8 (Android 9), so much clearer and convenient to use than PC e-Tube app, great to adjust set-up when actually out on a test ride. The animations are really helpful to get head around synchro-shift as well.
Tried to update firmware and it bricked my bike. Do not use to update firmware! Had to spend $350 for a hard ware device and cable to update using W10 PC app. It tries to download over 2.4 GHz BT. I even turned off my router's 2.4 radio and no luck. This app looks great for setting bike up over Bluetooth, but never hand a chance except for a quick look. I am an EE with over 30 years of experience designing, programming embedded devices and writing apps on PC clients to exercise them. SQA? NOT!
When it works the app is good but firmware update bricked my e6100 ebike - brand new. The screen would not come on. The app recognised a firmware problem with the wireless unit and tried to update but consistently failed. To solve this I turned all connections on my phone off except bluetooth and turn off any other Bluetooth devices in the house and place phone close...2 hours and 6 or 7 attempts at updating firmware. Eventually got it to sort out the wireless unit and I have a bike again.
Frustrating - the firmware update bricks the whole setup. I have read that the issue may be when setting a password during the initial installation. As of right now I have been unable to get past the issue so the bluetooth setup is useless.
I use it for my e8000. I have had two e8000 units and connects fine. Would be nice to know detailed battery condition and charge cycle and any error conditions for the motor.. as my first e8000 imploded and I had no idea what the fault was , shimano didn't tell the lbs what the errors were. Like a car if it throws a cell, a consumer should at least be able to understand what the fault stored is.
Actually I thought this was a good app. Took me a while to connect, however that was my fault as I didn't read on the first screen that the default key is 000000. Good to be able to change and save settings so you can upload them at a later date.
Good when it works. Good app that let's you customise your di2 levers and additional buttons. But every time I try to connect to the wifi unit on my bike i either have to uninstall the app and reinstall it, which is a pain. Or have to disconnect the battery from the WiFi unit on my bike, which is a pain as its fitted in the seat tube so have to remove the saddle and seat tube every time. Once the connection issues are resolved then it will be a really good app
This app gave very little information/feedback, and took way to long to connect to the bike. Basic stuff like a battery percentage is not shown anywhere. There is zero reason that the torque can only be adjust in units of 4NM or 5NM, and that assist levels do not share whatever percentage of my power they are helping me by. The Stunlocker app was way better for Android to EP8 RS motor, and even let me adjust my restricted Orbea Rise motor up to standard EP8 specs.
Absolutely useless. Difficult to connect bluetooth and when it does connect it's unreliable. I foumd a non-Shimano app called ST Unlocker that connects straight away, No messing about with pressing buttons, etc. A pity that Shimano can't do the same...
Awful. Its bricked my Di2 while failing during an update. I resurrected shifting but have lost synchro in spite of the app and bike telling me I have them. Oh, on top of that, windows is telling me "etube has stopped", uninstall, reinstall no effect. Thanks Shimano, that was £1200 badly spent.
after first time used on one bike can't connect anymore as the (+) just clicks and nothing happens, i can see little bulb on background for fraction of second and that's it, no help with reset nothing the app. Etube app was always useless and would stop working after one time use.
It's still has a few teething problems. Useful for updating firmware, make sure you have a fast internet connection and be ready to leave your phone by the bike for 20 minutes to an hour the first time if you want to update the motor firmware. Also good for changing the power settings, ie - Boost to High and Trail to Medium. First connection seems to always appear to fail, but then connect again and it works straight away. The next time you want to use it, you have to go into your bluetooth settings on the phone and "forget" the device and start from scratch, remembering your previous pin code you had to change. If you don't, it normally won't connect.
