For me, this is Joni's best. I have played this game literally for years on my phone, tablet and now pixelbook go with a different experience every time thanks to the variability of the options Sometimes I progress masterfully to an appaerent early win only to get too bold and suffer significant setbacks forcing me to dig in and grind it out. Other times I attempt an unconventional strategy with unpredictable results. That its still getting tweaks and updates after all this time is amazing.
Of the 25 or so games I have from the series this one has been the most fun. One of the key differences is that you have to manage the encircled Russan units. Once these units HPs are depleted they become supplies that can be captured. As commander you must choose between speedly moving east with all your forces or leaving units behind to capture the much needed supplies (winter clothes, mud gear, pontoons, etc). All in all great game, A+.
Really a great game, but I have a tiny problem while playing, and that is in every playthrough, I never have enough units to deal with the sheer number of Russian units. So the only change I want is just more german units. It's still a very good and challenging game.
Great like Joni's others, with much detail, developing context and varied challenge. The game starts out easy and then becomes much more difficult around the time it did historically, with new challenges developing as fatigue, the size of Russia, mud rain and snow set in, and Soviet reinforcements arrive. Reviews saying there is no ZOC overlook the fatigue effects of moving past unsuppressed enemy units, and the 1-2 MPs per unit. The review whining about airstrikes greatly exaggerates, and is incorrect that you can't protect your units - base own air units near them. Airstrikes are not overwhelming. Call For Support, railroads and field hospitals can let you manage losses.
Please add an option to remove hospitals and airfields ingame. There's hardly any space to build railways on because of these. I think it'll be a lot tidier if the airfields and hospitals would just be available/ built inside towns and cities.
This is hard-core hex board war gaming and it is fantastic, so many variables to take in to account for a game of this value,I whole heartedly recommend this to fans of hex board war gaming, enjoy this 5 star game I know I do!
Another fab game from this man. Massive scale and always varied. Can play overand over again.
This is about the best WW2 strategic level game for smartphones I have seen. Love the detail.
It is a pretty good game, and I recommend that anyone who gets this game to never make any contact with the developer. He is a bit of a d***
Pretty decent but would be nice if the russians had more troops and if "Normal" could be alittle harder
Good experience, slow and steady wins the day.
Excellent game, very playable, with a decent AI.
Best strategy game
Hours of fun, well designed game.
Was hoping for more control over reinforcements.
the Crimea seems to have gotten much harder...
Needs artillery
Got it as one if the first versions, the changes that were made since are incredible, very nice support from developer Update: half a decade later this game is still being actively developed, amazing support! The game is tough and good, made for Grognards :)
I decided to upgrade my rating and rewrite the review. The game is challenging and addictive. My only real complaint is that it drags on too long. The epic scale of the game makes me impatient when I have conquered Leningrad and Moscow and most of Russia and I still have to slog against a stiff resistance. By that point I just want the game to be over. But overall a good game and I recommend it.
On turn 12 your Panzers will take losses due to strafing that are impossible to protect against and hard to replace. The Russian side seems unrealistically strong. And gets stronger with every update. Wish I still had the old version. Not worth the money.
Only game I've ever purchased for myself, well worth price. Since it is such a large battle area there are many strategic options to explore. Excellent game support from Joni.
Unfortunately developer managed to stuffed up game completely. Waste of time.
Considering the constraints on developing wargames, particularly AI, for tablets, Eastern Front is a true masterpiece. I believe im qualified to say so having played PC Operational level classics for decades, that this is up there with OpArt and the Grigsby games. Eastern Front is a real battle, it ebbs and flows, a rare feature in such games, and you have to relocate entire fronts to stay in the fight. Rail transport and fuel is implemented better than any Eastern Front game I've played on ANY platform. You never truly feel you've won or lost till the end. A classic, the best of the series I've played so far and I look forward to playing many more.
This is I feel like the best series you have and this is the only game I will be buying from your series but the one thing I would love thats keeping me from putting 5 stars is the country selection why can't we play as Russia or other games we can play as the enemy I feel like its limiting the fun in this game and another thing is where is Sweden or Finland can you make land provinces but not part of game to make it feel realistic geographically speaking. I hope to see further updates with maybe the improvement of the Caucasus region but over all its simplified, until its a very nice little game I hope to see either a reconstruct of the game a bit with land or even perhaps another separate game of the eastern front even better than this one which I might consider
Only Joni N. could have done this. Fantastic. And remember: offline play AND you never pay after you buy the game. Entire "Conflict Series" is amazing!
It's very tactical a lot more compercated than world conquer 3 and games like that.
One of the few good mobile games. Much like the 1980s Atari classic of the same name in gameplay but with many more units and detail. With many levels to challenge any skill. I beat it, but I had to do it on easy, there is also a very easy and ultra easy. You really feel like a genuine field martial, with about the same degree of control. Not to much detail, but you also have to work with what you are given and you aren't messing with war appropriations and public relations like in some games.
