New problems highlighting text. Contact support and got a response but I didn't understand what they were asking me to do. I requested clarification a few weeks ago but still no response. Paid version. So. Nice app. Not great support. Would like to be able to choose which news source I get notifications from. I guess they gave up working on this feature.
I've only used it for a few days, and it's been great for getting a little practice reading in every day and learning new grammar. I even ended up buying the premium version! My only problem with the app is that it's sometimes very hard to select non-underlined words to find their dictionary meaning. If you're not exceedingly careful, you end up selecting the rest of the text on the page just by touching the highlighting controls ever so slightly.
A useful app for learning vocab. The text select doesn't work very well. It either selects one kanji conjugation, or the whole paragraph. You can copy text directly after it is selected which is handy if you use flashcards. Would love more variety of news and an update to the categories, which don't really match the news provided. I like the option to write a translation and for others to rank your translation.
I gave this app a fair chance four years ago, and I rated it 3 stars because you couldn't simply tap words to see a definition/translation. They promised that the feature was coming. After all this time, they still haven't added it. Additionally, trying to highlight individual words is impossible. The cursor bounces all over the place and highlights half the article every time I try. I'm honestly baffled by the high reviews.
The best way to learn a new language is by reading actual material. Just material being that it's contemporary news allows the reader to better understand a new language. You are able to interact with the various vocabulary and look at examples in order to better assimilate and understand a new language. Also you're able to use the flashcard feature to learn new vocabulary. I highly recommend this app. I wish it existed 20 years ago when I was learning Japanese and was an undergraduate student.
Disappointing. The free version worked better than the paid one. Since buying the app it has stopped playing Japanese audio. This worked fine on the free version. Edit: After an update all seems to be working fine again. I'm impressed with speed they are fixing things. Good job
Very great app with a lot of cool features. You can adjust a lot in the settings, like furigana per JLPT level. I wish they'd add filtered articles per JLPT level, though. It's really handy that there's full fledged JLPT practise tests, too. 4 stars because sometimes, you want to select text and it bugs, or a kanji isn't tappable, and the app looks a bit messy. Otherwise I 100% recommend this for any Japanese learner who wants to immerse in reading.
keeps asking to upgrade to premium every time we open the app which ironically, makes us want to do the exact opposite. its the user's choice if they want to upgrade...it shouldn't be forced on us. other than that, a beautifully constructed app. color coded words and easy dictionary lookup.
in general is a great app for studying japanese. but has some issues with the text selection, most of the time is impossible to select a custom area. also, in the past days everything is loading very slow. I try to use the app in some free moments between work, but the free time ends before any jlpt test loads.
The app is very useful for learning words that are used concerning current events. However, my main problem is the highlight feature does not work well most of the time. It is very frustrating trying to highlight a word that isn't underlined so I can look it up, only for everything after the word getting highlighted instead. I'll change this review to 5 stars once this gets fixed.
The concept is great, but due to what I assume is a bug, I'm unable to reliably select words. Trying to select anything results in random words later on down the article being selected. I'm not sure if this is normal or if it's a bug exclusive to my device (Samsung Galaxy Tablet S7). Either way, as someone who's quite new to the Japanese language and therefore has to look up words and phrases constantly while reading, this is easily enough to make the app more or less completely unusable.
Currently broken. Usually good for learning but the latest version has a bug where it closes the current view after several seconds. If it's an article, it goes back to the main page. If it's the main page, it closes!
I had felt frustrated about my ability to read news articles in Japanese and struggled with finding energy to look up kanji I didn't understand. Essentially, I felt handicapped. Today: Easy Japanese News helps me learn what I don't understand quicker. It feels good to finally read articles and learn from them.
I've been using the app for a week straight and I really like it. My japanese is N5 and I'm glad I can translate every word right there in the app and check my global understanding with the full translation. Using my japanese at this level is really useful because my level is not high enough to watch and understand a tvshow/anime and readying directly books or manga without furigana.
Really a fantastic app for forcing yourself to read more Japanese. It has varying degrees of difficulty so you are less likely to get stuck reading something you can't finish. If I had one complaint to make, I find that highlighting words is very buggy and it can be difficult to highlight specific sentences or words. Otherwise fantastic, highly recommended.
I love this app, short easy yet challenging articles that are actual news and keep you updated at the same time is great. However, I dropped my phone and picked it up and it's changed my font to some calligraphy style and it's really hard to read... If anyone knows how to change it back that would be appreciated.
Hi, I already reload the home page but it still unable to load the article list. It's been a few weeks like this while my Easy English version seems to be fine. My internet also works just fine with the other apps. Could you fix this issue or maybe I could do something with the app? Because none of the articles appear. Thank you.
Phenomenal app, I appreciate just how fundamentally you can analize a single sentence all the way down to the individual kanjis and see them used in other examples. Only issue I have is that it's super annoying to select words and believe me on this app you'll be doing that a lot. I tried it on my PC and it's still super awkward to select words and sentences. I've had a similar issue on other Japanese learning apps maybe in Japan your browsers and OS are coded differently?
The issue i have with this app is that the topics don't work.. It just links to articles from 2+ years ago. It would be much better if it allowed you to select a topic with recent entries. There's no way to actually search by inputting a topic either. I want to be able to read news that's relative, not random stuff about a panda baby. Because of that i can't rate it any higher. The app is very cluttered and full of features you don't need. I couldn't justify paying in this state
It is a good language learning experience. It is an excellent resouce for developing reading and listening skills in Japanese. Thank you for a great resource.
It's pretty good overall, but a little hard to get around as a person who just downloaded this app. But really, my only problem is that I'm not able to hear any audio from "aoi" while trying to learn words even when my phone's on unmute. So can you please tell me what is happening?
After last update I can not read any news. Few second after opening a new article, it freezes and restarts the app. I am hoping it will get fixed fast
please please please fix the text highlighting issue, i paid for the premium version of the app because i like it so much. but the text highlighting bug makes using this app so frustrating! please do something about it.
It's a usefull app for those who understand Japanese and simply need to expand their vocabulary, grammar, and such! Always happy to read a tiny article when I can.
This app offers a lot of features in it's free version! Not only can you read articles but also has flashcards, translations, audio etc
Loving this app having furigana and also a built-in dictionary when you just press on the words in the news articles. Definitely makes learning and reading much more easier!
Awesome app that not only keeps my up to date on Japanese news but is also great reading and comprehensive practice for Japanese learners. I love the JLPT prep lessons and the flashcards that come with each article.
Love the app, what is does, it does amazing, like really really well. However, this app would be absolutely incredible if it had the option to add our own RSS feeds or new sources. I don't necessarily want to read about "news news" everyday, but if we had the ability to add game news websites, blog feeds etc. This would be an absolute beast of an app. Again, I love what it does, but that one feature would just be amazing.
