This was a pretty great way to view the library of xkcd comics, but it has stopped functioning entirely. It crashes any time I try to load it. As much as I liked this app, I won't be using it even if it's fixed. It seems like just adding a web browser bookmark on the home screen is an easier and better way to browse.
Pretty nice app, it's probably the best way to view xkcd and What If? on your phone. Now I don't have to boot up the computer to read them anymore. This app lets you download all the comics and articles for your viewing anywhere. And, the developer is quick to respond to reviews if you have any problems with the app. This is totally worth your time. If you want to read xkcd and What If? on your phone, this is the best way.
great, polished app with loads of useful features and cool integrations with the subreddit, explain xkcd and the website. the definitive xkcd experience
I used to use the "xkcd Browser" app, but I had one problem too many with it. This one definitely has some improvements, and I'd recommend it to anyone coming over from that one. About the only thing that I miss is that there doesn't seem to be anything to show that a comic has an additional link, such as with #2276, but maybe I just haven't found it?
Have seen multiple comics so far where an image partially overlayed some text, making it difficult to impossible to read. Also, swiping between comics requires a very pronounced gesture & usually takes 3-4 tries, can't go back to where you were if accidentally tap random button, & double-tap to fav doesn't work. Would also prefer explain to be button instead of having to open menu & single tap to show image text. // Response to dev: b/c that is so much more intuitive than just pressing back?
As of the current version (8.0.4), the app works great!
This app is great. The only problem it has for me is the updating database part when opening the app. I would suggest downloading one or two comics while doing the rest in background while user uses the app. It annoys me due to my slow internet.
Exactly what it says on the tin, easy XKCD viewing with offline mode and dark theme. EDIT: It's viewed with a long press 😛 5-star given. However, I can't view the title text for most of them without the "Explain comic" button because the transcript and the option to view alt text isn't available. Please add a feature to view it, or maybe something like tap on the comic to reveal the title text (so user can read title text after reading the comic) and I'll rate it 5 stars.
A great reader that has every feature you might want. One annoying bug though: when switching between dark and light mode the app will go back to the latest comic. If you don't remember which number one you were at you're screwed.
Solid app with solid functionality, ExplainXKCD link is much appreciated. Experiencing a lot of app starts where it's just stuck caching and won't respond or fix itself.
Does exactly what it promises and does it well. Only minor problem is that special(animated, interactive, etc) comics usually can not displayed, but that is expected and you can go to the web version in 2 taps.
It's a great app, I'd just prefer if you made it easier for us to find the image inversion zoom technique. Also, this image flipping is something that I really like and don't want you to remove. xkcd 1172
It's mind-boggling how the rating of this app isn't a solid 5 stars. Though one thing could improve this app: an options menu entry to open the displayed comic in a browser app. Either that or the ability to play with the interactive comics inside the app.
Great application to archive and read XKCD. The dev is great too, helpful and responsive when I had an issue. He pushed out an update to address it and now the app works flawlessly. He even went out of his way to follow up and email me when he did fix it. 11/10 dev. Would donate again.
used to love it but now it's stuck on some really old comic. i still get notifications for new comics but clicking them takes me to the same range of comics from several months ago; not sure why. couldn't see a 'refresh' or 'go to latest comic' option anywhere either
Great app for viewing comics. However some symbols appear wrong in the alt text. Also, comics often go blank until the screen is tapped, and moving downloaded comics to SD card deletes them.
Crashes since Aug 6, 2019 update. Clearing cache, data or reinstalling doesn't fix it. This bug has been fixed very quickly, thanks to the dev for a quick reaction!
Good app which makes it easier to access XKCDs. Helpful features too. The only problem is that the share image option often does not respond.
Great app, and a bizarre window into the passage of time. I still find myself thinking of comics as "new" only to realize there have been a hundred ones made after it. Still a great app.
Excellent and simple way to view XKCD comics and alt text. Has the occasional issue with the special interactive ones, but nothing major.
Terrific app. Long press shows the alt text or you can have it displayed on the bottom of each cartoon. Simple, no ads.
Please make the shuffle button larger. Also in night mode, don't change the white color of the comics to black as subs comics are exclusively meant to be read in white.
This is a nice app for browsing XKCD on mobile. I really like the dark theme options (especially being able to invert the comic colors!).
Like the comic viewer, but often times the widget doesn't work, and sometimes the app won't show the latest comic.
Fantastic reader with ease of use features and almist ZERO ad presence. Ads make you money but I applaud the developer for not including them and if there are ads I never see them. Expect a donation from me soon, dear developer.
Super clean interface, lovely job, and the update fixed so many things! I refuse to use another app.
This is brilliant as, on mobile, the website is impractical. The interface is great and its constantly updated
Seems to be working reliably and is perfectly good for reading regular comics. It can't handle the special ones at all, though I'd at least like some indication since it's usually just a blank square. Small bug also, the Random Comic widget doesn't seem to work at all, it's just nothing. The Latest one works fine.
