0 out of 5 App is completely borked. It has become completely useless after the last update. Original review: This app is functional at times. That is when it actually opens. You need to force close the app, clear cache, and relaunch just to adjust the temperature most of the time. There is no web interface to the thermostat and some features are only available in the app, so you are stuck using this barely functional app. You can use the non-branded econet app, but it still has the same issues.
Always needs to be restarted. Not enough programmable schedule slots to accommodate peak, off-peak, and super-off-pesk power metering for Dominion Energy. Even though my system has variable fan speed capability and the app shows several fan speed levels, the only fan speed I get is high. I wish I had my Ecobee thermostat instead which even had a wireless remote sensor I could keep in the bedroom.
App is very limited, and WiFi is not very reliable. Sometimes I can't connect to my Thermostat. It would be very nice to see an indicator when the system is running, the app always says thermostat is running, and when the set temp and indoor temp are the same, there's no way to know if the system is running. It would also be nice to have access to the status screen to see static and other diagnostics from the app. Overall a little disappointed but I like Rheem/Rudd products so it gets a 3
Works great. I believe the initial setup could be a bit tough for the less technically inclined, perhaps an elderly person. The benefits it brings are pretty incredible. The app has worked flawlessly since I installed it, over 6 months now. The app is designed about as flawlessly as you'll find, as the layout makes the functions simple and the overall feel of the all app is smooth and responsive.
App does not have all functions available. I used to have another smart thermostat and it had tons of extra features available. This one is simple. Most of the time it won't even allow me to change the temperature. I go up one degree, the number goes grey and then returns to the temperature that was set before and turns orange again. Really miss my old nest thermostat. Really wish I could still use it with a two stage hvac 😔
Since the last update, I have a hard time communicating with my thermostat. The current temperature always shows a default setting that is not what the thermostat is actually reading. The sliding scale to move the temp up and down is a complete nightmare trying to adjust. Would be nice if I could revert back to the previous app. Anyone know how to do that?
Unfortunately, for such an advanced ac unit (communicating thermostat), the app is disappointing. I was actually talking to my technician and he said he won't switch to a communicating system because of the apps. The app is very unreliable and doesn't connect a majority of the time. I have opened a ticket with Ruud and they are supposed to be contacting me. I'm told there is a known issue with the app working on Samsung smart phones. Slider to change temp is also very hard to use.
Have to force stop the app. If you change temp and change again in a short period of time it won't let you change at all. It doesn't always refresh with the correct temp. I was connected and had information on our three zones. My wife pulled hers up and one of the zone readings was different. I went to the third floor and mine was correct. I set the temp at that zone via Alexa over 4 hours earlier. This is the worst app. Alexa works great app leaves much to be desired.
Overall an excellent interface. Would be beneficial to have the parameters displayed for the equipment, such as what stage the compressor is in and other troubleshooting data. I know it's only meant for technicians, but would be handy to have the info to give the techs when they get there all ready for them. Otherwise a very good app.
Ever since the new version was created it rarely says the house is the same temperature as the thermostat says. It is also hard to adjust the temperature to what you want since it was changed to the scroll bar, the old up and down arrows were so much better. Also it only accepts the adjustments about 1/2 of the time so I've always got to double check that it worked.
Very buggy!!! Locks up. Have to restart frequently. Change temps on phone only to have them change back. Disconnects from network frequently!!! Also acts as if system is not set up initially and have to add equipment for first time..... but you can usually get equipment back if you reboot several times rather than re-add!!! Nice to have convenience of changing temps without having to go to wall (when it works). Also nice to be able to control fan speed which does NOT appear possible (?) at wall.
Updating my review. They have updated the app to include time of use scheduling, which is a major benefit to reduce energy cost during peak time. One thing that remains baffling are the modes. There is no explanation of the modes in app but online revealed that energy saver uses the heating element. Although this provides faster heating it is less energy efficient compared to heat pump only mode. The app encourages you to switch to ES, which is very confusing to the avg consumer.
Multiple issues still exist with latest release: - displayed temps inconsistent within app - temps displayed in app don't match what is displayed on thermostats - can't adjust continuous fan by zone (i.e., turn off continuous fan on zone 1 [main] does not turn off all zones. - needs advanced display options similar to status screens on thermostats so user can see exactly whats going on with HVAC system - too many "connection lost" and "connected" messages. WI-Fi signal is strong & steady.
Update: can't even set temp anymore so it is completely useless now. Only half of the time do the controls work. Minimal control options compared to physical thermostat. Months later and it still doesn't connect half the time. Just set up a schedule and it was erased because the app wouldn't connect.
When it works it's good. I have to log out of the app and log back in to get things to work properly. If I don't, you can't make new changes after you've already made a change. Another improvement needed is we want to see all the options available on the actual thermostat when using the app. It would be nice to see things like fan speed and what mode it is in (low or high cooling and heating).
It works, but have some weird quirks that make it a little frustrating. When opening the app, it appears as if it crashes and restarts, every time. When setting a schedule, I have to quit the app and restart before it consistently shows up.
Just switched to the Ruud thermostat and app wishing I hadn't app hardly works. I have to uninstall it and reinstall it to even get close to being able to make a change most of the time I have to do it on the thermostat its self. Going to have to see the cost in putting my old thermostat back was told wires will need to be changed on the furnace. The app on my old thermostat never had these problems.
Been using it this app for about 7 days. Second time I have set it up. Set it up 3 weeks ago to a total failure to connect or remember my PW; reason for 4 stars. Online it was advised to use lower bandwidth WiFi. I tried again with a better internet and PW. Put this on the 2.5 ghz band by itself and it is working fine this last week. Using Android with Sprint and it works when I am away, at least 2x now. Fingers crossed.
Over Half of the functions do not work. Changing modes, changing setpoints, do not take. Pretty much useless, and unreliable.
It often freezes and does not allow me to slide the Thermostat to change the temperature. If I close the app and re open it that sometimes helps. Otherwise, I end up using the Thermostat manually. Whats the point in an app then? I've uninstalled and reinstalled too with no effect.
Terrible! Very rarely does any numbers on the app match the wall display. Five minutes ago I raised the set point one degree. The furnace still has not come on. I have to go to the thermostat to control any function. Frustration!
Terrible. Absolutely the worst thermostat control app I've ever used. If our HVAC installer hadn't forced us to use this app to control our A/C and heat, I'd delete it right now. Only works 50% of the time and not very intuitive.
After having used this app for a week now is is functioning properly. I have a better understanding how it works. I was confused on the setup, but I can now say I love being able to control the temperature in my house by just picking up my phone and adjusting. I haven't had any issues now that I figured out the functionality of the app.
Very minimalistic app. i can pretty much adjust the temperature and heat setting on my water heater, but if i want any other info i need to go directly to the panel. This app could be so much helpful to smart home users and basic users alike if they tried just a little harder.
First iteration like 2 years ago was better. Why the hell can I not change the setpoint from my phone now is beyond me. And I also liked the old one where could see if it was currently running or not...so dumb to take features away. I think you should be adding them in so I can see all the same menus as the tstat has on the wall!
It's okay, usually won't come up; sometimes missleading when it does. The follow schedule settings are too difficult to use et so useless. If I turn power off to do electrical work, it takes most of a day to get app running again. Don't use it often.
If anyone is shopping for a new unit and your app experience is important, note that there are nearly as many 1 star reviews as 5 star. This app has been plagued with the same problems for years. No response or updates from Ruud (Rheem). Most companies are improving their products over time. The lack of anything from these folks for years makes this very expensive system a huge risk. I would consider another choice of systems in hindsight.
I am using with app with RUUD heat pump water heater. The setup process was a little confusing, and the heater did not show until I force closed the app. Many times when I open the app, it shows limited status of the heater: * displays if the compressor or element is active, and it displays "hot water availability" * does not display current temperature setting and does not allow to change it. (I have contacted the developer for this issue a week ago, but haven't heard anything).
