EGG Genius

Decent app with good controls. Provides accurate information in an easy to see dashboard. Would be nice if it was a little more user friendly. Also, they need a way to notify users of pending updates PRIOR to using.

Absolutely terrible. After the last update I can neither connect to my device nor cook offline. That makes this expensive device practically useless for me. I will return it if the functionality is not restored.

Unable to connect to cloud option. Only way to get to work is setting option to local, then it works great!

Much better than the original release that I was using last season. Still having random connection issues, but nowhere near as bad as 2021.

For the most part, works really well. Not very fast on the input and support is none existing.

Worked last week...now I cant connect. I tried resetting the password, resetting the machine, reloading app. Using the online version.... nothing is working. Something is wrong. I've used this 10+ times without much issue with the device itself. But it's peripheral sensors are fragile. I've had to have them replaced after 4 uses. It's not very intuitive....so troubleshooting issues is tough. I just need it to work do I don't ruin my pork shoulder today!

Really great but missing one key feature, fan manual override. When opening and closing the lid the pit temp probe can jump down quite a bit. The dome temp gauge recovers quickly, but too often the fan kicks on and can over shoot the temp. When that happens then you get into a bad spot where it can be hard to recover from. Fixing that to add a manual override wuld be awesome, and then 5 * Another small annoyance that could boost usability would be to set the time line breaks

This is a useless app, which unfortunately makes using the egg genius a terrible experience. The app disconnects itself after about 5 minutes and typically takes me an hour or more to get it reconnected. I haven't been able to login with the cloud system and the "local" connection most of the time won't find my controller once it randomly disconnects itself. Love the actual egg genius, but can't use it at all since it is app dependent. Very frustrating for such an expensive meat thermometer!

First of all MAKE SURE you have the latest update (plug in geniis with no probes and it will auto update). That said, the app has gone through it's updates and bumps (read comments in the past). As it stands now? Amazing. 3 probes, temp monitoring and adjustment, auto notifications, auto "keep warm", history of all Cooke, works on all phones. What more could you want? The hardware is a whole separate issue, but the app is far better.

The user interface is terrible for the high price tag of the controller. The initial setup instructions are wrong. I had to Google and figure out how to port into the thing using its IP address, which would have been fine if they'd just put that in the instructions. App crashes a lot. You can't even use all the features unless you connect to it online. I'd love to talk to a developer about how to fix this UI. Just selecting your pit and meat temp is a pain. I wouldn't buy it if I were you.

Terrible experience. Bought it yesterday and was excited. Spent 1.5 hours trying to connect to it. I could find the device and try to connect, but before reaching step 3 to actually config the device wifi the app would minimize. When reopened it skipped the final step and simply said could not connect to server. Finally realized what was happening after I borrowed my wife's iphone and was able to complete step 3. DOES NOT work on my galaxy s9!!! Unfortunately I be returning.

Garbage. Phone is Samsung S9+. 5 hrs into the setup, sitting next the router in my office, still no further ahead. Used my son's iPhone, setup right away. Android won't connect. Stopped app, lost controller configuration. Everytime I shut down and restart the app it's a different issue. If I could give less than 1 star I would. I love my BGE, but this has really turned me off. For the crazy amount of money this cost, AWFUL.

EVERY time I try to use it, I have a connection problem to my wife. And it's NOT my wifi. My computer genius nephew set it up for me

At first I couldn't connect the app with the Genius, but a promptly answered call to their support fixed it immediately. I just finished my first cook with it and I must say that it was simply amazing! Temperature was kept perfectly where I wanted it, thermometers are very accurate, in short, well worth the money, highly recommended!

Don't buy an Egg Genius until they fix the app - the device is 99% unusable. 1) clunky local connection - no Bluetooth, have to connect via a device-broadcasted local wifi, I got it to connect 2 out of 10 attempts (haven't even cooked with it!) 2) extremely brittle UI - change a menu? Lose your connection. Exit the app? Lose your connection. 3) genuinely bad error messaging - connections will fail and you'll just see a blank prompt. If I stood at my BGE for the entire cook, maybe it works?

Was a good app until I really needed it. After the last update, connectivity would be spotty and it would default my set temp to 350 every time I reopened the app to check the cook. Today of all days the app is completely broken. Can't log in, and can't find my device which is connected to the wifi (solid green light).

I like it but when there was a new update, it caused a lot of issues and took me three hours to reconnect. Luckily, I managed to keep the temp where it needed to be during that time. When we first got it, it took a very long time to connect and nothing was wanting to work regardless what type of phone we used.

If you're having trouble staying connected to the wifi, it's probably user error. I was told that when I purchased the egg genius and experienced it. BUT, do not take it back to the store until you call the hotline and talk to Marcus. He will walk you through it very easily. Marcus was great. Maybe another review after I actually use it... Thanks Marcus.

Whatever they did, regarding the app, you login and the app crashes... immediately. I've uninstalled, reinstalled, restarted phone, to no avail. Continued to get alerts though?, but can't set any settings, nothing. Worked for about 5 cooks, now it's garbage, what a waste of money!

Worthless App that makes Big Green Egg temp controller non functional. Does not work in wifi mode and direct connect constantly drops out even if the phone is next to it. It also requires you to sign up for accounts you do not even need. All this app has done is destroy meat I was cooking and in 6 years manually controlling I have not had issues.

So aggravating. Tried to use this controller and ap and keeps connecting and disconnecting. Saw there was a firmwate upgrade so I moved it from my backyard location to a pkace next to my desktop and router. Followed the process for resetting the unit, got the slow blinking light as promissed. I followed steps which connected the unit to my phone network but the controller never connects. Light keeps flashing slowly and after about an hour says connection failure.

The update to this app is a huge improvement over the last version. I was able to log in first time and i dont have to re-log in every time app closed. Controller also stays connected better. Please continue to work on ease of use. It would also be helpful to be able to use google login to access my account instead of having to remember a separate password. This becoming what I expected when i purchased the egg fan.

After some initial set up issues and the more than occasional server disconnects I still like the EGG genius. I have used it for a variety of cooks over varying lengths of time. While it can be frustrating to temporarily lose connection, cooking a piece of meat for 12 hours does give some leeway on what's a problem and what is not. I will be doing a turkey and small butt for Thanksgiving next week. The Genius will allow me to go watch some football and have a drink with friends while not sweating over grill temp. Like I have said, not perfect, but great for the grill geek.

Horrible app! Cannot connect in local wifi mode. Comes up with "blank" wifi fragment. Only works in direct or cloud mode. This app has too many bugs and is released only because it is the only way to control the eggenius. Update! None of the alarms work in this so dont expect your phone to tell you when your food is at temp! Total failure. I got this as a gift but for 200+ dollars? This a Joke!!!!! Update update. App devs let me know a new version is released. Stay tuned for evaluation.

Interface is almost useless. App regularly loses connection and forgets controller. Never connects to Flame Boss servers. Nothing is intuitive or reliable. I so wish I could still return this "Genius" device.

Good idea. Poor execution. Waste of money. Difficult to keep connected. I am very tech savvy. Does not remember user name and passwords. $230 for poor software. Alarms don't work which is a big deal. I was so excited to use this and now I am just utterly disappointed 😞

After having this since the beginning when it first came out (I manage and EGG Dealer) it was great. Now all of a sudden, after an update, I cannot connect and cannot control temp. I tried to reset password to no avail. What a joke. Just wait and see if I recommend this for any customers. Good luck BIG GREEN EGG, I love the grill but this will not suffice!
