electronic Common Prayer, Version 2.0 (eCP) is a brand new Android version of the first, fully authorized, interactive version of the Book of Common Prayer 1979 of the Episcopal Church USA.
Created by Church Publishing, Inc. (http://www.churchpublishing.org), eCP for Android is built to run on devices that support Google Play

* Most commonly used services from the 1979 BCP, fully hyperlinked to lessons, Collects of the Day, and Psalms
* The complete Daily Office with readings and Psalms for each day in both Years 1 and 2
* An interactive Calendar with complete access to Years A, B, & C of the RCL for Sundays and Holy Days, the Daily Office and Lesser Feasts and Fasts lectionary texts in the NRSV
* Feast pages include title and color in addition to presenting multiple feasts in order of precedence
* Fully searchable content and Indexes for Psalms, Canticles, Collects, Prefaces, and Prayers & Thanksgivings. Search for text within title or content

eCP requires NO INTERNET connection, as all texts are stored locally on your device, allowing you access to these texts no matter where you go.

eCP is perfect for personal devotion with the Daily Office and the variety of prayers from the Book of Common Prayer. Quick access to all of the lectionary texts is ideal for clergy or liturgy planners, or for pastoral care such as Ministration to the Sick or Reconciliation of a Penitent when on the road.

Planned updates include the addition of material from the Book of Occasional Services and Enriching Our Worship, Liturgical rites for same sex blessings, and other liturgical resources as approved for use by the General Convention. More than just an app, eCP is a framework for delivering content to our customers.

Whether lay or ordained, eCP offers the content of the Book of Common Prayer in a way that supports your devotion in a perfect mobile format for a busy world.

I feel sorry for anyone trying to pray or put together a service using this app. The navigation bar lacks a menu button (but has a dedicated share by email button, as well as the usual android share button!). The menu bar navigation is also less than intuitive (e.g. the android back button exits the app, the previous/next buttons are based on the previous screen's menu) I appreciate the calendar with all of the lessons/collects linked, but that's not enough to justify the steep subscription fee.

I've had the app through a few iterations now, and latest upgrade is great. Subscription model makes sense, since readings for each calendar date change from year to year. Navigation does take some practice: use the "back arrow" in the app (top left), not the phone's "back" button. (I'm an Android user)

This app used to be usable but clunky, but it now is literally useless. It now says that as of March 31 you have to subscribe, but you can't get past that splash screen even now (early March, been this way for a week). It also gives me no confidence that the new version will be any good. There's a very nice app called Venite that runs circles around this for many purposes. You should probably download that instead. Church Publishing should probably ditch this and invest in that instead.

This app takes a little getting used to but functions fine. I loved the connection to the lectionary readings and previously paid some time $10 for the app and thought it was worth it. But now it's a prescription. I found another app that feels like the BCP book while accessing the lectionary for free, BCP online. So don't need this one anymore.

Subscription required. The 1979 BCP's version of the Lord's Prayer in Compline ends with "....but deliver us from evil." This app has 2 links to the traditional & contemporary Lord's Prayer, both of which continue with their version of "For thine is the kingdom...." That's not how Compline reads. If this is remedied I will revise my rating, but since this error is carried over from the previous version of the program, for which I also paid, I'm not optimistic. It's good; it should be better.

I paid for the original app. Now it's a subscription model that adds up to the original amount and it STILL just a WebApp. This shows minimal effort on the side of Church Publishing on improving this experience, at least for Android users. I wish I could say I am impressed.

spent a lot on this app to go subscription based with what looks like no worthwhile changes. not happy to find out they changed. its one thing to stop supporting / updating. its another to purposely block people.

As another reviewer said, I paid for this app years ago and it worked just fine, now I open it to find a prompt saying that I have to pay them a monthly fee?! I think not! Either fix it or refund us our money. For those wanting an online BCP in the mean time I've been using St. Bede's mobile breviary website.

Horrible and lamentable decision to add a subscription to a paid app the renders the paid app useless without a subscription. It says the change happens in March, but is already no longer usable. For shame.

Paid for this app a while back. Worked all right, nothing stellar but usable for the most part. I hadn't used it in a while but decided to open it up. Turns out I need a subscription to use something I already paid for. Any way I can either use it since it was already paid for, or can I get my money back?

Love this app. I am an Episcopal priest and it is indispensable when I am traveling and for service preparation. I do hope it is updated soon to include the readings after March 31st.

Pol. C. Apr 3, 2020

The most recent update has broken the readings for me. The app is registering "today" as Friday April 1st 2017, and my content for readings only goes up to March 21 2020

Easy access to lessons and lectionary. Very dependable.

I use it every day! Multiple times a day and suggest it to all.

The church's prayer book app should not require a paid subscription.

This app is worth every penny and more. Thanks and God bless

As of 3/31/2020, it started giving me the wrong readings for morning prayer.

Good app - does a lot of tricky things well.

Not updated past 3/31/20

I finally was able to get my purchase back and the developers quickly answered my questions. this app is great especially when I use it in Church. I do wish it had a better interface especially for Daily Prayer other wise it is an awesome app. Update this app keeps getting better the links are more intuitive and easier to use during Sunday services. They really have improved the interface.

It beggars belief that this is being put behind a subscription paywall; it should be free for all as a core ministry of our Church!

Dal. V. W. May 8, 2021

Not all the BCP services are included. For the Daily Office, the readings and Psalms are handy. However, so many saints are not included! Only a tiny fraction of commemorations are available. Very disappointing. Sad! Update: this was a paid app. I spent $10+ for this app now they are charging a subscription fee. Why would I want to subscribe to something that wasn't that good to begin with and for something I've already paid for?

eCP works smoothly for worship; whether individual daily office or Sunday worship. All readings are quickly available. Back and forth between readings and office or worship is quick and creates no lag from rhythm of service. Psalms are especially well done, because you see just a smartphone page then scroll for the rest. No flipping BCP pages between psalms that are separated. A joy to use.

This is a good app. Not as good or as elegant as its CoE counterparts, but it's serviceable. Edit, 5/30/18: From Advent through the Day of Pentecost you can use search to find last/next year's reading for Evening Prayer. But that doesn't work in the Season after Pentecost.

Now that I can again link to (and return from) lections, Psalms, and Canticles, I have restored my previous rating. Thanks for a wonderful implementation!

A a fantastic resource, and a responsive team behind it! Highly recommended!

The app used to allow you to move from the office to the lessons or psalm or collect and back to the office but a recent update seems to have eliminated that. Now you have to reopen the office everytime. Other than being difficult to work with the content of the app is very good.

It's easy to find anything you want in the BCP, but the bookmarking doesn't appear to work, and if you hit the back button, you don't go back to where you were back to the original menu. You have to start all over again. I will certainly keep this app,but I'm hoping for improvement in the navigation system.

I'm impressed. It includes dates from October 2014 until November 2017. It has a search function, but it doesn't search by date (I wish it did). In about three weeks I'll not be able to imagine living without it.
