Started off well. The summary screenshot are s little confusing, showing the original names instead of the renamed zones.
Not a bad app at all, but would love to be able to boost via Google Home, hopefully that feature gets delivered sometime soon.
EPH are an excellent organisation to deal with and I couldn't recommend them more highly. The EMBER smart Thermostat System is brilliant and their technical support staff are extremely customer focused and helpful.
Ive been using this for over a year now and it's just not good enough, especially with gas prices as high as they are. App interface is clunky and changes often don't save. Control unit is old fashioned for a smart thermostat too. As much as I like to support an Irish company, I wish I'd got a hive or nest one and would consider changing.
It's OK when it works. But I am fed up of CONSTANTLY having to force stop and restart the app. I keep checking for updates in the hopes it will fix the bug, but nothing! It seems like they're ignoring everyone's issues; they really don't seem to care. It wouldn't surprise me if they were days away from going bust tbh. In my last property I had Hive. I can 100% say that it is WELL worth the small amount extra to go for Hive instead.
Apart from a few reservations around reseting the receiver to make it a hub receiver (I was worried that it would lose connection with thermostat. This could be clearer in instructions that it won't). Everything paired and connected to WIFI first time. Programming was simple to do. Everything now up and running as it should be. Will now wait and see how efficient and reliable it is.
The app is fairly handy for setting the heating schedule, although I would still like more than 3 timings possible and the ability to set temperatures for different times of the day. The main negative side of the app is the boost button. I'm having issues with boosting the heating from the app, it takes quite awhile for the command to process and quite often I find myself going to the thermostat to boost instead.
What a confused mess of an app. This is the least intuitive app I have had the misfortune of using. Every click brings up a stupid orange tick followed by the word successful, irritating beyond belief. I am only able to schedule 3 timers a day, for some reason. It doesn't work with Google home. The whole system is like something from 10 years ago
Update 16/1/21 - not working yet again. Have to reset the hub at least once per week. No point in having smart controls if I have to be in the house to reset it. No better than a basic time clock. Needs an on/off time zone setting. Has 6 times but each needs another time set to a lower temp to switch off, so it's really only three on/off times. Seems a pretty basic thing to lack. It does work, but quicker connections and a proper on/off schedule would make it alot more useful.
Consistently shuts down and says 'zone not connected' the minimal troubleshooting info provided in the app is pretty useless and rarely works to fix the issue. App is pretty pointless as it can't be relied on. I have sent messages on Facebook Re this, very polite responses but no actual help. UPDATE Terry got in touch & went through the same troubleshooting steps as previously, moving the gateway etc and it didn't work. He sent a new control panel by courier and everything works perfectly now
Prefered the interaction with the previous revision app. The front page was more informative. Now If you do not have a RF device, thermostat etc paired, the front page just has 2 -- showing the heat is on when they have colour, off when no colour. Also unless you have a RF device paired you cannot copy over timers to different days. You could with the old version why was this changed ?.I don't use or need a stat with hot water but this has reduced the functionality of the app for my purposes.
Up and down. It's the most temperamental app ever. Works fine for a while but then can throw up errors such as "socket error" and "rf connection failure between the programmer and the gateway" click on help and there's little or no troubleshooting. I'd be a bit tech savvy but this is the most complicated thing I've ever used.
Elegant and effective. Really easy to set up and program. Real time temperature display. Can be controlled from the App, the central controller or the thermostats which have both a diall to adjust the settings and their own boost button. Hopefully they will introduce a digital TRV at some point, would love to be able to turn off rarely used rooms from the App. Connected fine to my Sky broadband system running both 2.4 and 5ghz.
Why auto populate the ssid field only? Let the user enter in whatever details they want for the wifi because if there's an issue with the app ("you are connected to mobile data" is the only message I get) then there is no way around this. Tried it on 2 phones one with android 8 and one with 9, both connected to the same wifi and both with mobile data off. And what's with the permissions? Need access to contacts, gps and external storage of phone? Invalid gateway id when trying to connect. Great
Terrible app. If you're reading this before buying one of their thermostats, just don't. The app crashes constantly. I have to force close and restart every single time I want to control my heating. Regularly logs me out too. It's one of very few thermostats that doesn't work with Google home. I'm gutted I was persuaded to buy this when I could have had Nest or Hive for a small amount more. I'll be getting rid of this asap.
Not a bad app - it's a bit slow to update but least you don't need to be home to turn on the hot water or heating system. the service in Ireland is great also, if you have any issues with any products they will talk you through troubleshooting it and if it can't be resolved they will send you a new item.
Excellent app. Clearly laid out, UI is not cluttered or too 'busy', intuitive and very reliable. I've heen een using it for a while and I haven't encountered any problems. I assume there will be ongoing development tweaks - suggest 0.5 degree temperature increments and one touch 'Advance' option on zones.
Since new app was changed in Oct 2019 I've had nothing but trouble with it. Before that it was brilliant. V frustrating. If I use app it tells me I'm not connected to WiFi. What is the difference between auto and advance since new app. The old app was 5 stars I have excellent WiFi and the Green light is on my gateway. Its time your technicians fixed the app. Frustrating 😤. Happy to report that its all working perfectly again so thanks Ember ☺
App not working and won't connect to hub. App updated in January and randomly has disconnected from the hub. Have tried many times to reconnect both and it won't work. They won't pair and its very annoying considering we paid for smart controls. There must be a bug or its a lousy update causing this, needs to be sorted asap.
I am disappointed with upgrade. Post upgrade, 1. We receive multiple "socket errors", even more than before. 2. We now cannot save changes to time schedule. 3. We still need to return from lower zone level back up to the root, then go back down to zone to have the measured temp and mode display updated. 4. The time schedule is still limited to only 3 slots per day, - Why so few ? 5. A different temp setpoint per time slot would be great. 6. An option to trend temp and run status would be nice.
I got a new switch and had difficulty matching the app to the switch. I phoned the number given on the app and spoke on 2 occasions with 2 very friendly, helpful men, Terry and Greg who gave clear, concise instructions on how to solve the problem. Thank you gentlemen.
This is a fairly straightforward App, where you can adjust Temp & timing of your heating zones. Theres a helpful boost function & the ability to use this anywhere is great. I would have liked if it were IFTTT compatible, where it would integrate into the smart home space, like Amazon Alexa or Google home.
Tne App states there is an important update released Jan 2022. This update isn't available on the playstore. The App itself is fine once setup correctly. One tip is to leave the web receiver halfway from the router and the boiler to optimize usage.
9.01.21 update. Well app responds bit better? No, still rubbish, refresh button now is home button on top of your screen ( or what ever you name your zone) and still nothing, very bad interface with gateway! But still I would like if you add temperature setting to schedule. 100% don't recommend, stay away, in my opinion problem in wireless interface ( gateway) and ember not interested in improving the app, do not buy!
Since the Mar update to the app...I keep needing to log out and back in on Android. Once I log back it tye app is responsive for a few hrs but then I need to re login. Unresponsive, means that I can't set boost or chnage from on to off to auto on any zone.
