Emby for Android TV

I love the interface, but all of my content is stored in .iso files, which don't seem to have stable playback support. DVD .iso files sometimes play, but can be choppy, and Blu-Ray .iso files won't play all. Is there any chance of this working properly in a future release. I'd hate to have to convert my entire video collection to .mkv due to the time involved. Currently I use Kodi for playback from my Emby server, and that works fine.

Dreadful. Keeps pinging back to the top left when trying to scroll through content, so you try to search instead and it inflicts voice search on you which when you cancel brings up a text box covering the whole screen.

When I am scrolling on my phone it won't let me scroll continuously. It jumps back to the first collection of movies on my screen. Is there a reason why ? Woops. Nevermind. Lol I was using this one on my phone. I installed the Emby for android just now. Works great. Lol 😆 #woops

For the most part everything works fine, but when I have multiple versions of recorded TV shows and movies, it will only play the original video file. For example, I use Mcebuddy to remove commercials, but I want to keep the original files in case MceBuddy cuts too much out. I select the other video file, but it refuses to play it and only plays the original. This does not happen on the regular Emby app, only on the Android TV version. Very strange and I hope it gets fixed soon.

It is great. It works well and is simple to use for all video related options. It offers a home screen fast lane to speed up navigation but only for the home screen. Most libraries navigate vertically which also speeds up browsing of media a whole lot just not for collections. Media information on lower resolution "bedroom size" screens cuts of items but not bad. I really enjoy using it on a daily basis.

Nice app, works very well and fluid on Android TV, I will like to support the app, but the videos in portrait mode (I have a lot from my smartphone) are played in the wrong orientation, and try to correct the visualization on each one with the button, not always fix it, besides doing it in each one them. Are you working on fix this issue? thanks The videos were recorded with my smartphone, stored on server, hosting with Emby server, and watched on my TV with Android TV (Sony brand)

Playing seems to work better recently. One area in need of improvement, video it doesn't tell me if it's the 4K or the 1080p. The LG version of my buddy's TV does this so I feel it's time this should too. Also, just recently realized that when I played certain videos, seems to be TV shows, whenever I tried to fast forward it automatically start over. Doesn't do it on my phone, however, only my Chromecast with Google TV.

If I'm not mistaken this is a very new release? Or was it the Server for the nVidia Shield TV? First off the Pros: Emby does what Plex doesn't! What is it exactly that Plex can't do? I hear you ask. Multichannel Audio *.dff/.dsd, and .flac Files for a start. Now the Cons. I find the GUI a bit underwhelming, for something that costs 5€'s to make a use of. Worse then this is the fact that the Folder Level Search / Browsing Layer, only shows more Files, and no easily discernable "Folders". pls fix.

This is a great app. I think that there must be some confusion here. Remember that the Shield Emby app is a client. There needs to be an Emby server app somewhere on the network. I am running the server on my iMac. I run it over wi-fi and Emby runs anything I throw it. Makes Kodi seem archaic.

Can somebody at Emby explain to me why after two years I get an I have to unlock the app message for a one time fee. Not crazy about that but I paid it. Now I am trying to continue to use the Emby for Android TV app and playback is broken and I am in a stupid loop with the app recognizing I've paid but STILL NOT letting me continue to use to playback my content. This was a great app up until now but it's trash at this point. FIX IT!!!!

have it installed on 2 Nvidia Shields on 2 different home networks. The server is on a third home network. Both lose connection to server all the time requiring server info to be re-entered. Most of the time it requires clearing data on the app, then re-entering the server info. It will work for an hour or a few days, but eventually the procedure will have to be repeated. Android phones on the same networks always work flawlessly, connecting without problem right next to a Shield getting 'cannot connect to server.' Response to support: Yes we have tried using static IP addresses. Still the same problem. As I said these Nvidia Shields are all on separate home Internet connections in different houses, so DLNA does not mattter. The response from support is the same as always. "sounds like a network problem" It is NOT a network problem ALL OTHER CLIENTS WORK FLAWLESSLY ON THE SAME NETWORKS. It is a problem with the Emby client for Android TV. This client should be DIFFERENT from a standard Android client. My review stands until Emby fixes the Android TV client.

I'm unable to filter by video resolution (720P, 1080P, 2160P). There is no filter for that for the Android TV box app. The filter is available for the web browser app though. So disappointing. Please fix this and allow the filter on the Android TV box.

No dts passthrough on sony tvs since sony firmware does not report its capacity properly to the app. please let users override what app thinks is supported because it can be wrong and hides the passthrough option completely from the user from even selecting. Also please improve subtitles style on both android and android tv. They work but are def. look poor.

At the beginning, the loading of the libraries is ridicolously slow. The chromecast from android app and from the ipad app does not work at all: the application does not connect properly to the chromecast or to the home theatre. I bought all the apps for android, android tv and ipad, but I think the tool is not ready yet. The subscription plan for the premiere version is too expensive for a home user.

Not worth the purchase anymore. You have to purchase subscription to use advanced features like live tv and many other features. I would say to just use jellyfin which is completely free but has its own set of problems.

Cannot get past login screen. I enter my credentials (which works on browser or regular Emby android app), but then I just get black screen. Unusable on my Beelink GT King. Samsung Tizen TV (H series)is terrible. Happy to troubleshoot, but considering Plex as the app works without issue on Android box and Samsung TV.

As a long-time Plex server/app user who has recently switched to Emby, their software works great. I made the switch once they supported hardware accelerated HDR color mapping since many of my clients are not UHD, and need conversion. Emby puts MY MEDIA first unlike Plex, which shoves their online content in your face every chance they get, all the while ignoring issues from paying users. Recently, Emby wasn't showing movie/TV trailers on my Nvidia Shield TV 2019 model. I googled it, found a thread where someone posted the issue, where the Emby devs saw it, responded and fixed it promptly and it's now working. I'm running the server on Unraid in a docker with clients running on everything from web browsers, android and ios phones, and android/ios based dedicated streaming clients, and it just works. Bravo!!!

I was using Emby on my Android tv for about 3 years, no trial period. Recently, the tv was repaired and factory reset. I had to install Emby again from Google Play and suddenly I have to pay? I can’t understand what’s going on. I paid for the app on the iPhone plus have Emby server running. I never had to pay for Android TV functionality - I'm not an idiot and know the difference between Android / GooglePlay and Iphone / App store!!! I have purchased the App and don't see why I need to buy it again.

After you take the time to set this up properly you won't find a better media front/backend, this is an all in one solution. I tell it where my media is stored and it downloads cover art, trailers, and descriptions in a beautiful display. If that is what you are looking for then this is the app for you, the administrators answer questions on their forum quickly and will make you realize your mistake, in many years (since media browser days) my problems have never been their fault.

Awful app I've paid for the unlock on android TV its still the same as free version then paid for the premiere on the pc version and can not transfer to my android version. Utter waste of my money 😡 i bought a premier license and it did transfer over so I cancelled monthly recurring payments 5 days later which I still had month of premier and still never transferred over to my TV!

Far better than its competitions. Emby server and client setup is easy. Love the interface and they come out with updates multiple times a year. Keep up the great work team emby!

Claims to be an open source application, downloaded and installed the server, at no point does it say it requires a subscription to unlock features. I set up a live TV source, says I need to restart the server. After the restart, it "updated" and now says nothing will work without a subscription, and the 1 feature that I was looking for is disabled. That is NOT in keeping with the open source products I've used in the past, and I will not be investing any more effort to work with this.

Purchased the unlock and try to watch a movie on my Nvidia shield and it tells me that I need to unlock. I click unlock and it gives me an error stating that I already own this and will not unlock to allow me to watch a movie. Tried to get a refund but there is no refund option. I just lost my money for something that does not work with no way to get it back. What a waste!

Going to push out a narrative to you guys. If you don't push out a fix to get rid of that message.. Lots of people will use the cracked version of your app that's been circling around. Just saying.

Very dissapointed. Gave up all attempts to configure it - the TV app auto shuts down when trying to manually add the server IP, "Connect" option didn't work at all. Back to plex and kodi.

Cannot get it to show up on apps list after downloaded. It is only a website for forums, etc, no way to stream my emby shows. Try to then download emby connect and it becomes extremely complicated and confusing. Apparently you cannot access your videos on this app.

Stupid nag message to upgrade to premiere after a recent update. Just let me purchase the app for a one off cost or get lost. I'm not paying a subscription to playback my own bloody media in my own house.

I downloaded the emby server to view my videos on my fire stick and didn't work I tried 100 times and nothing, after I created the account and add the videos, I downloaded the app in the firestick and it didn't want to login using the same user and password of the account created, I don't know what is going on. Help please.
