I downloaded the app because I'm really struggling to make ends meet at the moment and thought it would help me budget but I realised that all the features I need are locked behind a paywall, really basic things like setting my own budget categories. It also could not link to my PayPal Credit account so I tried to enter the debt manually and yep, you guessed it, that's locked behind premium as well. For someone who's trying to save money 9.99 a month for basic features is a big no.
Having used Emma for a couple of years now, and found it very useful, I'm too am disappointed by the 3.0 redesign. Can we have a dedicated Accounts button back at the bottom please? It would also be much more useful if the Spending bar of 'This Month' (or 'This Period') also showed a different coloured section for committed spending, like the Budgeting graph. I shouldn't be having to do the sums myself to find out my total current spending amount. I hope my and other's feedback is taken onboard.
Great app for managing multiple accounts and budgets. Definitely helped during COVID and now to see where my spending goes. I like how you can drill down into the data and edit completely to your own lifestyle (fully personalised). I also really like the "subscriptions" section too. It would be great in subscriptions to filter depending on the time (monthly, yearly, 2 weekly etc) and a dashboard to show the total spent on subscriptions ☺️
I've been using Emma for 2 years and it's been life changing, but the new upgrade leaves me cold. The openness of the front screen with no borders, tiny graphs, makes it messy. My eyes don't know where to look first. But most importantly I can't get a snapshot of what I've spent on a particular tag. You used to be able to see how much you'd spent over a month, year, or ever on a tag. A great tool for an ongoing project like house renno. But now, you just get a list with no breakdown or total.
I used this app for years and loved it, it was so helpful in tracking incoming and outgoing transactions. I upgraded to the pro version as I liked it so much. I usually like an update on the app but the new update on Emma has caused it to be cluttered, confusing and so much harder to use. Genuinely considering cancelling my subscription.
Previously left a glowing review of Emma, but the new design...what were they thinking? It really is a confused mess. It hurts my eyes to look at. Everything bleeds together, there's no distinction. It's not just visual, either. It's far less usable. Won't be renewing my Pro subscription this year.
Great app let down by very restrictive features. The idea of requiring a pro version to simply create a custom label/expense category or even worse... Simply splitting a transaction is really aggregious.. Especially since the pro version is quite expensive. 10 quid a month for this is not adequate. As for the answer by Emma team... It does not really answer the core of my question. I am not asking it to be free. just that the paid version is too expensive and in an effort to me people to a paid app you have basicaly made the free app all but useless.
What a terrible redesign. Goes from having clear different tabs which you could understand and find things in easily, to 3 tabs, 2 of which are unhelpful (pay and upgrade the app) and then everything else is shoved into an overflowing vertical feed with unintuitive icons and graphs. A shame as a redesign wasn't what the app needed as it worked well before and was modern already.
Update - the last update has provided so much info on the dashboard it has ruined the app. All I want to do is track my spending and see how much of my budget is spent/remaining. Can I roll back to the previous version please? (This seems to be the only way to provide feedback) ------ Great app. Works perfectly. Some nice features likes excluding transaction helps and the notifications are great too.
The new 3.0 version is more complicated and doesn't seem to have everything in one place anymore. I liked being able to see my spend and remaining budget together per catatgory which doesn't seem to be possible anymore. Looks like they are focusing more on payments than budgeting.
Chose this app over several others based on usability and features, but the latest upgrade has removed the one analytic I find most useful, namely the configurable "balance over time" line graph. It will now only show a bar chart for a single pay period which doesn't tell me about wider trends in my spending. Looking into other apps to find one that does have this feature.
I used to find this app really useful. It used to show me an unbiased view on how I spent my money. This was great. I could have all the details of my bank accounts in one place and see graphs of how I was spending money and what I could do to improve my spending habits. In recent updates, it has become increasingly apparent that the Emma app is now no longer about how I spend my money, it is now designed to guide me to spend my money with their preferred services. This is not what I wanted.
Edit: The new 'Emma 3.0' removes the one function of Emma that I use daily, which is to show me my real-time balance on current accounts and credit cards. A while ago, they added payments, but I've never used this as I was happy with my bank account's payment system. Plus, I never worked out if the payee needed Emma too. It looks like the app has changed a lot since I first used it in 2020, and they seem to be headed in a different direction from what I need in a money management app.
Not a fan of the new update, it somehow seems complicated where as before everything had its place and wasn't so busy. I'm also sure accounts and savings were separate which amounted to the net worth, it's now all one big sum which is isn't very helpful.
Just got the app for a 7 day trial and I'm loving it so far. If there was a monthly subscription instead of annually, then I would get the best one. A very informative and very we presented app. Cudos for the designers A++++
I've been using this app for a while now and it's really helped me to track spending, clear debts and finally to start saving some money. The new upgrade is not great and it's not as easy to navigate anymore. A shame, since I didn't think a change was needed.
Have been a paid up Emma Pro user for nearly two years. The new update has left the app unusable and the feedback response has not been great. I can't recommend it anymore. Fingers cross it gets fixed/updated soon.
It's far too expensive for what it is. Yes it's probably better than most if not all of the other personal finance apps out there, but it's also almost £100 for the 1 year pro version (the less expensive package being even more limited such that a free app can do almost everything it offers). It's not that I wouldn't pay the fee if the app was good enough, but it would have to be streaks ahead of the competition and so full of features it makes me go wow, it's simply not. Hence 2 stars.
Awful app don't trust them with you data! They aren't GDPR compliant and support is non existent even on the pro/plus plans which is even worse given you're paying for the product. I wouldn't trust the app with any of my data - uninstall and avoid! Support transferred me three different times and never got a reply.
Been using this for a few weeks. The UX leaves a lot to be desired for me. Confusing in a lot of ways, annoying carousels trying to "fix" (more like sell) something irrelevant to me, and being pinged quizzes randomly. Renaming recurring payments doesn't change them in future analytics either, pretty annoying in my opinion. Not sure this will be something I use in the long run to be honest.
RIP Emma. Completely broken now. I tried clearing the cache, restarting my phone and reinstalling but nothing. Indefinite load screen while logging in. So disappointed... I was really relying on this app. Please fix!
Would be more helpful if pending transactions had an impact on your budget. You often end up in a situation where the money spent doesn't come out of your budget till 24-72 hrs later On the whole the app is good and really simple to see how and where you are spending money and make informed decisions over your spending.
It was a good app until any bank with duo authorizarion became a problem! And it was much easier to use before the update. Not impressed with the app as of late.
Really easy to use and provides a brilliant suite of tools to get on to of where your money is going. I've been waiting for this since they retired Microsoft Money
They claim no features have been removed but where are the line graphs? Where are the tag snapshots? Lies! The latest update ruined a decent app. I hope the company strategists just realise that and role it back. So glad I didn't spring for the paid version before they nerfed it. And don't be another of those companies deleting negative reviews. You removed my last one and I'm reporting you for that now.
Brilliant! I can see all I'm spending, including my subscriptions. It all give me advice on which banks don't charge you a monthly fee. Fun, well laid out and easy to use
This replaced yolt for me. I really liked yolt and it was the only one I was using. However, when they close I couldn't find anything else better than Emma. You can manage multiple bank accounts and see from every transactions. My issue with it is that to have more categories and more insight you need to subscribe and pay for some fees which you didn't need to do with yolt.
This app was great at first, but the level of greed has got to it, I've been a pro user since they came out because with the pro subscription you able to add your own on the "category" section. Now their price has gone up and that feature is disable because the "pro subscription" is now " Emma Plus" and want you to pay more to have it on the Pro subscription.
It's a great and worthwhile app to have even if you don't budget and just want a central place to track your normal/saving accounts and investments.
I have the free version. So far, i am loving it, although I find that it sometimes will bug a lot when sorting transactions out (for example, changing categories will often bring out the "server error" message). Otherwise, 5*. Hoping this gets fixed soon!
