This app has the widest available variety of poets and poems of any of the other poetry apps I've tried and the ads aren't too intrusive. The one issue I have with it is that the search bar is only able to pull up author's names, you can't search using a poem's title. And, on a superficial note, the interface is not very aesthetically pleasing. That probably doesn't matter to most people but I think the presentation of a poem can really affect the way I perceive it.
So, I liked the app initially. And I decided to upgrade to the ad-free version. But since then, I noticed some shortcomings in this app. Firstly, the search function is broken. When I try to search for authors, it should me just a list of poems, that too not of the poet I was searching for. I had to scroll the list of poets to find the one I'm looking for. Secondly, the dictionary is just useless. It just states the word itself for most queries. Please fix it. It's a great app, don't ruin it!
It is an awesome app. The background, the style, the lay-out makes it more lit! Classic! But how I wish that they will add a search engine so that I can easily find the pieces that I desire to read. Cause everytime I open the app, it would take a lot of time searching again the last poem that I read. It just automatically goes back.
Stay with me. This is a beautiful application, basic features are pretty good and for such application, features should be basic too. So completely makes sense. What I don't like about this is it doesn't have a personal account feature. Change your phone and bookmarks are gone. Just that one feature and 5 STARS. I will even share it with my friends. But that feature is quintessential, man. Do something about it.
Very comprehensive content and well worth paying to remove the ads! Three suggestions: add a search facility so one can locate a poem by a remembered phrase; and allows the user to adjust the size and type of text. Personally I would prefer Times new Roman or some other serif text. And an alphabetical list of authors by surname please.
The breadth is incredible. But the ads are really, really annoying. Wouldn't mind a few but they are ridiculous. I have decided to rate after 30min of use because I have had about 10 demands to rate. That's ridiculous. I haven't had time to evaluate it of course!!!!!!!! Have been using this app for 48hrs about now. Came back in pique at after bein asked for ratings again. From 2 to 1. Reason is simple. Adverts. Requests to rate. They spoil what should be a great experience.
I have supported a few other apps via in-app purchase or subscription, but certainly not this one. The intrusive ads that interrupt user interaction are not only annoying, they are DISGUSTING. The app is basically coercing users to pay for it. Unfortunately I am not going to do that, and instead, I am uninstalling it right now. ... Not to mention the terrible UI bug that shows lists stacked on each other
HUGE VOLUME! 👍 Bookmarking ESSENTIAL for returning! Top right corner message icon, etc., FAST, CONVENIENT!😆 Night reading mode nice. Needs SPEED enhancement (=less wasted time navigating)! Poet's FULL name at the top of his individual selection (to remember who you are reading without having to go back one click to poets alphabetical list) would be a great improvement! Also, QUICKER poets list SCROLLING (by alphabetical section for each letter, e.g., like in chunks) would be very helpful!
Since I love poetry, reading and writing it, I truly enjoy this app. Living in a third world country, I do not have easy access to bookstores for the complete works of anyone. The rainforest weather is not friendly to paper books! There is poor internet connection and no TV, so how comforting to read and meditate. I would appreciate including background on each author. Perhaps a photo?
Simple app with lots of content to browse. The only ads I see are the banners below and the rating requests for the app store. You can save some poems in your bookmarks and there's a preset daily poem every day. No freemium feature, which is cool, but I'd like it even more if you could have recommended content, personalised search and poems in languages other than English. Otherwise, it's a great app for freesource content.
My favourite app. Such a beautiful and robust collection of poetry at hand and no data needed. App works very well and fast. Only thing is when you read a poem and select "back" to go to the vast author list it doesn't remember where you left off so you have to scroll through again. No biggie.
G'day! I am Andrew from Melbourne. I've been using this ‘Poems’ app for last 5 years. It was a wonderful experience for me. I've noticed some poems never been in the list of poems found in other apps. Also there's no sign-in option, back-up option available in it. It's a great disappointment for me. Hope you'll look into the problem and try to solve it.
Please update definition library, i have paid for that still have to use external dictionary for most of words. Else app is working fine as expected. Thanks
My intent in downloading this app was to read more poetry. But life gets busy and my intentions fell short quickly. Then I started getting a poem a day. And I can find 5 minutes to read it. I've enjoyed the variety of authors. Some I've never heard of and others I would like to read more of. This app is helping me stick with a 2020 resolution. Yea!
I love this app! I love its simplicity. I just wish there were a feature where you could search a word or phrase and it would pull up poems containing the word(s) or phrase you searched. Sometimes you remember a poem but not the author. Otherwise, great app! I've enjoyed it.
The app is good..The design gives the vintage vibe too..but residing from a non-speaking english country it's hard to know the meaning of some words.. If the meaning appeared by touching the specific word, it'll be lot easier for people whose 1st language isnot english..please consider the matter..It will be very much helpful
The interface shown in play store is misleading. The actual font is duller and the background is just faint yellow instead of the burnt paper look shown in the images. It would be more tempting to read if you could make the interface appealing.
it's a worthy thing, i guess; the app works fine; but formatting is so important in poetry, and it doesn't look right here, where the designers have been forced to make the font readable at the expense of the poems' layouts. Font itself doesn't feel right either; very utilitarian.
Very useful app for literature fiends. Of course the ads annoy by making you click a small x on the pop-up. One helpful feature might be to reduce the amount of times pop ups show. This would be a 5 star app if not for constant interruption.
I like the app very much for its inclusion of classical poems. But the works of Sylvia Plath, and many others is not present, which is kind of off putting. One more thing I would like to suggest: the search function needs to be improved. Instead of only authors, it should also search for poem titles, also words in them. This way the searching for a poem will be veryvery easy.
With all of the negative news we're bombarded with daily, it's Really nice to have some beauty, some art, some sense of connection. Receiving these poems daily provides me with an opportunity to experience this things when I need it. It's been a really nice app to have.
I prefer a Times New Roman font. Sometimes the poet's typography is not maintained. Very sad because typography is important part of word art. Use a smaller better font and black on white. Check poetryfoundation for excellent presentation of poems and flawlessness in terms layout and no typos.
Maybe it's a different title but I loved 'The Daffodils' or maybe it was 'Daffodils'. Not only was I not able to find the title and I'm able to understand that headspace funds a lot it's really irritating when it throws up a commercial every now and then.
Excellent selection of poems from some of the best writers. Only thing is too many annoying ads but it is free version after all! Overall well worth downloading. Always enjoy the poem of the day.
It has my favorites. What can I possibly add? Very comprehensive collection with easy reader access. It's going to contribute to a very enjoyable retirement and will definitely help improve the quality of my own work.
I have it's premium version and the app is really good containing all poets, but I really wish them to update their dictionary. I feel it's very limited and have meanings of general and used words. Thanks :)
