English Russian Dictionary
- declensions for nouns and adjectives and conjugations for verbs,
- accents appearing in green (fixed) or red (variable),
- frequency of appearance in Russian texts,
- translation in English (most of the time),
- sentences in Russian and English as examples (most of the time),
- related words
Navigation is similar to browsing the web, with clickable items highlighted in blue. Display is simple and clear, and usually optimized for each type of screen. It is also possible to search directly for a word, either in cyrillic or latin with respect to the virtual keyboard setting. In this case, a list of matching propositions is displayed while typing, based on most frequent words.
It is lightweight (<5Mo) and does not require any data connection once installed, making it a perfect tools for roaming users.
Information in this dictionary are structured through various lists:
- alphabetic lists: 29 list from А to Я,
- frequency lists: most common words first with 4 lists (all, words, adjectives and verbs)
- categories: 20 categories and 170 sub-categories for the 6000 most common words. Categories are a very arbitrary classification (mine!) for the sake of learning. Each category is a list of no more than 100 words.
- user defined lists: you can create your own bookmarks, and the active list will receive new words when you click the gray star next to the current word. See in the menu the items "create/select/delete list"
- automatic lists: these are lists generated by navigation of the previous days, or by pure random generation (different each day)
All the lists (user defined, built-in or automatic) can be combined into patterns to define dynamic lists. A pattern contains 1 or more lists, and for each list the maximum rank of items considered and the number pf words randomly chosen. That way, each time the pattern is used in a quiz, it generates a new list. See in the menu the items "create/delete/quiz pattern".
This application is based on a work by the web site OpenRussian (http://www.openrussian.org) that has compiled and made available the Russian/English dictionary.

Had to swap to another phone and I couldn't find this app for the longest time. I tried at least 10 other dictionary apps and they all left me wishing I could find this one again. The way the information is displayed is efficient and accurate. The search function works with both languages without changing a setting, and works on predictive text. 5/5 a very good dictionary. Glad to have found it again.
What a lovely dictionary app! Clean clear layout, no frivolous clutter, no ads! Extremely nice. If I have one complaint, it would be the text size: too small. Increasing it to 125% is almost enough, though one more increase to 150% would be perfect, but the text size only seems to get bigger on the main screen, not in the word lists or definition page, both of which remain in smaller text than the main screen. Despite this, still a 5 star dictionary app! Thank you very much.
I'm just starting to learn Russian, and this is perfect because it shows the stress in every word. And wow, all the declensions, too! I was really surprised to see that most Russian dictionary apps actually don't show the stress, which is ridiculous. Also this app is very bare-bones; it just gives you what you need without being too flashy or slow.
love it! It even has example phrases. The only part that could be improved, and maybe this is just on my phone, is that the keyboard disappears when I clear the search bar. which is a kind of annoying when looking up multiple words. It's still much better than the other dictionaries that I've used. Thank you!!
Good app which I use frequently, but I'd like to see: 1) Home button instead of cumbersome backing up 2) Scrollable list box directly under search box, big enough to show 10 most recent items, scrollable to show 100 most recent, reverse order of recency, items selected from list go to top of list same as if sesrched. Existing recently browsed lists are cumbersome. Every other dictionary puts recently browsed right at the top. 3) Add Desprez to the app name so people can find it easier on Google.
Very good! The only annoying part is that the keyboard closes when all letters are cleared from the search bar. In addition the search speed after typing or deleting a letter could be improved, or the search could be done asynchronously so that typing or deleting isn't slowed down.
Great app actually. It doesn't use much memory, and it has the conjugation/cases tables and sentence example for most words. But it needs a HUGE improvement on the UI and design
Great app, lightweight, easy to use and it has all the features one needs to learn Russian. No complaints 5/5. Oh btw the verb ночевать is not conjugated but instead the infinitive is being shown for every personal pronoun. Not sure if this mistake is already existing in the raw dictionary data you took from openrussian or if it happened during the development of your app. Anyways best app out there for Russian learners. Information is well planned in the lay out for a dictionary. It has good and practical details without the irritating and distracting esoterica often presented in such comprehensive dictionaries as this. I have been using this app for the past week and the only slight problem has been that I cannot find any way to hear the words vocalised.EDIT. Thank you for your reply M. Desprez. So now I know why there is no acoustic accompaniment. Also, I know from your words why you left this valuable item out. (Too much storage involved) I know very little about computer technology being very much of an ice age vintage and too old to comprehend this. But I did give you a superb 4 /5 star rating which is more than I ever do for anyone else.....I very rarely bother to write a review at all. So I am puzzled by what seemed to be a reply from you that was a bit on the offense/ defence ? Really, why. I simply was curious about my own device and wondered if my dinosaural computer technique needed tweaking. ;)
wow great, very clean design and unlike 99% of the 'dictionary apps' out there this is one I'd actually use, it resembles the website Wiktionary which is fantastic. *though it's an odd verb it couldn't find жалуется -had to go to elsewhere for that (could you copy paste the Wiktionary ru database?)
Best dictionary I've found, lots of useful information for each word. The declensions included have helped me a lot in my studies. The only thing I would add is to have the search bar always available.
I can confirm the SwiftKey bug. Steps: Click search box, keyboard pops up. Type one letter, keyboard disappears. Click search box again and search. I also get a warning that this app was built for an older version of Android.
Best English-Russian dictionary. Search in English or Russian, shows declensions, gives example of usage. Simple, small, no ads, free. What more can we ask? Thanks!
Essential tool for Russian language learning! There are a few inconveniences in terms of functionality, but the information and organization is far better than any other rus-eng dictionary!

Maybe the best thin resource Eng-Rus free dictionary app there is. Could use some fine tuning of the user interface.

I can feel a lot of work has been put into the content, but the user interface seems like an afterthought. I had a toast saying "left" repeatedly, scrolling was sluggish and confusing, the menu was unreadable with very low contrast of the font over it's background.. it would need some love and could become a great tool, but as it is now I'll just keep searching for a dictionary.
