This game panders to a specific audience...hence the wildly varying reviews. It's exactly what I expected, plus some obligatory bugs. 4/5 based on hitting the target but providing poor/nonexistent docs.

Loading this game on a Note 4 is ridiculous. High resolution screens don't scale well, so everything is incredibly tiny and simply walking causes screen drawing lag. I'd rather pay $5 for an app that works well instead of $0 for an app that is so close to being what I wanted.

I enjoyed my first hour or so of playing it, then suddenly I would die, which wasn't that bad, but I would start all the way at the beginning, and have to make my way through the weak monsters, which it felt like every other step a Monster appeared, delaying me by telling me a monster was approaching, only then to say it was running away. Waste of time trying to level, and if you didn't follow the exact path, suddenly super strong monsters would appear and kill you in one or two hits, and you couldn't run.

Everyone here is a bunch of idiots. FIRST OF ALL IF U CAN'T DEAL WITH SAVING AT an inn ur a dumbasss. there wasnt even a save option until like the 90s second of all HOW THE HELL DON'T U KNOW UR DIRECTIONS (NORTH SOUTH EAST WEST) if you go the wrong way and die it's your fault. Third of all there's a way to avoid weaker monsters(You buy it in the farther towns). Fourth of all YOU NEED TO EXPIRIMENT WITH YOUR MAGIC. The light cast is fighting magic It HELPS OUT IF UR A NOOB. Btw I'm lvl 11

I enjoyed the challenge of this game. It can be very unforgiving especially in regards to the sleep spell. I finished the game and my only complaint is that I want more. The world is a bit empty and the game would benefit from more narrative. Also a sailing ship or horse for faster world travel would be nice.

I love the idea that this is done in the style of Dragon Warrior... Unfortunately the controls are rough and unforgiving. The sprites are a lot smaller than expected. Add the fact that you have to go to the inn to save... I played for a few minutes and just got too frustrated.

only being able to save at an inn was mostly all we had in the 80's and 90's...and we were GLAD to get a save point! I only gave four stars because I'd like to see more content, but I cannot complain because the fame is free, and it's nostalgic as F**K!

Awesome Dragon Warrior clone, back when I was (this is just a guess) 7-10 I loved Dragon Warrior, the game turned me on to RPG's, so its no surprise that I'd love this game as well. To anyone that loves early Nintendo RPG's or any young kids that'd like to find out what it was like in the stone age of video games, give this RPG a spin, well worth your time!! Love this game guys, you did an amazing job!!

Brings back fond memories of DW! Love this game. Only problem I'm having is that it won't let me in-app purchase more Phoenix Downs or Gold. Constantly gives me error code that I have no network connection. Will give 5⭐ if/when this situation gets resolved.

Developers are going for an old school DW 1/2 kind of atmosphere. But that does not mean you need to keep every last aesthetic from those relics. Those games were classic but also products of their time. Some of the aspects of those games that are painfully dated. For instance, if I want to buy 25 herbs, I have to buy them 1 by 1. Seriously? Please keep that practice in the 80s where it belongs and just let me buy in bulk with only a few clicks needed. Autobattle is also missing but needed. Returning the player to the first castle is another unnecessary quirk of the 80s classic rpgs that absolutely does not need to be done anymore. I can deal with losing half of the gold you currently have, especially since there is a total of about 5 phoenix downs which can prevent against that. But otherwise, take me back to the last inn! On the flipside, return at least remedies this issue a little, to be fair but comes 1/2 way through the game. Also, instead of including a link to a map just include an in game map, even if it is basic, it is 2017 after all. Even w/ all those you will still maintain the feel of the game while being modern in other important ways. Rec. lvl for final boss =24.

Uninstalled. Gave it a second chance. Now at level 42 with 136,006 EXP. Will I eventually be able to finish the boss in one hit? Time will tell... Another point, there is a save glitch. If you talk to any shop keeper in any town (or a few other instances, spoilers withheld), you will save for free.

I don't get a choice, even if it asks to use Phoenix feathers. It asked, I chose "no" & it took my feather & half my gold? Why offer a choice if it takes them anyway & punishes you for saying no? It has no warning when your torch is running out, & it uses them consecutively & you have no idea how many you'll even need or using, cause you have no idea how big any dungeon is. There is a lot of fun to be had, but a lot of flaws too, the towns don't flow directionally very well to other points on the map.

Seriously atrocious UI. Character moves like a pregnant yack that's lame, hobbled, and ill. Further, the on-screen controls are tiny (phone) and the touch senses off, variously. Just setting the volumes was a pain, and moving around the map was annoying.

If I could rate this game zero stars I would. What a waste of time. They reset me to lv 1 with no items when I spent $5 on 20k gold. I figured well, what a nice Dragon Warrior rip off, they deserve $5 for entertaining me. My reward for donating...getting reset to lv 1. I want a refund! Don't play this game! Game is also full of bugs such as going negative in gold, when buying items it sometimes keeps buying the same item and you are forced to shutdown the app in your phone options and restart.

Just a great nostalgia trip with the same gameplay elements as Dragon Warrior for the NES, but you can carry a large amount of items and there is less grinding. Sometimes it can freeze, don't input commands too fast.

... that is executed poorly. Plagued by graphical lag and cheap game mechanics. Uses phoenix downs even when you choose not to. And the other guy's complaint about buying phoenix downs and losing both his progress and the downs doesn't sound promising, either.

You cannot save but while sleeping in an inn. Takes forever to build up money to get new equipment. Isn't any kind of map to know if you are going in the correct direction. could have been great but was a major disappointment. Also, it's a money pit.

First of all, this is a great game that fulfills any retro rpg fans needs. However, if I read the words THEE, THY, OR THOU again I'm going to scream. Terrible writing on the authors part lmao. Also, the action button shouldn't bring up a menu, it should automatically do what action your obviously trying to do. If you're standing by someone the action button should automatically start conversations, treasure chests should open, etc. I don't need to have an option to talk to a treasure chest...DUUUR.

Don't buy downs or it will screw u back to lvl 1. And I bought gold. Very unhappy since I like this kind of game. If it gets fixed will change my rating

Read title.

Mor. S. Mar 14, 2014

It's ok at first but then after a while not so much like I have to go to an inn jest to save.

Wes. C. Oct 17, 2016

Everything is so tiny, and the movement is very slow and laggy. I want to like this because I love Dragon Quest, but it's unplayable for me like this.

Rob. R. Feb 5, 2017

Game is ok for what it was but that sleep deal is unbearable. Way to make someone want to buy your money because they lose theirs when they get close to 2k. Bye bye.

cra. m. Aug 26, 2014

Hands down the best Android game I've played. Only thing I'd change is the length, it needs to be longer, hopefully there will be an expansion coming soon.

I have been searching for free non stopping turn based RPGs, and this game, is just what I've been looking for. However, Add a compass for easy navigation's, and easier fights for five stars. Keep it up!
