Epsilon Notes: Markdown Writer

This is a very convenient and simple text processor / editor for advanced and basic note-taking or text-writing, which supports CommonMark tags for formatting your texts and generating HTML code from your documents in text format (UTF-8). CommonMark is a very easy text formatting tool, which takes only a few minutes to learn.
The text processor allows

* Reading and saving text files. (Swipe from the right edge of the screen to its center in order to open the text file browser.)

! By the way, one of the major advatages of this app is that only you control where to store your notes. This will considerably facilitate note management, sorting by folders, backup etc.

* You can change the file browser width (Long-press the FOLDER MENU button at the bottom of the drawer or click the folder button in the top menu twice).

* Three modes
- reading, writing and html viewing. (In the default reading mode, you can read text. In the typing mode, you can type and format text using CommonMark tags. To switch to the edit mode
- press the button with a pen in the menu bar or on the round floating button).

* You can move the floating button to any place of the screen by long-pressing and dragging it.

* If you long-press a file name, you will see additional functions, like "rename", "delete"

* The symbols frequently used in Markdown are available on the scrolling bar above the on-screen keyboard.
* CommonMark functions:

* Italic, bold, strikethrough, underline, highlight, superscript
* Links and pictures
* Tables and quote-blocks
* Headings
* Soft-breaks and new-paragraphs
* Numbered and bulleted lists.
* Use of html tags directly in the text, for example to change the text color.

* and others! (See http://commonmark.org)

If you know Markdown tags, then CommonMark will be just as easy for you, because CommonMark was developed as an alternative to Markdown, by expanding it and eliminating ambiguities of the latter.

Wow. This should be EDITOR'S CHOICE. Fantastic. So many features. Really comprehensive environment to get writing done. To name just one: Live view (split screen) of formatted text is fabulous. Can export in various formats. Menu options galore, Help files... Cannot rave enough! None of the other markdown apps come close. Full version cannot be recommended too highly. PERIOD.

Holy sheep, this is the only legendary markdown text editor that you'll ever need. Quite complicated, but is super cool once you get the hang of it. Though I'd like it if there's an option to save to cloud and publish the entire notebook folder as link for free.

While read a long markdown (2000+ lines), this app is difficult to scroll down. The app is too easy to restart itself to top of file. This is a problem. The other aspect is that there is not much description on what is included in premium, and whether the premium has solved this problem. Otherwise this app is perfect and arguably the best for smaller markdown viewer.

I tried a lot of different markdown apps in the past, but I've settled now with Epsilon. It might not be the prettiest or most intuitive, but flexibility and portability proved far more important to me. And that's where EN shines. I sync my notes with desktop using Syncthing and EN allows me to keep my nested folder structure. The developer is also listening to his user base and his updates always add something useful, without breaking your familiar workflow. So thank you Eugene! Job well done!

Having finally decided to move my notes to markdown format (from OneNote to Zim to DokuWiki, finally to markdown), this is the perfect Android application for editing and viewing them on the go. It just works and has plenty of options to configure should you wish (eg I've set text to be left aligned instead of justified as this made some notes look bad). For Windows users, I'd recommend Markdown Monster.

Feels a bit clunky to use. The UI does not feel intuitive. The text editing gives you the symbols for markup so, if you're familiar with it, then you're fine. Some of the nicer features are locked behind a paywall so, didn't test on it much.

I am going to put in my vote for Editor's Choice App as well. I'm unsure of what the actual steps are, if any, to make it happen. But, anyway, I can't speak for the creator of the app, but personally, I don't think anyone can find a better, more powerful and comprehensive Markdown/GFM/Commonmark editor, plus an HTML+CSS+JS editor with todo, music, and mathjax capabilities anywhere in the 2.5+ million apps of the Google Play Store. Period. Oh, and an awesome genius of a creator, Eugene Kartoyev

Loved the app on the first day itself, however felt some of the features are not that well documented. It was only by some trial and error and reading others comment in here, that there are themes and they can be changed through yaml. If there was a way to enable autosave when checking/unchecking checkbox items that would be great since that felt bit annoying as it popped outs so frequently

My most favourite writing tool EVER. Markdown, wiki-style page creation and links, hotkeys for so many different situations. Combine with an external keyboard (I use membrane keyboard + usb-c adapter) and you'll fall in love. Free version seemed kinda limited, so I'd mostly consider it a premium app. But honestly, worth the $ and the developer has done a great work in creating an app that fulfils every writers needs.

This is to Markor what VSCode is to Sublime. Infinitely more powerful, but speed-wise leaves something to be desired, e.g. would it be possible to make scrolling in edit mode smoother? Coming from Markor this is the one thing that I truly miss, and I keep switching back since their editing experience is so much more pleasant. As this is designed for writing notes in (rather than making quick edits), I was surprised to find editing mode so laggy (even with forced light mode on and tiny files).

The best note app I have found. Unfortunately, ABC Notation is too wide for smartphone screen. It would be very interesting to have a way to synchronize the notes to a GitHub repository.

Would be nice to have more style options - arbitrary backgroud color, font color, fint - or a prettier default. Single line breaks don't show in preview mode in accordance with the Markdown specs. Other editors don't always work this way, and a single line break is enough to place something in the next line in preview mode. It would be nice to have an option to have it work either way.

I have payed for the premium version. This is really a good markdown editor. I only wish you could double click to edit the file instead of pressing the "edit" button.

Ive been playing with this for a while, and I am very pleased with its capabilities. Create a home page with several linked pages and images, like a mini website. Organise your thoughts and ideas on seperate pages and create an index with links. Export the MD files to HTM and put it on your Web server. Piece of cake. But must of all, I like the full customisability of Epsilon as a note taking application. It takes a while to learn, bu when you work out how to use it it is a real joy.

Most advanced mobile text editor I've ever used This program allows me to edit large markdown files. I use VIM On my desktop and epsilon notes on my phone. I think my notes directory with syncthing. With epsilon notes I can easily access symbols for markup languages. It also intelligently understands whitespace formatting. This app does one thing and it does it well. I highly recommend it for anyone who takes notes in markdown.

Thanks for this app, the customizable keyboard is brilliant (swipe on toolbar number is A+), the compatibility processor allows me to use old vimwiki files here. The keyboard is so extensible that this is the only text editor that i use that doesn't have vim keybinds. Docs are wrong: You CAN use Dropbox, you must keep the files you need offline. You must manually upload new files you make or Dropbox won't sync. I recommend turning off auto file create or making files on DB first. I :fa-heart: ε!

Wonderful app. Much is configurable. The RegEx make it easier to cross-working on notes with Pandoc on my desktop. It can even run my JS. The only drawback is its slow rendering and frequent script error message. Fix it and l'd use this app forever.

Brilliant. Probably the best markdown editor on Google Play. The only issue I found is a problem with long or complicated mermaid notation records. It returns script error. Let me know if you need technical details for this problem.

This app has everything I'd want and then some. Basically a powerful offline wiki note taker in your pocket... that is also somewhat easy to learn and has documentation if you ever get lost or would like to explore it more!

My quest to find a good Text Editor with first-class support for Markdown ends with Epsilon Notes. Simple yet powerful and easy to use are the keys why I love this app. I maintain my notes (zettelkasten and also use P.A.R.A method) using Visual Studio Code on laptop and having Epsilon Notes on the Android is really a balance. Of course there are some features that I wish: opening multiple files as tabs, templates/snippets.

Hi Everything is really awesome and this is the one editor I need :) thank you 👍 But I have an issue when I try to open files with Tasker. Epsilon opens list of files but not the file itself. I tried to check "use old uri" but it didn't work

Developer is responsive to addressing our usability bugs in the EN G+ page , and fixed a serious performance issue. It runs well, even on low-end 2013 hardware. Well done!

BEST markdown editor. I'm an expert coder & tried ALL MD editors on Android. My feedback implemented in many. Suggestion: i) the top-right icon in editor mode needs to cycle through THREE Modes: 1) Edit Only 2) Dual Screen (editor+preview) which it currently does. PLUS 3) PREVIEW ONLY. Suggestion ii) The same icon (cycling through THREE Modes) should be in top-right of PREVIEW MODE TOO. Try it, you'll love it. Because it's the only logical feature missing. It will take this from 5* to 6*

I found that CommonMark Zoom with value 160 resolve my small print issue. It would be better to make it easier to change by zooming with fingers, but at least its workable. 5 stars because app is beyond what most developers do on Android. Your work is appreciated.

Marvelous. Unique (for good and bad), but super efficient for everything I use markdown for, and I *love* the side navs. It's by far the most pleasant markdown folder *reader* I've found.

Dan. R. Apr 9, 2019

I have been looking for this for a long time. I write in latex, markdown (many variants), asciidoc and i am a believer in a text only primary document (for archival longevity and future human readability), but I love pretty and/or html output. I also love to program in JQuery Epsilon notes is emerging as my goto processor for all this. If it could also do ascidoctor via Asciidoctor.js it would end a very long search. Well done Eugene! The emerging desktop version completes the set. Hope to see this app and its desktop couinterpart exist for a very long time. Thank you

Really takes Markdown to the next level. Gives you lots of intelligent features while still just letting the file be a markdown file. Very impressive and very useful.

Hen. H. Apr 26, 2019

Nice try, but there are better apps (wont tell the one im using now). No cloud connection (only dropbox in premium?) .. (free version useless because character limit of 500?) 5€ is too much for this kind of premium. The app itsself is 4 stars, but the hassle around the premium makes me give only 3 stars. (@dev maybe make a seperate pro version)
