ErgData

**Please check requirements and limitations before installing.**
ErgData is a free application designed to run on newer Android devices. ErgData can connect to a PM5 monitor using Bluetooth Smart. When using a PM3 or PM4 monitor, it requires a USB cable and a USB OTG adapter to connect the Android device to a Concept2 Indoor Rower. Not all Android devices support USB connection to a PM3 or PM4, so please check the compatibility list below or test your device before purchasing cables or a cradle for your device. Once connected, it provides additional rowing statistics, stores and displays your workout results, and uploads your workouts to the Concept2 Online Logbook. It also offers the enhanced visibility of a backlit display.

Features

■ Displays your rowing data in real time.■ Offers a choice of two screens: 1. Screen similar to your Performance Monitor (showing choice of watts, calories or current pace) plus two additional pieces of data from the list below. 2. Screen showing: Drive Length Drive Time Average Force Peak Force Drag Factor Stroke Count■ Logs all your rowing workouts, including intervals, splits and heart rate information.■ Uploads workouts directly to the Concept2 Online Logbook.■ Displays your workout information on a color, backlit screen, so you can see your rowing information in a darkened room.■ Displays weight-adjusted scores.■ Allows you to view different units on your monitor and device (for example, you can display watts on the device while viewing average pace on the monitor).■ Indoor Rower and SkiErg Finder access for when traveling■ Displays weight-adjusted scores.

USB Cable and a USB OTG (On-The-Go) Adapter (available from Amazon, Monoprice and other online vendors). For smartphones, Concept2 recommends part number 1093 Smartphone Cradle for $5.00.■ A compatible Android device with a firmware version that supports USB Host mode. To test compatibility, use the “USB Host Diagnostics” app available free from the Google Play Store. If the USB Host Diagnostics pass all tests, then ErgData for Android will work. The following versions support USB Host mode: Android 3.2 Honeycomb API Level 12 or higher should work but no testing has been done by Concept2. Use the USB Host diagnostics to check. Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich Android 4.1 Jelly Bean Android 4.2 Jelly BeanPlease note that Concept2 cannot guarantee compatibility with any particular device. Manufacturers frequently make changes that may disable ErgData, or you may have an earlier version than we tested. Some devices may require additional steps or special hardware to make it work, and some will never work.See http://www.concept2.com/service/software/ergdata/android-requirements for Device Compatibility table.Note: ErgData will not function properly if a LogCard is in the monitor. Remove any LogCard before using ErgData.

This is a really nice app ruined by a single technical issue. I don't know if it's because of the phone I'm using or whether something is up with the firmware/hardware on the ergs but workouts will just randomly terminate without saving. This occurs particularly with intervals during rest periods but it has happened to me in the middle of a 2km test. It ruins what is perfectly fine app.

One of the best if not the best Rowers on the market. Premium, high quality, equipment everyone likes and uses comes with the App like this? Are you actually serious Concept2? The Interface of this app so out dated and not functional. Connection to PM5 drops or is paused during workout (sometimes). Orientation of the screen changes if you flip phone up only on Setting page. You cannot remove unwanted fields from 2-3 preset windows. You can only cycle through some view options on the main page. Concept2, get your act together and hire proper developers to have an app matching your Rower quality.

I've been using the app for almost two weeks. the last 3 days, the app systematically disconnect from the rower in the middle of the training. The Bluetooth is still active on both rower and phone, nothing change, I'm in the middle of an intensive part of the training ... so with no apparent reason whatsoever, the app just disconnect ... it's not possible to use it in these conditions ...

It does what it says, but it seems so temperamental sometimes...you absolutely have to have it running in the foreground (don't even think about choosing a new playlist or something), otherwise it just loses the connection (but doesn't tell you). It's quite frustrating as I don't really have any need to look at the metrics the phone display gives me, the info on the rower is enough. Even keeping it in the foreground isn't always enough- the connection seems to drop for no reason sometimes. If it could just run in the background it would be such a big improvement IMHO.

All I really want is the bare minimum of reliably saving my workout data to the online logbook. Well, My partner and I had to switch to the USB connection because bluetooth wasn't reliable enough over the course of a workout and the app couldn't recover effectively from a dropped connection even though the PM5 was still collecting data. Not a huge issue but dumb. My recurring problem with the app is that when you're finished with a workout, the app appears to automatically detect it and pop up a tiny dialog box asking if you're done. This is the only way to save your workout on the app, and if you touch the screen anywhere but the even tinier "YES" on the dialog (can just a word without a border even be called a "button"?), your workout data vanishes from the app. There is no other way to save the workout data from the app but that dialog, and it will only show up once so you better hit that "button" exactly right the first time. Yes, you can enter the data manually and yes, you can save it on the PM5, copy it off to USB, and upload it to the logbook. Both of these methods make me question why I'm bothering with the app at all. Overall the app needs to be more robust and fault tolerant.

Update: Devs released a fix! Works now! Original review: No shiny features, a clunky display, and weird authentication menu, but I really appreciated it because it made syncing my workouts easier to both Garmin and Strava. A few days ago it just stopped syncing, tells me to log out and back in, which I did several times, deleted all its data from storage, uninstalled and reinstalled. I don't know what else to try now and I'm giving up. I use a USB stick to sync to the online logbook now.

It was cool the one or two times I could get it to connect to my concept 2, but there's no point in the app if it doesn't record every workout. It's just easier to record them on paper and enter into the online logbook than to sit there fiddling with it all for x amount of time trying to get it to work before every session. I don't know if the problem is the app, my phone (doubt it-- it's a brand new phone), or the PM5, but most of the time it won't connect so I'm uninstalling.

Tirelessly takes far too long to connect to the bluetooth. There is an issue. Therefore i have to add most of my workouts manually. Not a cheap machine, but bob if the app doesnt work. Tried all efforts to connect. My 25 min workouts turn into over an hour just trying to get app to connect to the machine. After about 40 mins, i managed to connect. I had to uninstall and install again. Then it finally worked. Put me in a bad mood really, i just wanted a quick workout. Two stars

This app is not user friendly at all. When you are used to using apps like Fitbit, this feels archaic. The rower and logbook don't sync no matter how many times I check that Bluetooth is on and I push the sync button. I definitely don't recommend. Please overhaul this app and think about redesigning it from a user / customer perspective.... it should be easy to use and intuitive!

The last update says the app would sync the workout online. It doesn't do that. I've rowed more than a dozen times and only 2 sessions were logged. The screen have to be on and on the app to sync to make it work. Though the last workout didn't sync Eventhough I was on the app when I finished the workout. There is plenty of data collected, however, the app doesn't make it appealing. They clearly do not value gamification.

This is a pretty mediocre app. The Bluetooth connectivity fails frequently mid workout on my Pixel2. It works with a cable connected to the PM5, but even then it's only useful to auto sync scores and splits to the logbook. It doesn't really do much else. I've also had a few problems with it not syncing a workout I've just done. If you're doing intervals you have to end the workout on the app, not on the PM5 as if you do, the app will forget your workout and won't sync it.

I'm a bit torn here. As long as it works it's great. I can see more data than on the rowing machine and it transfers my workouts without having to do it manually with verification numbers and whatnot. Recently it stopped working. While it says it has a bluetooth connection and the rowing machine says it too there are no data transferred and visible at the phone up. Is it the new C2 firmware or maybe some incompatible Android update? Please figure it out and fix it.

Would be even better if it stored all the summary data from each session, like on the images shown when you open the app. For those complaining about it having to run in the foreground - if you want to watch a video while you train there's enough info on the c2 screen itself - if you can concentrate on a video you're not concentrating on your form and not working hard enough! 😘

The heart rate data in the log page has disappeared. Just done a workout. Heart rate shown in latest workout but all previous logs have lost their Heart rate data. I have checked the Concept 2 on line log and the heart rate data is still there, so not completely lost, just a pity that it has gone from the app. Otherwise I quite like the app. Useful way of getting workout data captured. Thanks.

The app itself is very bare bones. During the workout it'll give you the breakdown, but once it syncs, the specific breakdown of the data is no longer on the phone. It's still relying heavily on the desktop browsers for data breakdown. A nice feature would also to be to see my friends's info to gamify the experience. No issues with Bluetooth sync although it's a very manual process

I've used this app with a Gakazy S9 cable connected to my PM3. When I first started it was a little hit n miss but overall still good and syncing with my C2 login was great. Every once on a while it would not sync and when doing intervals, I (annoyingly) had to disconnect and reconnect the cable. Recently, it stopped syncing. I had tried uninstall/reinstall git same issue. Repeated the procedure and now it works.

Happy to update this review, as the app is working pretty much fine these days. Sometimes it will lose the connection, for unknown reasons, but mostly it works. Would be great if it could somehow re-import a session from the erg itself when it does lose the connection, so I could still submit the full erg session data to the logbook. Also, recent issue is that notes I add in the app are not added to the logbook.

Works as it should. No frills, noting special. would be great if they synced the data with Google Fit as well as their logbook. The app continues to put itself in the notification bar hours after the app has been closed. Executing a force stop from the app properties is the only way to kill it. Then it comes back. Bug needs to be fixed.
