Glitchy and frustrating to use. The error accusing me of not having an account pops up frequently (I do have an account), forcing me to force stop and restart the app. Lately an "Unable to contact server" error pops up on certain videos but not others. Very frustrating and disappointing. I'd gladly keep paying for this service but won't stick around much longer if quality stays this bad.
It's not bad. Has the games I want to see, but sometimes games will freeze unexpectedly, for no apparent reason. It's a little hard to search for teams you want to see, and being American sports, there are a lot of adverts, which can be annoying. Would be better if it was like NFL game pass, and just showed the American advertising. At least then your not tempted to swap to another game as you wait for your game to restart!
Very bad. First of all the app is not available on the store of my Samsung TV nor on the Xbox So I have to watch games using the Chromecast through my phone. After every commercial break, when the casting resumes the video freezes and I have to quit and restart the cast. It has happened many times that the streaming didn't resume on time after the break, making me lose some live goals... Nhl tv was waaay better
It works. But the quality isn't amazing, live games are very laggy, half of the time when I want to watch something it asks if I have an active subscription (even though I'm logged in on mine). This is the only way I am able to watch my games, hence I have it but if there were any other way I would take that. Please sort out your app ESPN.
Update on may 3rd 2022. Downgrading to 1 star. I'm extremely disapointed. The app does fuction as it's advertised. Not every game is available to stream. 2 stars because parts of games are missing. Recent example (this isn't the only time parts of game action are missing from game replays) is the Kings vs Ducks game played on 11/30. The replay begins at 14:44 into the 1st period. I appreciate that commercials are edited out but not at the expense of getting to watch the entire game
Well, not sure if it is the app or chromecast. Google seems to think it is the app, while espn seems to think it is the chromecast. I don't really care. But, if you live in Europe, you don't get commercials during college football games. Instead you get some screensaver. EVERY TIME there is a commercial, EXPECT to have to disconnect and reconnect the chromecast. Because the screen saver will freeze right after the commercials are over and before the game starts again. The only thing you can do is disconnect and reconnect. So 15 or more times during a game. People have been having this problem for years. NOTHING has changed or will likely change. Don't care who's fault it is. Two huge companies should be able to figure this out.
I am sorry but this is way below standard. In mobile the app often does not resume videos that have been watched halfway through and there is no workaround to even start the video from the beginning. You never know when a random video won't work. Interface is horrendous. In android TV it throws all kinds of random errors, it cannot play videos at bottom drilldown level, it often says I have no subscription because the session expires and I have to restart, search often doesn't work, no subtitles
Every commercial break the NHL stream freezes. Hitting pause and play does not help, recasting to chromecast does not help, basically you need to stop stream and start all over again. That means I miss seconds of play because of this. Second major bug which I thought is my connection is that sound just goes silent for few seconds while video plays smoothly. I thought this might be stream problem but it happens on all NHL games. UNWATCHABLE.
The app seems good at first but it doesn't take long to see how poor it is. When there is a commercial break during a live game the app does not return to live action. During every ad break I had to close my cast to my TV, close the app and reload the game I was watching. After about half an hour I decided to give up and unsubscribed. Really disappointed
The app has a fresh new look but under the hood it's the same old engine. I have to sign in about once an hour, the schedule doesn't remember the filters I've applied. When streaming a game (whether on phone, tablet or chromecast) the video usually stutters/appears almost slow motion, or the audio is out of sync (and yes my connection is more than adequate). I sign up once a year for march madness and am quickly reminded why I don't subscribe all year round..
Inactive Subscription fix. Like a few people I had the inactive Subscription error when trying to watch content. I managed to fix this by first signing out, cancelling the subscription via Google play. Sign back in the app and selecting subscribe. It will NOT charge you again until your next roll over. It refreshed the account and finally accepted the subscription. I love college football so this app is perfect for me.
1) The support is some of the worst, typical for bigger companies that just don't care about quality support any longer. 2) I cancelled my annual renewal with 10 days left and the quality of the stream dropped quite noticably. I had been happy at least with that prior to my cancelling. Was it because I am no longer on a renewal plan? 🤔 I'd advise looking at other sports streaming apps if they cover your sport.
Enjoying the films and stories so far that are available. (Needed something else after watching the Last Dance) However, just the general quality that I would expect on a decent YouTube 4k video makes it a bit difficult to completely immerse myself mentally in it. I get that might have something to do with the production but it would be more of a reason for me to subscribe long term after my trial.
The video and audio or out of sync (about 10 seconds) so really poor to watch. Normally resolves after shutting down and restarting but not recently and happening more frequently. Asks me to log in every so often and theres no continue watching to easily pick up from what your were previously watching. Fantastistic content but very poor system to play and watch it on. Loosing a customer due to it.
Latest update even worse. No persistent notification, loses connection to Chromecast after switching away. Other problems: no watch history or watch later feature, no easy way to switch between live games, no way to filter by conference, can't favorite teams, Fox ACC games available for replay but CBS SEC games aren't, sometimes takes minutes to open, casting resolution poor, bad audio sync. Lucky the desktop web app works okay, because this is a terrible product. Depressing to use.
Utterly useless app. Subscribed to watch NHL live and on demand, NHL games were repeatedly unavailable and would disappear from upcoming live games and replays. Only games available each week were college hockey Ivy League. Tolerated this for a month but have now cancelled app, very disappointed.
Content is superb, delivery extremely sub par. Crashing once going to commercial break and constant steaming issues (sound and picture out of sink, and constant black screen lagging) Won't be subscribing any further.
Echoing other people on here. When streaming to Chromecast during live games the app freezes and has to be restarted at EVERY ad break. This means it happens roughly every ten or fifteen mins. So its basically unusable for streaming live games to Chromecast.
I only use this for college football, there's enough weekend games to keep me entertained. Whats irritating is during a commercial break theres a repetitive we will be right back with crowd noise over and over again better off seeing ads tbh
The espn app use to work fine. Now I try to download espn and, as someone noted, it claims it is unavailable in my area. I am surprised they aren't rated lower than 2.2. there is no app for espn. when I enter espn in search the espn player appears to be the only option.
Meh...App on tv has no info, just tabs with black screens below. Only way it works is by casting from device and then the stream will freeze up and you will have to stop and reconnect. How a big company like ESPN/Disney can't get this right is inexcusable.
The app advertises itself as a way for people outside America to watch American sports, this is just false, they lack any actual sport, are full of documentaries that won't load due to multiple errors, and has no reliable support online
Excellent quality. Installed and working really easy. This is a subscription service but well worth it. Picture quality is best in class and I can throw it to the big screen if I want. I would be lost without it!
One of the worst streaming apps I currently have. I was using nhl tv for the past several years and then was forced to use ESPN. Almost every time I start the app and try to play a game, I get the permissions issue as if I don't have a valid account. Restart app and then it usually works - having to do this for every game?!! Considering the app is so slow in loading, it can take 3-4 minutes just to get the game started. No 'resume' option. It's 2022, this should be embarrassing for ESPN.
