EVA - Ericsson Nikola Tesla Virtualni Asistent

EVA (Ericsson Nikola Tesla Virtual Assistant) is a voice-controlled interface designed for visually impaired people with additional motor or advanced technology, as well as immobile people.

The aim of this project was to enable blind people with additional motor difficulties to voice-control their devices with a touch screen. Such persons include persons without one or both hands, immobile persons and the elderly who are unable to operate the touch screen. The project is also intended for people who do not yet use smart devices with touch screens due to the difficult adaptation to new technologies. By such devices we mean smartphones (smartphones), tablets, or smartwatches. Our intention was to bring new technologies to people who could never use them, or their new technology was very limited. Also, the app is useful for drivers as it allows them to make phone calls, dictate and read SMS messages without looking at the phone screen and taking their eyes off the road while driving.

Although there are many technologies in the world today for speech recognition, voice command and text dictation, these technologies unfortunately support a limited number of foreign languages and are therefore inaccessible to many who do not speak languages such as English, German, Italian, Spanish or French. With this project we wanted to create an experimental solution that would enable the issuing of orders in the Croatian language, as well as in other languages in the former Yugoslavia.

The EVA application currently supports the following features:

Three ways to activate voice by using built-in sensors or by saying a keyword.
Make phone calls by saying the name of a contact or phone number.
Receive phone calls by saying \ "answer \" (this feature is only available in Android version 8.0 or later).
Adding new numbers to your contacts list.
Deleting and Editing Contacts.
View your incoming and outgoing call history.
Send, receive, and read SMS messages.
Automatically say the name or number of callers on incoming calls.
Automatically say the sender and the contents of incoming SMS.
Call emergency services (works even when the device screen is locked).
Checking network and battery status.
Saying your current time and date.
Ability to write, read and take notes.
Built-in calculator for voice execution of basic mathematical operations.
Built-in ability to translate dictated text and SMS from language to language using Yandex Translate.
Built-in weather checker at user's current location, which includes current temperature, air pressure, humidity, and wind speed using Open Weather Map.
Built-in Youtube video search and voice control capability.
Built-in ability to search nearby places like restaurants, cafes and shops using Facebook Places.
Built-in ability to check your current location, which is useful in situations where you are lost, or when you do not know the address and need to report the address where you are due for delivery or for some other reason.
Built-in text dictation for easy dictation of text messages and notes.
Context-sensitive help available at any time by saying the word \ "help \" or asking "What can I say?" This is useful when you need a reminder of commands that you can use in a particular situation while using the application.
Welcome screen (tutorial) that briefly introduces the features of the app to new users.
