This game is really fun and there are so many creatures to create, but the game doesn't let me drag the cards. when it does, it just makes me increase my body size instead of equipping it. still a 5 star game, but the glitches ruin the fun a bit. however, i really like how the AI evolves to better defend itself when a carnivore is present.
It's really fun and I like the mechanics. That's pretty much it. I liked the game so much, I actually bought the real, physical board game! It's great! Physically interacting with the game simply "feels" better. Oh and I did try to redeem the code but it didn't work :(
Beautifully done digital adaptation. UI, animations, sfx and music are great. Expansion is a must to enjoy this game. Plenty of stats, challenges and a campaign mode to keep you entertained for a long while. Reccomended!
Love the game! App runs well and until now without problems. Beware though, the german translation is beyond ridiculous. It's just a word for word translation. For example: "Where has all the food gone" became something like "Wo hat alle das essen gegangen". I don't know how it is in other languages, but it's not playable in german.
But only allows you to play your right most card in hand no matter the one selected. Undo button doesn't work properly either. Gives you back cards you didn't have previously. Game has a good concept but until bugs are fixed it's unplayable.
GREAT game, super entertaining and engaging. The levels on campaign are great. I have a question that I really hope the creators could answer though! Is the game still in process? I just finished playing the campaign levels and am very dissapointed to see there isn't more. Is that the end of the game? Or is there more that will be added in? I'm genuinely curious. But overall the game is great for when you have some extra time on your hands. 😊
Expansion content is buggy when offline. Promo cards don't register as being purchased, so they can't be turned on. Even stranger though is that the climate expansion can't be turn OFF. It just keeps redirecting me to the store when I try
Great game but you really need a tablet. It's a shame bc the gsme is visually impressive for a board game, but it's clearly not designed for phones. Cards and text are nearly illegible. The game mechanics are a blast once you Learn the game, overall very fun.
A great digitalisation of a wonderful boardgame. Free tutor is great and the purchase of base game plus Climate is satisfied. I just hoped there was a campaign mode for Climate.
Excellent game. My partner and I both bought it for phones despite already having the card game! My only complaint is that all the text and the images of cards are much smaller than they should be, as if designed to cause eyestrain for anyone who doesn't have perfect eyes and isn't playing on a tablet. I can't reply to the developers' response, so I'll just add here: the ability to zoom in on cards makes the game playable, but everything I said above stands.
This is my favorite game, but it's so glitchy now. Every multiplayer game I've played recently has frozen or taken my control away from me like the AI is playing. I really hope you guys can fix it cause this is really annoying... thanks EDIT: So they fixed (not all but) most of the issues above. To everyone trying out this game free - you should really buy it. I've had it for two years now and still get a kick out of playing it. Money well spent for sure!
A really fun game. But why do we have to pay for the campaign, I understand that you need money. But campaigns are usually free and dlc campaigns usually are the ones you have to buy
Amazing game. Full of fun, challenge, and strategy. It's fun to optimize builds and create the best fitting species that dominates the ecosystem.
Overall I like it, especially for a game I have never seen before. The one major downfall is a convoluted payment system that charges nearly 10 bucks for the "full game" then requires you to purchase card packs individually. My gripe with it is that nowhere does it say that the cards are or are not included. I wanted the extra cards and assumed if I bought the full game I would get access, which I did not. Disappointed, but not world ending. Clarity would be appreciated next time.
Great fun. I have only played once irl so I'm still learning. I liked the campaigns a lot and wish there was more levels. Multiplayer is alright but not much fun when people who are really advanced dominate right off the bat and I really hate that cards have to be removed in order of placement. The rounds have a time limit and if you want to make changes it can time you out before you are done. My favorite is the weekly challenges.
A great adaptation of the board game. Implementation had some rough spots. When it prompted me for a username, at first all possible names were "taken". I was forced to skip that, and when I came back to selecting a name in settings, it had actually accepted one of the supposedly "taken" names, and I was able to change to my preferred name. All's well I suppose.
I love the Evolution board game and expansions, so i decided i would try out the app. The app is great, the artwork is gorgeous, the game mechanics run smooth and it is easy to pick up and play even if you never played the game before. my only quip is how the game occasionally freezes in multiplayer games, but i wouldn't hold it against them, the app is just out and i am confident they will work the bugs out. on an unrelated note, i cant wait for oceans to come out!
overall the game is pretty fun once you get the hang of it. the tutorial doesnt give you great information because the way the cards can work is very complex. The more you play it you'll be able to catch on to how the cards work so keep a close eye, there are still times my carnivores die and I'm like,"um why??". This review used to be 2 stars but they changed the price of their game from 10 to $8 and the crashing problem got fixed. if they keep this up I'll definitely improve rating again.
A very good adaptation of the board game. The UI is intuitive and easy to use. The graphics are gorgeous and the bonus sketches of the creatures you create are lovely. The app is huge though (450MB), very quickly drains my battery and is slightly sluggish even in the low graphics mode (I do have a fairly low end phone). Despite this it is perfectly playable and enjoyable. Edit: One addition that would be nice would be a way to randomly choosing the opponent personalities in the AI matches.
I am very frustrated by their most recent update. I am generally resistant to making and using accounts with individual app makers, so for months I was playing the free-to-download version without any kind of sign-in. It's wonderful that the paid version offers online multiplayer, hot-seat play with one device, and a more extensive campaign. However, I was delighted that the game allowed me to play offline, with no sign in, indefinitely against the easiest AIs. It was a wonderful time-killer. Unfortunately, a recent update increased it's connectivity with Google play, and now the game won't let me access the main menu and single player without a log-in. I find this reduction of functionality frustrating and unpleasant. Hopefully the responsive developers will reverse this particular decision. All in all, a well-made game and I have few complaints. I recommend for some quick fun with friends, but as a person skeptical of always-on connectivity I wish the developers would restore offline mode.
Note: I have not dropped the $10 on the full game yet, so this review remains preliminary. That said, after completing the demo campaign and two rounds of AI games, I was so impressed that I was spurred to purchase the physical board game. The graphics are very clean and line up nicely with the physical games design. The controls are intuitive and I've had no issues with bugs in the daily free multiplayer game. The price point is high for an android game. Overall 9/10.
Rating upgrade after the patch - my phone still gets a bit warm but it's nowhere near as unnerving as it used to be! Nice gameplay and great concept but I still haven't got much of a clue about tactics yet (perhaps that'll improve when the glossary gets added). Pricing still seems a little steep to me, especially given the absence of features like asynchronous play, but overall a thoroughly enjoyable app. [Previous comments: Still deciding... I really want to like it but having just played my first multiplayer game my phone is now too hot to hold! Seems like something must be going wrong if the game needs that much processing power.. Also, I'd really like a glossary of all the cards to find out what each card does and how to use them without having to trawl through tutorials or campaigns before having a chance in multiplayer (e.g. I couldn't get the monkey bonus to work but there were no instructions anywhere to explain where I went wrong)]
The free version is a great way to learn the board game and the full multiplayer version offers enough strategic possibilities and trophies to unlock to be worth the upgrade. Fast paced, addictive, and nice art design. I love how evolutionary biology and ecology concepts show up in the gameplay. You are constantly adapting to your environment.
This is very confusing. The game starts but no way to set up an account, no information on upgrades that might enable you to set up an account. Utterly irritating! All I want to do is play online with friends and happy to pay! Such a basic problem, confused that the game was put out in this state. Thanks to the developer for replying and explaining that users are required to complete the tutorial before making an account. Having this information available when the game first loads would be incredibly useful. Like many people I often jump straight into games without spending time on tutorials/instructions. Not telling people how to make an account and, incredibly, how to pay money for the game seems like the strangest of design choices. I have increased the score from 1 star to 3 stars as the experience I have had so far is not great, but I do appreciate the prompt response of the developer.
I really enjoy this game. It's original and you definitely need to think of you want to win. Just one thing is like would be to have a memory aid ready to display with all the cards and their effects. When you're not totally familiar with the game it really helps. Anyway I'm definitely gonna buy the real board game some day.
