EWG's Food Scores

How does your food score? How do we know what we’re eating, really? Food processors make so many claims these days. Supermarkets are loaded with foods that contain chemicals no one can pronounce.
EWG’s Food Scores houses information on tens of thousands of foods in a simple, searchable online format designed to guide consumers to healthy, affordable food that’s good for people and the planet.

The database includes more than:
• 80,000 products
• 5,000 ingredients
• 1,500 brands

How did we come up with our scores? We combine these ratings into a single overall product score.

-
- Nutrition. The nutrition scoring algorithm considers multiple factors, including calories, saturated fat, trans fat, sugar, sodium, protein, fiber and fruit, vegetable and nut content.

-
- Ingredient concerns. The ingredient concerns algorithm focuses on factors such as the likely presence of key contaminants, pesticides, hormones and antibiotics and the health implications of certain food additives.

-
- Processing. The processing score reflects EWG's best estimate of the extent to which a particular food has been processed. Scoring factors include modification of individual ingredients from whole foods and the number of artificial ingredients.

Please give this app some development (and basic compatibility testing) love. It crashed on my first click. I reopened and searched for the item instead. It then crashed as I clicked for the item description. That is 100% failure within 3 clicks. All I can do is uninstall and hope that you make this app work or take it off the app store and give the space to someone who wants to make a better version.

The app didn't work at all. Tried to scan an item 3 times, the app closed all three times. Tried to put the name of the product in and the same thing happened. Not wasting my time on something that can't work from the very beginning.

Same complaint as everyone else. It won't scan and when you try to type the food in it just force closes the app.

So on KUWTK Kourt mentions the app and it's mission. Since this is so important to my fam as well I thought I would ck out the app. However I will wait this one out and pass until the scanner & app is properly functioning, Until then chao

The database of food research is great. But... fix the scanner app. Seriously. I would use it a lot more if I didn't have to search for every singe item. 5 stars for the info in the database, 1 star for the current state of the app. One would think that having a broken app would be embarrassing after putting so much work into the project.

I am pretty well educated on what is healthy or not, but sometimes I get stumped & when I found out about this app, I was very excited to be able to find the info I need w/o standing in the grocery store for 20 mins researching. On my 1st test run at home I found that #1, the barcode scanner doesn't work at all. App crashes everytime I open it. #2, it doesn't seem to have info about things already on the healthy side. I guess it's for ppl just starting to learn, which is great, but I hope they step it up!

This is really useful app but only if it works and remains open for few seconds. It just crashes after every 3 or 4 seconds.

Love the idea. Have huge problem where app closes almost every time I try to look up or scan an item. Please fix this.

Scanner doesn't work. Just closes the app when I select it. Like the idea of the app but I won't use it if the scanner doesn't work. Too bad:/

I got this app for me and my family so we can check food in our pantry and at the grocery store before we buy it. However, the scan function doesn't work and whenever I type anything in it says that it can't find the product. What good is having this app if it doesn't even work.

Each time I try to scan the app closes. There is some good information on the website. Just very frustrating that the app doesn't wotk.

App worked for a month and now crashes when I try to scan. It was worth 5 stars when it worked.

The app used to work pretty good, but now it won't even open at all without forced-close errors. Uninstalled it and reinstalled; same thing.

Cannot use the scan code, it crashes the application and it would be the best way to find or suggest a product. Please fix. Thank you

Info is good and vast but the scanner stops the app. Searching by product name and locating it is not fun.
