Exif Notes

Exif Notes let's you quickly save important notes and exif data when shooting with film. It allows you to add frequently used gear such as camera bodies and lenses to your database. These can then be selected when adding new rolls of film and when adding new frames. When adding new frames you can save information such as time taken, lens used, shutter speed, aperture, location and custom notes.
You can export Exiftool commands for specific film rolls. You can upload these to Dropbox for example and download them on your computer. You can save the exif data to your scanned files on your computer using ExifTool by Phil Harvey and the ready made commands. In addition to the ExifTool commands you can export a roll's data in .csv format. You can then use a spreadsheet programme like Excel on your computer to view the data in an easily readable format.

Exif Notes is still a work in progress and new features may be added with future versions. There are other Android apps that let you do the same thing as Exif Notes. The objective of Exif Notes is to be fast and easy to use as well as easy on the eyes. It was born out of love for film and out of interest for programming. Exif Notes is a hobby project that I have been developing on my spare time. However, it is developed with good practices and complies with Material Design while being compatible with most Android devices.

Excellent little app that has improved over time. Not much to add to praise given. I would like to ask if there is some avenue for export of gear and archived rolls that can perhaps be imported into the app on another device. Im simply looking to the future when a mobile device change happens- id hate to do the vast amount of data entry (on a keypad/screen) all over again. Thanks for the work youve done on this. Has been helpful to my current/previous workflows.

This is an exceptional app save one caveate: lack of support for custom aperture values. Interface and customisation are excellent, and integrations with exiftool are useful. Not being able to set the aperture value to 3.4, for example can be annoying because I have to modify the exif commands before running. Otherwise, great product. Well worth it.

Incredibly useful app for film photographers who like their metadata. Works quite well in general, but with a number of small quirks: don't need to unlock to add a frame, but do to take a photo to store with it, which leads to an awkward minimize-unlock-open workflow; rolls are only active or archived, so completed but not scanned rolls clutter up the active list; exiftool output is for Windows and requires some hand editing for unix; etc. None of these are blockers, just nits in a good app.

Very nice I find this app very useful. But I do have a suggestion. It would work better for digital photogs who use manual lenses if the values for exp. time and apperture weren't set in stone ( I have a lens with no stops, it's continous). Now I simetimes have to enter a dummy value an put the real one in the comment field. I'd rather edit the right field. I know it's for film, but we want it too! 😏

Neat shoot log.I have always 4-6 loaded films in my cameras or backs. I would appreciate some color coding by camera (red for Bessa, blue for Werra, ...) and also by film roll stage (loaded, unloaded, developed...). This would make may life so much easier while searching for right film roll.

I really like this app its quick and easy to use. My only complaint is that while the frame count can be made to count up automatically, I can't make it count down which would be nice for my cameras that wind the film backward as of now I have to do it by hand.

Last update has changed the way the app behaves with screen locks. Now before every frame I have to exit the app, unlock the phone, and start the app again. Otherwise it will not let me write a comment. This cannot be meant as a feature? Annoying :-(

I just gotta say... This app is simple, elegant, and enormously helpful for improving your analog photography. It makes it easier and saves more time than other apps I've tried. Big thanks to the developer.

Great app, good design, fast, fully featured, and functional. The exiftool integration is amazing for quickly tagging my photos. Would recommend to any film photographer!

Can't add a custom exposure time, while can add a custom aperture. As a result, not usable for peisage photography anytime but a middle of a day. For what I need to write a memo, as if not for a custom exposure time!

ah, all the features that are sadly missing from photo notes -- even the ability to pair your frame description with a shot from your cell phone!

Difficult to guess what the terms mean. E.g. what is a "roll"? I just want to see EXIF of photos, but I have to create rolls. That's incomprehensible.

Very simple and useful app. The integration to Exiftool on PC is a life saver. How can I donate to you?

Any chance of adding f1.5 to support my Voigtlander 50mm f1.5 lens?

Just what I was looking for!

Great app, invaluable to any film photographer. Developer was kind enough to implement my suggestion for setting exposure compensation increment/decrement per camera in the next release! Many thanks and keep up the great work!

App is simple to use and very functional. I mainly use this as a logbook and nothing else and I think it is the most useful app in the playstore! Where's the donate button?!

I like the app a lot, but I can't make heads or tails of Exif Tool. I need a graphics based program to copy the exif data to my scans. I don't understand Exif Tool at all. I don't even understand the FAQ section. So five stars for the app and one star for what to do with the results.

(1) Would be nice if "No. of Exposures" actually worked. Expected: if I say that the number of exposures was 5, it will actually generate 5 exiftool invocations. Observed: it generates only one invocation and simply ignores that value. (2) Also would be nice if I didn't need to add an underscore to my file name: I have a bunch of files named like img012.tiff. (3) It would be even nicer if the output CSV were valid: first, the header in the file can be something more standard. Second, it could've correctly escaped the Description, Address and Coordinates values, because they can contain commas, quotes, etc

Pet. K. Mar 17, 2018

Is there any way to set non-standard aperture values (e.g. f/2.4, f/1.7)?

Sam. S. Jan 8, 2018

I really like the app, but I'd appreciate it if you'd remove the underscore (or give the option to) in the file names for the exiftool export so I don't have to manually do it, also one of my cameras has shutter speed increments of less than 1/3 of a stop, so some kind of manual shutter speed entry would be useful there.

Nice modern interface and enough functionality! Would be cool to be able to make a picture with a phone camera as a "preview" of what was photographed, but it's also OK without it. Oh, and as additional feature, it would be cool to have an exposure meter and/or "sunny 16" calculator.
