Get Turn-by-Turn Directions Using Beacon Technology
- Visiting the Museum? Explorer provides turn-by-turn directions from any location, from the edge of the universe to the age of the dinosaurs, plus the shortest route to restrooms, shops, cafes, and exits.
How does Explorer know where you are? The Museum has placed more than 700 Bluetooth beacons throughout its 45 permanent halls. These tiny beacons give off signals that your phone can detect (when Bluetooth is enabled). Your phone calculates your position based on detecting three of these beacons simultaneously. This triangulation is not always perfect, especially in certain areas like large, multi-level halls, meandering walkways, or stairwells. Your phone should be able to detect the hall that you are in and provide turn-by-turn directions, but sometimes the “blue dot” is not exactly in the right place. In some rare cases it will even be missing. Moving to another area and waiting a few moments will usually fix the issue.
The Museum’s free AMNH-Guest Wi-Fi also varies in strength throughout the complex. Certain materials and large exhibits (i.e. the Blue Whale) either absorb or reflect the radio signals used by Wi-Fi, further complicating this technology. If you experience difficulty connecting to Wi-Fi in a particular part of the Museum, you can usually fix the issue by moving a short distance away.
NOTE: Bluetooth must be turned on for full functionality. Continued use of GPS running in the background can dramatically decrease battery life.

Certainly can be improved. More info about the displays and some audio description can be added. But overall a successful and well thought app.
I went to the museum for the first time and this app helped me a lot cause it's easy to get lost in there lol. I'd definitely reccomend this for anyone who's visiting or just doesn't want to carry a big map with them.
app won't stay open more than 2 seconds, can't get past the 2nd screen, closes before I can touch the Continue button. Samsung Galaxy J3 Luna Pro, Android 6.01.

Great navigating! The museum is huge and it was extremely helpful to have something to tell me where everything I wanted to see was, along with the bathroom. Overall, five stars due to the navigation and the fact that it takes in what you like and then shows you exhibits that might interest you.

App says that it cannot locate me, even though it shows me in the correct position on a map. Because it thinks it cannot locate me, it refuses to give me directions to any exhibits. How about just telling you where the exhibit is so that I can find it myself? How about linking to the map so that I can just figure out how to get there myself? Nope.
Excellent! I've found it extremely useful navigating the labyrinth of different exhibitions. It uses wifi + Bluetooth to show you directions.

The app allows you too make a customized list of what you want to see. Gives detailed step by step instructions on how to get where you want to go. It's very easy to use. Great job!

This is great! The museum is gigantic, and if you need to go somewhere you can navigate inside the museum with this app. Also there's some background information. Highly recommended!
