Fair: Get a car on your phone

Fair is an app that lets you shop used cars based on personalized payments you can afford, sign for the one you want with your finger – then pick it up and drive it for as long you want with no long-term debt or commitment, negotiation or even physical paperwork.

The payments for your Fair car include a limited warranty, routine maintenance, roadside assistance and let you add Fair insurance as an option. This way, practically everything you need to drive is bundled in one place.

Fair has thrown out the outdated way people buy cars, and replaced it with a simple, digital process that lets you get a car the same way you get everything else: from wherever you are, right on your phone, for as long as you want it. Just scroll, sign, drive – and walk away any time.

Maybe you’ve considered car leasing, but don’t want to pay a premium for a fully loaded new lease car that you’re forced to keep for years. Or perhaps you Googled “buy car online” only to learn that most car buying apps just throw you into the same debt-dependent dealership experience. Or maybe you need a rideshare car and looked at a rental for Uber, but found that it was way too expensive and that the rideshare car rental options were unavailable or too limited.

Instead of having to buy cars used, Fair has you covered with access to thousands of late-model, low-mileage pre-owned cars with transparent payments that fit your budget. Just make a one-time Start Payment and monthly payments for as long as you keep your car.

With flexibility and no long-term commitment, Fair beats traditional car leasing and car buying apps by giving you the freedom to drive what you want for as long as you want. Don’t just buy cars. Instead, “Fair” your next ride! Here are a few reasons why.

Fair is Flexible
Fair is taking on outdated car buying apps with a new way to shop used cars that adjusts with your changing lifestyle. Whether you’re getting a rideshare car rental for Uber, or want something different from the “buy car online” thing as you look for a vehicle for personal use, Fair is an innovative way to drive that’s as flexible as your life needs to be.

• No long-term financing
• No multi-year car leasing commitment
• Freedom to walk away any time

Fair is Simple
With Fair, it’s easy to shop used cars for a personal vehicle or rideshare car. Customers can get pre-qualified and choose from a huge selection of pre-owned cars, sign with their finger for the one they want, then pick up their keys and go. Let’s see other car buying apps do that!

• Completely paperless from end to end
• No more haggling at the dealership about loan or traditional car leasing terms
• Get pre-qualified for Fair- with a few taps

Fair is Affordable
Unlike traditional car leasing and car buying, Fair includes practically everything you need to drive in your monthly payment. And if you’re looking at cars for Uber, there are tons of rideshare car perks you’ll see when you log into your Uber driver-partner account. Don’t buy cars used just to end up negotiating for them and taking out a lengthy loan. Fair your next car!

• Pay-as-you-go convenience with fully transparent pricing
• Limited warranty, routine maintenance, and 24/7 roadside assistance included
• Special offers through the Uber incentives program

At Fair, we believe that when you shop used cars, it doesn’t have to come with the massive headache of traditional car leasing and car buying. That’s why we turned outdated car buying apps on their heads by offering a new way to drive that’s flexible, affordable and all on your phone.

So whether you’re getting a rideshare car, or just one for yourself, the future is Fair!

Fair is now live for drivers in these areas:
Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, Washington, Washington, D.C.

Great app! Got the car within 20 hours of booking. :) Edit - I thought it has been a really good customer service but they proved me wrong. After returning the car, the experience is worst. You aren't allowed to login to your account anymore so for paying the last bill, you have to call the customer care which is closed even during business hours. Instead of sending me the prorated bill, I get a full bill. I hope they contact me soon. Edit 2: They fixed the issues.

Can't search based on model or features. You can heart a car you like which I expected might short-list it but I don't see any way to access that list. They say you can switch cars any time but each time you switch you have to pay another non-refundable (after 3 days) start-fee. I found that a bit misleading as it is cost-prohibitive to switch. If you plan to have the car for 6 mo. you effectively end up paying double the usual monthly payment once you amortize the fee.

The app is very convenient and functional. In the beginning I was a bit hesitant giving so much private information. Now I understand that this was absolutely necessary, because the app also runs a background check and generates the contract and other documents. Also the whole process was quite fast. The slowest part was waiting for confirmation from a dealer (two times), but even that only took a few hours. A small suggestion could be to enable an option of receiving all documents by email.

Been stuck on the final option to authorize my start payment. A box comes up saying "Something went wrong". It's been two weeks trying to get a car. I should be able to make a payment over the phone with customer service but everything is purely app-based with Fair. Very frustrating. update: issue was fixed and car is now in my possession. honestly the idea of this app os great to be able to lease a car but just be prepared to be patient in the beginning.

Ive only downloaded the app and looked through the cars available to me. I think the concept is good. I also think the pricing is fair who ever said they can get brand New bmw from a dealership for 0 to 1k down and $270 a month must have perfect credit. The prices seems on par with what they will ask for at a used car dealership. The only diffrence is that you don't get to keep the car but the way I see it is that after a few years you would want something newer and would either sell or trade in your depreciated vehicle or you could keep the old thing and pay the price of keeping it alive. So it would be better to just pay the perpetual payment of having a newish car that you dont have to pay the cost of maintenance and just turn it in whenever you want something new. I'm giving it 3 stars for now but will change it depending on further experience with the app. When I first downloaded it I tried changing my area but it kept giving me the same inventory and the filter controls were not working but they seem to be working now a few days later. I would be so much more pleased with the app if there was a filter for transmission. I'm looking for a manual transmission vehicle but cant filter out the automatics so I'm forced to click every vehicle that im interested in and go through the pics to see the pics of the shifter. Alot of the cars says transmission unknown in the details but there is a pic a of the shifter when looking at the interior pics.

Twice they failed to get me a car within a reasonable period of time. After paying a deposit, and put on a waitlist for the Chatsworth Fair Station the FAIR closed that location! Which I didn't find out until I physically went there. I then had to make another deposit for the Glendale Station (which had a waiting list of over a week). When the car finally became available two weeks later I was able to pick up personal car back from the repair shop. Very unhappy Uber Partner, lost $ opportunitys.

The app takes forever to load and doesn't work half the time. Prices are much higher tham advertised, thanks to taxes and insurance. Updating payment in the app doesn't work. Fair didn't send me my permanent license plate after multiple conversations with customer service and I got a parking ticket and was pulled over because of it. Honestly, it would be cheaper to do a down payment and a monthly lease if you want a new car, especially if you're doing it for Uber.

Hate seeing this ad on YouTube so I decided to download it and return the favor. This has to be one of the most annoying ads on YouTube and quite frankly, if I wanted a car then I would take the time to look for one rather than trust an app. I've already emailed YouTube about repetitiveness of this ad. Hopefully no one else hears how this actor got a car using an app. Waste of time and annoying seeing it in every video.

Well, so much for owning a new car. This app did absolutely nothing for me. While the decision was fast, it definitely didn't help me out. Some of these so called easiest way to get a car apps need to work with not so good credit too. MOST Middle and Lower Class citizens are not going to qualify here and I would not waste my time unless you have perfect or next to perfect credit! This app could be improved to help those needing it MOST!

The monthly price for almost all the vehicles have gone up! For older models (4-5 years plus) at that! What's really blown my mind is how the starting payments for "ALL" the vehicles on the app have shot up 300% - 600%!! RIDICULOUS! The starting payment for a car I was planning to get in my favorites list was $870. I went back less than a week later and it jumped to over $3000! And thats for the minimum starting! This App was supposed to be the future of car buying!? What happened? Smh..

Mobile app experience is horrific. Need to register and register and register again with each update. I keep going back for more hoping that the experience improves because the "idea" is exactly the car buying experience I want. But with the lack of search by vehicle feature/functionality... the experience just fails to deliver. And the lack of personalization... and need to re register constantly... it's just ends up delivering more frustration than anything else

Used to be easier to use. I just want to search on a particular zip code and be able to tick off a couple of car models to search on. But it's impossible to do that. This app needs a lot of improvement. I can't even click on Brands anymore and be sure it'll search reliably on those brands. Tons of other car apps are so easy - why is this one junk for over a year. It puts me off to using them.

Con. B. Aug 14, 2019

this app is terrible. it was recommended by a friend but I can see no reason to use it or trust it for that matter. The vehicle pictures are generic stock photos and not accurate representations of the vehicle you will be getting. Many listings don't include interior pictures and many don't even have a picture of the vehicle at all. High prices with high mileage vehicles. Bad experience overall, 10/10 would NOT recommend.

Geo. M. Jan 13, 2019

Customer service is impossible to get a hold of. My first attempt get to get a car resulted in wrong address, wrong color, wrong transmission type. The app randomly crashes and doesn't filter locations correctly. The only reason this kind of thing survives is because of their price point, but the rest is so bad that it's just not worth it.

Overall I feel this was a solid experience and would highly recommend to a specific type of customer. I got a 2017 Buick Lacrosse pretty loaded in NYC. The biggest issues I encountered I feel I was also to blame. Several great things. First if you're the kind of guy that sees cars as a lousy investment and doesn't like to be tied to one 3 years or more, this is for you. If you think about it, you are simply renting a car for a far lower rate than with a car rental place, and you get a much better vehicle....which you can turn in with 5 days notice! Second, the rates, with big variations, are in line with leasing the cars. However, your 'start payment' seems to be at least 60% less - mine was like 80% - less than a regular down and security deposit. The fair payment includes at my request the sales tax. Third, they preapprove you, and it's a fairly frozen range you are authorized to lease. Means the cars you can view are limited on the slider bar to the assigned range. And you don't have to worry about the deal not being finalized when they do a hard credit run. Fourth, all their vehicles seem to be in pretty good condition. What it appears they do is they purchase the vehicle from the dealer then they lease it directly to the customer. Last, the entire process, once you order a vehicle, is the easiest I've ever seen. This is because at sign up they take care of the soft credit check, basic information, etc so instead of having a day of getting paperwork, signing things and such you do the whole thing piecemeal. So by the time you get the vehicle it feels like you did virtually nothing. Con1. My first vehicle of interest was a Honda Pilot, I'm in NYC. After I did what was required and solicited the vehicle, after about 24 hours the order was cancelled by fair because the odometer read from the dealer was not as advertised. However, it turned out that I found a much better fit for me with the Buick, and it was a little cheaper, so it worked out well. Con2 they need more cars listed to avoid the cancellations. In other words, a bigger inventory at least in N.Y. Con3....the biggest. They need to have some kind of final customer or dealer inspection process. The way it appears to be set up is that I just show up and get the car, which is used of course. Smart people would do that intuitively, but it was raining and I was in a rush so I just darted out of there. A couple of days later I noticed a barely perceptible ding on the drivers side, I realized it may have had a couple of hundred more miles on it which matters (get the extra miles), and a faulty low tire pressure sensor (I figured out how to make it work). If you buy from them inspect your car upon pickup thoroughly. My issues were trivial, but avoidable. Overall, I think once they work out all the app and process kinks this will be amazing and I really enjoyed using the app. One tip: when viewing several cars when you come back to the main screen you start again at the list of all the cars. An easy workaround is to 'favorite' all your cars of interest from the main list FIRST and deselect as needed from the favorites list. Much more enjoyable this way. Overall, for my specific needs this app is great!

I saw all the negative reviews, but thought I'd give it a try because of the flexibility it offers. Worst decision ever. Unsurprisingly, it's a great idea with terrible execution. Uniquely awful experience. Because I changed my address, I've had to call fair technologies and the dealership over twenty times (often with 30 minute holds) and yet my issue is not fixed. My temporary license is expired, and I have not been able to use my vehicle for several days now.

Osw. P. Mar 10, 2020

It's difficult to view the documents or signing for a renewal. Won't work 7 out of 10 times. Chat is better than calling, the wait time is very long. I am unable to see any of my documents. There is no other way to sign a contract that using the app to the app doesn't work. After thinking a while about this, seems clear Fair knew they had to shut down the Rideshare section of their business. Not honestly done, though. They neutered the app to make drivers return cars in anger. Shady.

Fair is a really bright idea, but even more a bad realization. Service is not responsive. It has a lack of competence - they are asking same questions over and over again and I need to wait at least hours to get a response. When I tried to rent my first car, the app started to display "Uh Oh! There was an unexpected error" everytime I attempt to sign in. Since then I'm not able to do anything, because someone smart had this thought that the app will be the only way to interact with the service.

Chr. F. Nov 2, 2019

The app itself is fairly (pun intended) easy to use, at first. Of course there's no problem with the app processing payment. Once you are a customer, everything changes. Communicatioon theough the app is a nightmare. Literally upwards of 1 hour hold times. Nothing is ever resolved on the first contact. Maintenance plan is garbage after the first 30 days. Unless you will lease a BRAND NEW vehicle, Inwould think long and hard before using the service.

love my car!! It's been about 3 months since I got my car and have had zero issues with it or the service. the app crashes a lot but other than that getting the car was extremely easy and came with the registration and tags. My old car I owned died on me and I was scrambling for an easy and quick solution so I wouldn't be without a vehicle and this was it. The process was very easy. Only downfall is the wait time on the app and phone is ridiculous. other than that It's been EASY and helpful!!

Jac. H. Mar 15, 2019

Edit: So I was able to finally get a vehicle I wanted (2017 Kia Soul) and the process of picking up the vehicle was super easy. Fair paid for my Uber to pick it up (the vehicle was in Orlando and I live in Tampa). I haven't had to do any maintenance yet, so I don't know how that process will go. I'll update when that happens. This app is worthless. I've tried three times to order a vehicle (once going through the process of signing the contracts) and each time the dealer cancels it.

Their ad campaign is the worst. The only reason I'm writing this review is because every ad I get is from these people and they've annoyed me enough to make me waste my time writing a negative review. So I decided to give them a go and see if they are liars. Needless to say their service is as good as their ads. Here's a car with no features and steel wheels for the same price you can get a Mercedes CLA for. The cars are way overpriced for what you are getting (they are the middleman...) If you want a good deal wait until a dealership is having a sale or promo. This is an app for the person who likes to give their money away and drive a piece of garbage. Now for the car listings in the app itself. They have a picture of a truck, for example, with a large cabin (2 rows of seats with 2 doors on each side.) Everything looks nice and the price is reasonable, so you press on it. Then it opens and the picture changes to a piece of junk work truck with an extremely long bed and no features. What is the point of making me open the ad for it? Do you think I will buy this because you've inconvenienced me enough to open the listing...? In conclusion, do not use this service.

sha. a. Feb 16, 2021

update: still completely dislike the app. after 4 months of back and forth and after I supplied all of the documents they require, I still got denied. so much work and wasted money spent on a rental car in the mean time when I could have just gone with a traditional lease. don't waste your time! fair? lol...terrible! they run your credit saying that they are "pre-qualifying" you and it doesn't affect your score. don't do it! counts as a hard inquiry even if you just want to browse.

Jos. M. Feb 16, 2019

The app doesn't even work. I'm having the same issue as some other users where the app is stuck in an endless loop, not allowing me to complete my order. You'd think a bug which prevents customers from purchasing a vehicle would be a top priority, but its been weeks and nothing has been fixed. Great idea, but absolutely awful application

Aar. V. Aug 14, 2019

I've tried both Uber fleet and personal use. Both times I've had a great experience! Transaction from A to Z goes smoothly! They provide an uber to pick up the car at the dealership. They pick the car wherever you want once you'll return it. My dad saw how easy it was and he decided to get a car too. Honestly no strings attach! Once you get to the dealer to pick up the car, it's no more than 5 minutes and your out with the car!!!! 💯

Len. P. Jan 2, 2019

App could use more specified search options to narrow down your options to something most suited to what you're looking for, especially a location option as it shows cars for the entire state in which you live with no way to narrow the area. Other sort examples: Transmition, drive train, options for specific types AND brands at the same time, etc.

Ale. G. Aug 15, 2019

Very shady business. I 100% do not recommend doing business with them at all. If for whatever reason you do decide to go the Fair route, make sure you take a picture of EVERYTHING when you pick up the car, and I mean everything. Even if it might seem insignificant, take a picture and take a picture of EVERYTHING again before the car is returned, and again, I mean everything. Fair charged me for things that the vehicle already had when I got the vehicle and for things that happened after the vehicle was picked up. Luckily I had pictures of most except for a few things that slipped past me so I was charged even though they should know what sort of damage their vehicles have prior to someone picking them up. And don't forget to take a picture of the odometer before and after as well because they will try to get you on the mileage. Something that isn't made abundantly clear is that mileage is prorated meaning that if you return the car before a year, you CAN be charged for excess mileage despite being under the limit. Prorated miles means you have 833 miles/month for the base 10k miles/year they allow you which should not be an issue if you don't drive a lot. Worst experience ever!

Tro. K. Sep 19, 2018

All these complaints are people that didn't really read the information listed in the app. Or take the extra time to either look them up or contact a rep. I havent had the pleasure of using the service yet due to the closest location is over 350 miles away. But am looking forward to doing it when they get a closer location. Will update when that happens.

Col. M. Oct 30, 2018

The filters are horrible at narrowing down the list. It lacks basic options like 4 cylinder, v6 or v8, 3rd row seats etc. The options to choose from aren't very diverse either. Also it list cars from monthly payments, that's backwards way of shopping for a vehicle, first thing you look at is pricing 2nd thing is interest rate, the last thing is monthly payment

F. M. Apr 27, 2019

This isn't a full review of their service, because quite frankly, they didn't let me get that far. I was really excited to lease a vehicle, but the app bugged out and i could no longer access anything on the app. I contacted support twice, once through chat, and once with a phone call. The representatives were nice and helpful, but there were absolutely no results. Two weeks later and they haven't contacted me. BE CAUTIOUS!! Do Not Recommend!
