Fast Speed Test for Chromecast

I've been having some issues with my chromecast recently. For some reason YouTube videos look terrible now, really poor quality low resolution picture and occasionally unsynced audio. Anything else I stream looks fine like Netflix etc, just seems to happen with YouTube. Wanted to check my speed and this app seems to work well. Using Ookla on my phone reports a speed of around 70-80mbps, and using this apps shows the chromecast with a speed of 35mbps which should be more than enough to run YouTube in HD right? So I'm none the wiser as to what is causing this issue. Chromecast is in the same place where it has been for about 3 years now and I've never had any problems until about a month ago. I don't understand. It's very frustrating. This app seems great though.

The resulted speedlink is only displayed in the Chromecast itself. It would have been great to have the result inside the app that's casting. for example I initially thought the speedtest was unsuccessful because I was not looking directly at the screen it was casting since inside the app there's no visual indication it was working. Also would be nice to have a longer test (30sec or 1min) for a more concrete result instead of just a short test (5 sec).

Doesn't work. Tried, didn't work same as most other reviews. I left a review saying the same. Dev went and posted the same response about some server issue all over the negative reviews. It might be, so I tried again. Same exact result, says loading, puts a big picture, but blank white box across the middle horizontally.. Used Chromecast Ultra. Doesn't work. I wish it did.

Quick and easy installation. Finds devices, select.launch test, and pick the equipment to test. The results are simple to understand and are well presented. Having bandwidth guidelines for different video formats on the test screen tells me the developer knew what the program should provide the user. Not just show numeric results which some may find meaningless without reference. Where is the purchase button?

The app works, does what it suggests. But it's one of those apps you trudge through the ads (does anyone actually ever acknowledge these kinds of ads?) and use once, than promptly uninstall. Because it's so specific, it's not easy finding another app that does what this one does, so 2 stars...

Not quite sure what real speeds are. The tests always resolve to almost the same numbers everytime. I have 300Mbps and the Chromecast is hard lined. Tests rarely ever fluctuate, maybe servers cap at a certain speed? Idk. It works sorta. It's the only app that works somewhat that I've found. The rest are pretty bad.

It really doesn't work as advertised. I've seen other reviews with the same problem that it must be picking servers or something from far away. Was having issues with my chromecast stopping and buffering when streaming. Was on wifi. Ran the test. Had over 100 ping. Changed my set up, hardwired into my PC, ran the test again, had even worse ping. Saying "we are working to improve" doesn't cut it. Shouldn't have launched the app if it doesn't even really work.

Works perfectly for my use case. I had to verify if my Chromecast Gen1 connected to a wired ethernet dongle actually works through the wires and it does. Using wireless connection on 2.4 Ghz I only got 20 Mbps average with stutters. Via the wired dongle I got peak 80 plus Mbps and 40 Mbps average sustained - no more Youtube stutters. Great app! Thank you.

Blank white bar. Does not work. I updated the rating to 5 stars for fixing the app. It seems to be chromecast firmware issue as chromecast with 1.56 fail to load the speed test while 1.49 does ok. So it seems its google issue. I reached out to developers with details so maybe they consider adding a version check to notify people if their chromecast might be affected before they fix the issue.

Tests on a server over 8000km away from me with no way to select a closer server. The results are an order of magnitude away from reality, given that I can successfully stream 4k video. This app fails to do the one thing it claims to be capable of.

Speedtest works well on an LG TV. On a Toshiba TV with seperate Chromecast, the test loads but there is just the white bar with no info. It used to work until yesterday. I've tried all fixes, reboots, resets, etc. But still no joy. Any ideas?

The app is very good and helpful. I suggest to show the test result not only on tv but also mobile screen because I might want to test chromecast when I am in other room.. Also a question.. Why the speed of my mobile and speed of chromecast is different since they are on the same spot?

Didn't work. It shows the app screen on TV with a white rectangle in the center, the test never starts. Tested several times in two chromecast, classic and ultra. Perhaps server isn't available in Russia.

It did cause both of my Chromecasts to 'brain freeze', but that's a small issue. It doesn't seem to function on my gen2 Chromecast very well. Reports the speed at 53kbps, yet I can play HD movies with no lag..

It works for chromecast devices. I hate the start-up ad because it's with sound (loud! It basically scared me). It doesn't work with phone - local test. (yes I tried several times)

Well it works, sorta. It will test the chromcasts speed no problem. But it ALWAYS picks a server that's 7000 Km away. Every single time. So again it works but being able to select a server would be a good fix. Uninstalled.

Great app, does exactly what it needs to do. Only complaint is it selected a server in Europe to test from, whereas I am in New Zealand 11000+km away, even anything in the US is guaranteed to be closer and a better connection than Europe. Thanks for the app though :)

I was looking for a tool like this. Works well for video but not audio chromecast. The results appear on the TV screen. But chromecast audio is sadly no longer in production.

Works well, and since you're using your own server 5 stars even thou plastered with ads edit: I installed this to test an CC Ultra's spped and anyone wondering why it seems slower wired it seems the eth adaptor is 10/100 only, while 5GhZ devices can be faster. Could've sworn the adaptor is supposed to be 10/100/1000

Used to work without fail, but now just hangs with a white bar when speedtesting Chromecast. 😭 Can now confirm the issue is fixed as per your reply. Amended my rating to reflect. Good work guys.

I just wanted the know the network speed my chromecast is getting, since i had some quality issues. The app identified the network speed as the issue. Resetting the router fixed the issue.

I had issues getting it working on one of my three chromecast. No idea why. I rebooted, router and chromecast snd TV et voila, it worked. Does everything it states.

Absolutely invaluable for diagnosing connection performance problems with Android TVs and Chromecasts. I also used it to test whether device WiFi was better or worse than using a Google WiFi AP as an Ethernet bridge.

Whatever they use to perform the speed test is junk. Ping is always awful and running a speed test with another app yields insanely better results.

When the speed test is starting on chromecast it suddenly restart. Maybe something has changed in chromecast API that is making this problem because I had tried many times and it's the same result

Seems OK to test download speed, but progress bar only reaches about 30% across the screen, no upload speed displayed (just shows 0.0) and chromecast goes back to idle/screen saver images

The app itself is good, however what you are doing is just wrong! If we want to use this app we have to agree on basically selling our data to some company or companies who bombard us with ads that we do not want. Why don't you just ask a decent price instead and we will gladly support you instead.

Useful for the quick test I need to run and evaluate Chromecast bandwidth, does what it says on the box.
