Features

Field Recorder provides easy-to-use presets for standard audio recording tasks. However, it is designed for professional use as it provides more than 85 options to customize it to the given device and situation.

⚫ Built-in and external microphones are supported and also 'class-compliant' USB soundcards with Android 5

⚫ Records and plays mono or stereo wav files

⚫ Supports file overwrite and resume recording

⚫ Convert your recordings to mp3, AAC or FLAC via free helper apps, share or send them

⚫ Up to 90 seconds pre
- and 4s post recording. You won't miss any important stuff even if you are too late at the record button

⚫ Auto start, stop, and continue, depending on loudness. The control signal can be additionally filtered to optimize it for voice recording or other sounds

⚫ When recording, automatic stop at 4GB maximum file size and even seamless restart of a new file is available (activate auto start with the minimum threshold)

⚫ High-precision stereo audio recording engine with various low-cut filters, minimum-phase shelving and parametric equalizers, and stereo balance correction e.g. to compensate for flaws of the microphones or optimize for speech. Also with recording booster, configurable limiters, soft clipping, and high-quality monitoring

⚫ Wav player with volume maximizer, silent and audible fast-forward and fast-rewind, and low-latency random access to any play position via progress bar

⚫ Recordings are stored internally or on any chosen SD card. Default is SD card. Recordings are visible to your favorite player

⚫ Almost 10.000 colors available for the metallic-brushed skin. Also, you choose round or rectangular LEDs, left-hand operation, button size, and your favorite color for the display area

First steps and testing

Use the 2 hours refund period to test how audio recording works on your phone. Touch "Factory" in the display area and you probably find a preset in the cloud perfectly adapted to your smartphone!

Or try the different input configurations from "In:MicA" to "In:MicE". If you activate "Monitor", use headphones to avoid a sound feedback loop. Check without creating audio files, just by pressing the pause button which activates the level meters. Then you see a date/time string as the potential file name. It is created only if you press the record button

Hints⚫ If you modify a preset, its name gets gray in the display area⚫ Playback can amplify quiet recordings by choosing e.g. "Play +20dB" without distortion due to a 2nd limiter. The Monitor switch affects only recording⚫ Touch the "time/position/free" label to show the remaining recording duration⚫ Touch battery symbol to toggle between battery and CPU usage⚫ Touch "CLP" to reset red LEDs⚫ The level meter shows peak amplitudes or the start/stop control signal. Touch it to open its configuration menu⚫ Active auto start overrules pressing the pause button⚫ The 1.5kHz filter optimizes the auto start/stop control signal for speech. 750Hz better suppresses disturbing sound with high frequencies, 3kHz with low frequencies⚫ Soft Clipping is active above -3dBFS⚫ Limiting and Soft Clipping work only if Boost is greater than 0dB⚫ "Boost 40dB" or more might produce hardware feedback loop if power supply is instable⚫ Overwrite and Append modify existing recordings (warning can be switched on/off)⚫ Activate flight mode to reduce noise floor

Hello. I bought a copy of Field Recorder (FR - v9.6.3) earlier this month to work directly with my preamp/mixer, a Sonosax M2D2. Although the preamp/mixer is generating a 24-bit stream per it's two channels, the resulting stereo .WAV file recorded by FR is a 16-bit .WAV., and I see "24bit A/D" under your FR info screen TmpUserSet value. I believe that 16-bit was a restriction/feature of the FR software although I was not aware of it when purchased. Are you able to release an updated version of FR specifically to record the 24-bit stream as it was generated by the external preamps? It certainly would be worth an additional fee to me to have this original 16-bit program version as well as a second updated 24-bit program. (I won't even mention the time when 32-bit becomes the norm!) Thank you. Continued success!

The recent Android 10 update has made the application redundant because of Scoped Storage. I get " Field Recorder is forbidden to write at the selected path" error message while trying to record. I'm not changing the rating for this app considering the effort that went into building this app. Kindly get this sorted sooner.

Corrupted audio files are happening since using the app this weekend. Not all, but some. What have you changed to make this occur? I have not changed any settings since at least 6 months, which have resulted in acceptable audio levels.

I like this app and would probably give it 5 stars, but it wants to open every time I plug in my usb-c headset, and there's only "always open app" and "cancel," no option to never open automatically. And unfortunately, I can't find any option in the app or my Android settings that will turn that off. I'll of course change my rating if there's a way to do it that I'm missing!

I use the talkback screen reader because I am blind. Unfortunately, this app is completely inaccessible for talkback users. Buttons& controls cannot be focused by swipe or touch and explore using talkback. This is a shame. I want to use this app, but the lack of accessibility makes that impossible.

Wow, it works! A lot of apps just promise you that it works and there is no glitches, but this one is so PRO, so many options, and that's why I said goodbye to iPhone after 10 years :) Usb-c adater to 3.5 mm stereo mic and I have great way to record any audio effect with out walking with big bulky recorder. Thanks !

Waste of money - 20 years out of date and buggy. Cant select custom save folder, cant save to cloud. Cant view list of recorded files. The list goes on. Honestly, this should be free, and even then there are much better options.

Worked great for years, then recently quit letting me record. Developer did not respond to requests for help. I paid for this app, but now cannot use it and have to look for an alternative. UPDATED 2021-01-10: The developer did eventually contact me and was very helpful in working with me to solve this problem, which appears to be an unusual app interaction on my device.

great recorder but definitely needs to have a fresher look. to much clutter. needs a UI change! I just sent you a design. But its your responsibility as a developer to hire a designer.

NEEDS an internal converter. The app is very professional but having to download an app WITH ADS! to convert its unacceptable! VERY anti professional. Other than this it's perfect.

This has got to be the best recorder I've found so far, brilliant in every way, it even records audio from my usb sound card in hq which is very useful. I haven't found one fault with this
