I'm using an android & so far for the past 4 months I haven't had much bugs, excluding the scanning being a bit buggy, bur you either gotta be patient or just type the page number it. Also, lots of great resources & content. This would make a great gift for a new believer or teen/young adult, which I am both.
From a technical perspective, the Android version is buggy. Had a few crashes, and issues with the "See" function - when viewing a map, etc. and then returning to "Study", it would jump to a completely different page. Other times, "See" would be completely empty, and only by killing and restarting the app would it populate. As for the content itself, "Study" is more targeted at academic study of the text itself, than the underlying morals / God's message / applicability to modern life.
I did like it love the reading plans but now every time I try to open the app all I get is a white screen. I really want to continue my reading plans but the last 2 days been unable to open the app. Hope it works soon
Overall an interesting use of technology with a rich set of study aids. The videos seem targeted to all age ranges just like the devotionals. It's great that all of the digital content is rapidly accessible by scanning the page icon next to each page number. It's tricky to get the phone in the correct position and move it in/out to match the size of the icon on the page. What happens when you can't be connected to the Internet? Maps need to scale bigger when there are many close points.
It's a nice app and full of useful study notes and supplemental materials. If you're wanting to look at some of the interactive maps and videos, a tablet is a better option than a phone. But this app persistently and consistently crashes on my relatively new Samsung tablet. I reached out to the Filament team via email last week and have not yet received a reply. I feel that this companion app should be rock-solid and dependable, given that it is something one pays for when purchasing the book.
This is a great concept and a helpful resource for Bible study. There are a couple of suggestions which the developers can incorporate. 1st, there is no way of increasing the font size for the text which is quite small . If the font size can be set as per readers liking, i think that will be better. 2nd, there are many cross references & in absence of them being hyperlinked with the corresponding Bible verse it is quiet inconvenient to look for them in printed Bible.
Very easy to use when you simply follow the instructions after installing. When scanning a page, don't be shy to get up close with the camara. The app picks up the page number only, so no need for anything more than that when scanning. Works great for studying texts, Bible studies and getting some deeper insight and even background of said texts. Thank you very much for this !!
I can't get through the first pg to scan page 1471. It's not scanning at all. Disappointing as I was looking forward to this. The app should not have a "learning feature " that you have to complete before accessing the content. We should be able to access the content anyway since that is why we bought the book. I think you should remove the scanner and just let people type in page numbers... much easier and might make the app less bulky. Its a huge amount of mb.
Amazing Bible study tools! For those who had issues with getting camera to work with teading the page number an easier way is to open the app. and above the name of the book, for example, Genesis 3-5, it will have above that "pg 4-6". You can touch and hold for a second and release and it brings up a key pad to put in the page number manually. Much quicker and less frustrating than trying to scan page number with phone camera. Hope this helps other.
It reads easily, but I do have one issue. I'd like to be able to order a companion book that has all the footnotes, themes, people/places, introductions in written form. Its hard to switch between them and the Bible as you're reading. I've been creating my own handwritten copy. Plus you can't copy text so that I can put it in other things.
The app itself is great, but it's missing one key feature which would be having links to itself within the app. If it's going to say "see this note" or "see this verse" or something like that, we need to have a link we can tap on that can take us directly there to see how it relates to the current verse we are trying to understand more. With a "see previous" button that allows us go right back to where we initially were for our study.
This is an amazing app that integrates so well with the physical bible and provides a lot of background information in your hand, without the bulk of a large study bible! A very well designed app. My old tablet crashes at certain places so I logged a bug and got a reply within 2 hours... "We are actively working on a bug fix for Android tablet crashes. This was a new bug that got introduced in our latest release..." UPDATE: I can confirm this bug is now fixed! Thank you.
At first, after I scanned my filament icon on my Bible, the app will not let me progress any further. Later, I learned you have to create an account first. Good app.
Does not work, cannot get past the tutorial. Worked perfect on iPhone but samsung galaxy s21+ it won't work. But reason I bought the bible
I can't scan page 909 and it won't let me just enter the page number manually... can't use the app at all.
I down loaded app (on Android phone) and got to the point where I scan the icon on the title page. A page opens up on app that basically says, "Welcome to Filament. You are now connected to..." etc. But it won't allow me to advance past that. Very frustrating. (12/10/20)
I have never been able to get the app to work. When I scan the correct page, it says that it looks like I scanned page 6. I'm so disappointed because I was really looking forward to using the app to have all my information in one place. Wish I could also get it on my Kindle since the screen is larger
Great application. Nice to have all the benefits and more of a study bible without having the bulk of a study bible. The additional media option is great. What would put this over the top for me and the Bible I would recommend to everyone is if you could add your own notes in the app and be able to export those notes.
Such an innovative concept. The developers are attentive to feedback and are making constant improvements on an already great tool for immersive Bible study. The app is great but what really makes this product amazing is the combination of physical and digital media for making a deep dive into Scripture not only possible but absolutely enjoyable.
Meditating on His Word has been more fulfilling.i love how this app breaks down each scripture of the Bible and provides video for more understand. This app has me more engaged in reading the Bible every morning and spending time with the Lord. There are two features I wish this app did have, a bookmark option too save the place where you were reading and audible so I can listen to the sections of the app while walking.
Amazing idea, poor execution. No matter how many times I try, the camera almost never picks up the correct page number. Also, some of the resources don't work. I bought the bible to try this out for my Bible study groups (even though I usually prefer ESV) and I don't think I'll be recommending it until they work out those issues.
Fantastic concept but the font within the App is difficult to read because of its grey colour. It would be good to be able to change and increase the font size. My eyesight is 20:20 with glasses so it must be difficult for a lot of people.
Ok, so previously, I mentioned it was disappointing cuz I cudnt get thru to get filament to work. Now, w/ my friend's help. Helped me figure out how to go to setting on ur fone to "download apps file" and click filament and turn permission to use camera to on. Why the filament ppl didn't explain clearly is beyond me. But I hope this help others to their filament issues.
It's an amazing app and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a study bible they can have in their pocket. It's amazing to have a lightweight bible and be able to study or watch a video about the portion of scripture I'm reading on my phone! It's well done and I commend the creator of this! I only wish it had a Greek and Hebrew dictionary in the app. Maybe something y'all could add.
Rating with 4 for now, because I haven't actually tested the app yet. After hours and hours of consideration, I ended up ordering a Filament Enhanced NLT Bible, and I'm super excited for it to arrive, and to get started with my low-key, super portable study Bible! I think the concept behind this app + enhanced book combo is SO SMART! I hope it is able to run offline. I owe you guys a proper review, and I will hit you up with suggestions if I think a feature could be nice.
The app is a let down and needs to be calibrated. 10 out of 10, it does not scan the pages correctly. I hope the developer will be able to resolve this soon. I was excited to use it but instead of giving me a meaningful time of study it made me so frustrated and angry.😞😡
I just got my Bible its nice. But the app sucks. I get to try it out buy a Bible listen to a video about the study all on first page it says sign in to your account but no place to make an account to set up account. Very unhappy with this. I was very excited to get my new Bible and this app sounded so great but it don't do what it says it will do. Not good for new customers. 😕
I was so excited about this app now just feeling disappointed. I didn't need another Bible but bought it simply for the app companion. I have downloaded it to both my tablet and phone (Android) and it just won't work past the title page. I have emailed them so now we will see. Will update my review if issues are fixed.
What is happening with this app? In the instructions it lets you scan the front page of The Bible and then another page pops up welcoming you And that you are connected. It does not prompt you to the next page so that you can scan your Bible page and study it as the video shows you. Very poor function of this app! So there is no way to get into the actual app! I would advise Tyndale House Publishers to fix this very bad problem ASAP!! Eaiting for answer! We cannot use your app!!!🤬🤬😡😡
It seems everytime I try, I have to connect again. Then I have to try the scan, but the scanner is totally unable to read the correct page. 873 shows clearly, but it keeps telling me I seem to have scan pages with digits not even in the number. At least once, I got to 71. Sorry guys, I have tried many times, I can not allow my reading time to be so frustrating!
