File Beam (Touch to Send)

Ever wanted to send someone a document, a song, a video, or just about any type of file*?
With File Beam, you can!

You only need Android 4.1 installed on both devices (Jelly Bean), and that both devices have NFC.File Beam uses Android's built in Android Beam™, so the receiver doesn't need to have any app installed, it should even work with other phones running other OSs (works with some Nokia phones with NFC hardware).

(Please note, files are sent over Bluetooth, NFC is just used to do the initial pairing)

This application has no icon! Use it by tapping the share button in any of your favourite apps (OI File Manager https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.openintents.filemanager recommended for sending arbitrary files)

Tested on:
- Samsung Galaxy S4 (GT-I9500)
- Samsung Galaxy Note II (GT-N7100)
- Samsung Galaxy SIII (GT-i9300)
- Nexus 7 (grouper)
- Nokia N9 (RM-696) (Only as a receiver)

Permissions:
- Internet: ads, they can be disabled in settings.
- Read contacts: sending contacts using the app causes a crash without this, rest assured, the app doesn't read contacts unless you share a contact using the app.

Old changelog:[1.1]
* Support sending multiple files at once, receiver will put all files in one folder.
* Due to the above, support sending Titanium Backup files (only easy import for now!)
* UI can be set to dialog mode in settings, this means the app you shared from will stay visible.
* Ads can be disabled for free in settings.
* Bug fixes.

[1.0]
* Initial release

* Android seems to be refusing to send some file types (such as .tar.gz archives), looking into this.

I have a Sony XPERIA M2 Dual and there is no default option to share files with Android beam. But this app does the job with ease. No matter which app you are using just hit share and choose Beam file and it's done. There are many developers who actually understand android problems and very few who try to solve them.... Definitely this guy's one of them... 👍

The app is very simple, straight-forward and if it could use Wifi-Direct it would really be fast! For some reason it doesn't work with all file managers but it does great with IO File Manager. EDIT: Wifi-Direct is something completely different. 5 stars!

I liked how simple and easy it is. Only problem is it uses bluetooth, WiFi Direct is so much faster and better in every way.

After following instructions and making sure device NFC settings are on, neither device sees the other. In the time I spent rechecking all the settings.

Had this app a long time now and it has always worked well for me. It's also nice that it is pretty minimalist so you don't have to worry about the app itself, it just works when you need it

Very similar to the Android L implementation. Just what I needed to beam files to others. Works great with the CM File Manager app.

Perfect app for beaming files, because it doesn't need to be installed on both devices and delivers all files unlike some other ones.

Using nexus 7 2013 and HTC m7, nfc enabled on both devices, both rebooted after install, nothing happens.

Between galaxy s3 and note 3, just heard the beeps, but would only send me to this app page.

This app breaks Android Beam (NFC between two devices) out of its shell! Before, Android Beam was unnecessarily restricted to pics and the like 💩. Now you can transfer just about any file you like 🐙-see, even this octopus is excited! AND it is totally 🆓!

I m using Sony t2 ultra and other mobile blackberry z10, I m unable to transfer the files for both mobiles

It works as it say it does, brilliant as this one lets me use the NFC card to send

Not sure why Android doesn't support this by default. Regardless, glad to now have the ability to send ANY file type via NFC, all with a simple app install. Yet another example of Android giving me total control of MY device. No more of them overpriced iGarbages.

Unnecessary - Android phones /tablets do not need this app yo use Beam™

Abh. N. May 17, 2014

A must have for nfc equipped phones. I can see google adopting this feature into android beam in the future. Plus there is an option to switch off ads. To support the dev i have enabled ads :)

Contact beam is built into android, so this shouldn't need to be covered by the app.

Does exactly what I need it to. Just sent multiple files from a new Moto X to a Nexus 5 easily and quickly.

Exactly what I needed, Sending files flawlessly. Would be awesome if you add S beam support (which uses WiFi direct).

This little app is incredible. Now I can share whatever file I want. Thanks devs

This app is fantastic! Works flawlessly and should really be a part of Android as standard :) Thank you! Maybe if possible... You could add wi-fi direct compatibility so that larger files are not reliant on NFC pairing with bluetooth .

Quite literally allows anything to be transferred. Most useful app I have.

Tested with one plus one beaming to nexus 9. Works without issues

Now I can send mp3's to others and they don't need this app to do receive them.

Aar. H. Nov 21, 2013

I love this app as it actually uses NFC unlike "Send! (a terrible app)".

Emm. Jan 3, 2014

I've always wanted a way to share my files using NFC, because it's so much faster and easier than Bluetooth. This app

Thanks a ton, Dev. No other app matches this, and thanks for keeping it free. Much appreciated.

On Android versions before 5.0. And guess what? Now I think they integrated it in. This app was ahead of its time.

This is awesome, the way I thought NFC was when I first heard about it. This has raised my hopes :-)
