FINAL FANTASY II

The highly anticipated follow-up to the original FINAL FANTASY, released in Japan in 1988.

FINAL FANTASY II features the bitter and beautiful tale of four war-orphaned heroes who become embroiled in the conflict between the hostile Empire of Palamecia and the rebel resistance. Eschewing conventional leveling for a proficiency system that allows players to tailor their characters' growth, and incorporating a key term memory system that makes dialogue integral to gameplay, this game sparked the spirit of innovation for which the series has become known.

This edition also contains the bonus dungeons added to later editions of the game--the Soul of Rebirth and the Arcane Labyrinth. The memory minigame is not featured in this application.

Final Fantasy II is my favorite of the first 3. The story is rich with a variety of well made characters, interesting world, and political intrigue. You can build your party members into different jobs. The music is absolutely fantastic. Unfortunately this port suffers from a few problems. Screen borders can't be turned off. The text is low resolution, and pixely. Controls aren't customizable. The d-pad is too large and can't be locked in place. No way to access map. Can't play offline. Fix it.

The game play is definitely an adventure, since you have to explore the map cautiously. The character growth is so revolutionary for its time. The dungeons are challenging and expansive. You can't just spam the run command to get through tough parts. As noted by others, the controls are cumbersome especially with group magic, but the monster difficulty is very well constructed and keeps you engaged in strategy. Plus, you can save anywhere. That is a great feature for a mobile game.

Probably my favourite version of FINAL FANTASY II. It's similar in appearance to the PSP version of FINAL FANTASY II, except with mobile controls. There was one point in the game where the battle music didn't play, but the rest of the game still functioned normally. It's too bad that you can't get this version of FFII, but that's because SQUARE'S trying to push the pixel remasters. Anyways, it was an awesome port, and hopefully SQUARE will make it available for purchase again in the future.

The game itself is good. It's pretty much the PSP version, but with touchscreen functions. The problem is that Square Enix already started poorly with this port by making it mandatory to have internet connection when starting the game (while the rest of the game is 100% offline) and by having no means of save backup. And now, with the most recent update, they disabled the option to backup saves with data backup programs like Helium, making it mandatory to have root if you want to backup saves.

The game is good. Not as good as the 1st one. I did finish the 1st one and plan on finishing this one. The reason I gave a bad rating is it crashes often. I have to save my game play after every 2 or 3 battles. But I'm determin to finish it. Fix the problem and I might change my rating. Still trying to play this crapping game. Still crashes to often. I wasted my money on the crapping app. Don't waste your money on this.

DO NOT BUY THIS, SERIOUSLY. I really wanted this game to work. I was infuriated within the first 10 minutes. I was able to make it through the opening scene, explore the starting area, etc.. There is a 2 second lag time between tapping on anything and getting a response. BUT the worst part is the first battle I get into crashes the game with no trace of save data to be found. After reading all the reviews I was iffy on buying this game, and I regret it in the end. Getting a refund.

I used to love playing this on GBA back in the day. Picked it up on the play store. I was let down. The text is really bad looking. There is no controller support and controlling around towns with the virtual d-pad can be a headache at times. I'd give this a better score if the text could just be improved upon.

Final Fantasy II is my favorite game in the series, this version unfortunately is disappointing. While based on what I consider the best version of the game (the PSP release) the process of bringing it to smartphones was a let down. The beautiful sprites from that version are blurred from the method of upscaling used. The menu setup is just awful, it won't even let you reorganize your magic for example. Luckily the controls in battle work fairly well.

Text is set up so that the below bar letter such as q p y... are put mid bar so the sentences look like a kindergarten wrote them. Its not a huge problem but then you get to playing the game and your character moves like a stabbed rat. Trying to get into a door without overshooting it is a nightmare. They have a setting to slow down but it breaks once you adjust your speed so the lowest setting becomes the new fast setting. I had to stop playing because its impossible in towns to do anythin

The game is well done, there's no denying that. Never had any issues with the game and a great remake from the older nes/snes games. Just more of a FYI then a whinge, this game is very grindy and found that the random battle encounter was very frequent. The game however progressed pretty standard if you fight 80% or more of the battles and was enjoyable. A must for those completionists of of the FF series or someone looking for a great yet affordable game that offers around 30 hours of gameplay.

DO NOT PLAY THIS GAME!!! The original game was great but this one throws you out of the game at random! Someone tried to tell me it was my service and my connection to the game, but I have FULL service and I'm literally next to a tower. Was in Arcane Dungeon and couldnt save in there, naturally, and when the game decided it wanted to shut down I lost almost 3 hours of gameplay. Happened multiple times but that time was the worst. I suggest, if you have to play this game, play on the old system.

Evidently there wasn't as much care put into this port as there was for Final Fantasy I. The issues of that game pale in comparison to this one. The awful touch dpad from the first game is here too, but it's the least of this game's issues. There's such an input delay from tapping the screen to something actually happening, and everything feels so incredibly slow. It makes the game an unenjoyable mess from the very start. Also, the game crashed when I tried to save. Skip this port.

I loved this game growing up and I certainly believe that this could be a great port. However, it will not load and displays "NETWORK ERROR" on a Samsung Note 20 Ultra. Even though my data and wifi were both perfectly fine. Might have to get a refund or wait for a patch to fix this so I can change the rating

This game is a part of one of the most played and loved franchise. FF2 is, in my opinion, the worst entry in the series. It is SO BORING and the battle system alongside the leveling up system are really bad. I only enjoyed the bosses because, apparently, everything else is easy. It isn't worth buying.

Game works perfectly fine. *AS OF 3 HOURS CONTINUOUS GAMEPLAY* -No crashes -No glitches/bugs -No input delays -No problems saving and reloading -The 2nd room contains your tutorial NPCs who explain all the commands everyone seems to be confused about *OPINION OF GAME* Same exact D-pad and screen boarder as FF1. The graphics and sound quality are better than FF1. The new "leveling" system is very cool. Very happy with my purchase. Disregard all the 1* votes.

Not a good start. Quicksave doesn't work so when you get defeated, you have to reload. Cannot flee from battle and some random enemies are way too difficult (basically if you come across them, you will lose and have to reload). Save often

There was absolutely nothing wrong with this game. It's just a port of the PSP version, and it works fine. I had no crashes, no bugs, no glitches or anything. I did all the Arcane Sanctuary levels with no problems. The only complaint I have is that there isn't a way to look at the map, so you'll likely need to look it up elsewhere to figure out where you're going later in the game. I played it on a Galaxy S7 and it played perfectly, it was worth it, dont pay attention to the negative reviews.

Ric. R. Jan 28, 2020

I really wanted to like this game, but it's controls are too lose and the font is incredibly small. The directional pad that pops up when moving is ridiculously large and the game play feels disjointed. I know a psp remaster exists (similar to FFIV on Android), but this is not that version. What a shame.

Bri. J. Jan 23, 2020

Two things this NEEDS. One a d pad locked in one place option. I am an older gamer and got juked for two days with the d pad hopping place to place. Second a guide/tutorial this game needs and in-game guide and a how to on multi targeting a spell it took me several days to figure out it's a swipe and stop over a unit not tap no where was this explained in-game or even on YouTube so I used process of elimination to figure it out. A great port overall totally recommend unique lvl system I like.

Met. G. Jun 1, 2019

It is not the game itself, but now it cannot be played offline. All the other Square Enix games have a one time validation, but this (and FF1) need to every single boot up! Ironically, the old versions actually can be played offline...now they are broke and nothing has been done...

Ear. S. Apr 27, 2020

This was one of my favorite FF games. Controls are ok. Need an explanation on how to access the map and do multi-target. What is most disappointing about this game, there is no minigame in this port. iOS you can shake the device to access it. Why did the developers not include this for Android? So very disappointing. Fix this and I'd rate this game 5 stars.

Best port and remaster of FFII available. The snowcraft mini game is not available here, however, I do not care about that at all anyways. Animation, sprites graphics are all top notch! I wish Square went with this artistic direction for FFV and FFVI remasters as well.

Game crashes when you try to save your progress. Ive tried reinstalling and restarting my phone. Have also tried saving at different points in the beginning of the game. It doesn't seem to make a difference. Don't waste your money.

Jos. B. J. Apr 14, 2021

Final Fantasy 2 is just better than what I remember the GBA version was. One thing, and it won't affect my score, please let me create my own menu color. Creating my own hue was, and continues to be important to me. 5 stars either way. Thanks.
