Some upgrades to the original system beyond the graphics include: picking up some optional skills like auto-potion or bard song, being able to hold the typical #99 of consumables and not having a set item count, some bosses seem to have been overhauled to need more of the puzzle solving during combat instead of just brute force. As enjoyable as the first time around on the SNES.
I hadn't played this one before, so I decided to buy it and can say after playing it, it's pretty solid. Compared to ff3's remake, the battles are in lower fps, and some times the menus, combined with the perspective, can make it hard to use beneficial spells, but nonetheless it works well, has solid gameplay, great story, cool characters, about everything you could ask for in a final fantasy title.
Final Fantasy IV was the first RPG that I had played, way back in 1991, when it was marketed as Final Fantasy II, (but, that's another story). This is a port of the Nintendo DS remake and was the main reason that I was envious of DS owners. Fast forward to modern day and FF4 is here on Android in all it's DS remake glory. Bluetooth Controller works VERY well. However, you don't really need a controller to play a turned based RPG. My inner child is very pleased with this purchase. ❤️
As someone who's played multiple final fantasy games, including the originals of one through six, amoung others, I can say this is the point in the series where the stories really start to develop and get good. This is when it really takes hold as more of a cinematic masterpiece than just a game. It's one of the best in the series. I really enjoy the android versions and they give that feel of having "something extra and new" that sets them a part from the original versions.
Final Fantasy IV is a phenomenal game whether you play this version, the DS version, or the original and its ports. I bought this way back when I had a galaxy 2, and now with my note 10 it isn't even starting. It asks to download game data and keeps saying my connection was lost. My service is good, I'm 3 feet away from my router, and I got this phone last week. I'd really like to play through this game again since we're dealing with this whole quarantine thing, so hopefully I get some help.
An enjoyable classic Final Fantasy with some great characters. The autosave function is pretty generous and the touch control works well so there's no need to feel like you have to sit down for a long session, I usually spend 15 minutes of my lunch breaks just playing a little. Recommended for anyone who likes the classic Final Fantasy games and wants some on the go (or just close at hand at all times!)
Had the same issue as all other. Kept getting error while downloading additional data. DO NOT BUY until Square enix acknowledges and fixes this. Refunded. UPDATE: I repurchased this game after it was finally updated. I'm happy to day that the game is working great so far! I am about 30 minutes in and the game looks and runs beautifully. Great voice acting and music as well. Definitely worth a purchase if you enjoy classic JRPGs.
There are many reasons to like this game and just as many to find it frustrating and annoying. All the extra content is very fun but I needed guidance to figure it all out. Playing this game makes me want to check out the Pixel Remaster instead. The sprites don't feel sufficiently FF-esque and rather look like silly dolls. The visual style to me is very odd and off-putting. Overall, glad to have played the game.
OUTSTANDING GAME My favourite RPG of all time. Story and dialogue still hold up. Incredible music, especially the main theme. Rydia and Cecil among all-time great ff protagonists, with Kain providing the classic hubris. Golbez an underrated villain. Visuals are strong, though I prefer the original SNES graphics, and the addition of 3D cut-scenes and voices seems unnecessary, but I'm admittedly biased by my nostalgia. No major control problems, but the camera seemed slightly too zoomed in for interior areas. Drop rates are unbelievably low for rare items near the end (will those flan princesses ever give me a pink tail?), encounter rates are high, and the game should do a better job of explaining the abilities system (many abilities are only received if other abilities are distributed in a specific way, and repercussions of poor ability distribution can extend even to 2nd and 3rd playthroughs, though this is not made clear to the player), but it's all very much worth it. An undeniable classic and a worthy port.
Wants to "load data" when starting, even though there is a connection. Unplayable amd unlaunchable. Also there is no ability to simply have a "quit game" from the game title page. It is obtuse to keep swiping to find the home button to quit the game. Avoiding Square and Enix games. High prices for a non working product.
Accurate remaster based on the 3D version of the game, released on the Nintendo DS. This version is true to that branch of FF4. Basically I love this game on my Android, there is a auto save feature that let's you try hard boss fights over and over, and if you die in a dungeon you can continue before that random encounter. Added side stories, achievements, and much more makes this a no-brainer to buy for FF fans!
I can play the game fine until i click the settings button on the main menu. If i do this a popup appears prompting me to download the necessary files to play the game. Even if i have a data connection AND a wifi connection it still says error and proceeds to prevent me from playing the game. Please fix this bug as i am a new player who just dropped 15 dollars on it. Thank you.
Don't ever click the tool icon on the start screen!! It will lock the game and you will have to reinstall and will lose your game data if it's not saved to the cloud. Other than that big problem, pretty good smartphone adaptation of the DS remake. I wish I had muted the cheesy vocals before starting though, kinda ruined my childhood memories.
Edit: Bluetooth controller actually DOES work. I repurchased this to give it another shot, and I didn't have any issues. Played on S10+. Didn't have loading issue or update issue, but bought game thinking blue tooth controller (Xbox specifically - not that it should matter) would work and it was completely incompatible. It works just fine with Chrono Trigger so I don't understand why it's completely broken with this game. I stream to my TV thus why using a controller is more optimal. Refunded.
Wanted to play this game for nostalgia factors, but played it up to the point where it had to download an update. The download would not go through so I reinstalled the game the first time. Luckily the game data was sabed on my phone, so I kept playing till it prompted me with another download. This time I was much further in the game and when I had to reinstall the game during the "download" error, my game was not saved where I left off. Very unhappy with the problem.
Same issue as all of the others. Worked great til I tried to go to the options and then it tried to "download". Now will not connect . Fix your server!!! Beware, do not download until this is fixed!! Edit: after significant effort working through a ticket with square enix, I was able to get a refund for this app. I would recommend all those who cannot get this application to work to go to the square enix support webpage and log a ticket for a refund.
The controls are rediculous to use and make the game so hard for no reason. A fixed D-pad would work better. The amount of random battles every few steps really stopped me playing the most. They are far too slow and I lost interest so fast. Shame really as I used to love this game as a kid.
Fantastic game, however, I cannot get cloud saves to work anymore. They worked when I installed the game the first time. Pretty upset since I lost about 20-30 hours of gameplay. I will amend my review once there's a fix for the cloud saves issues.
The final fantasy that forced you to actually use your items for different ailments and strategically use your magic, probably the best storyline that seems to be the blueprint used for almost every final fantasy since its debut while keeping to its crystal and out world origins, beautifully remastered for the Nintendo DS and ported to Android/iOS. This port seems to be very well done for touch controls and worth the sale price for those that own other iterations of this game.
Well, the controls can be a bit wonky. But i see no reason to dock stars because of this. The game itself is qn absolute masterpiece, in my opinion. The graphics are great for the time this remake cane out. They look even better in full hd. Game- 5☆ Controls- 4☆ Graphics- 5☆
I really wish the control didn't cancel when your finger edges off the display. This game is nearly unplayable on a large screen, I played about 10 minutes and it was too much of an annoyance to continue further.
Its a five except for the battle with golbez. I dont care if thats how it was made originally, its not a well designed battle. If it wasnt such a roadblock to progress the story i could look past it but this battle made me leave the game for a long time until recently to finish it.
Welp, it asks me to do a download on the app for it to work, but even with stable wifi connection it just doesn't work. My phone is a Samsung A30, runs on Android KitKat (4.4.1...). Can the game work on my phone? Looks like other Samsung users are having a problem too... FF4 is one of my childhood games. Hope I get to play the remake version. Hope this gets resolved. For now I'll uninstall the game and get a refund.
A great port of one of my favorite and one of the best ffs. The only reason it's not 5 stars is because the horrible controls. Come on guys alot of other apps from less known dev's are coming out with WAYY better controls. Look at Doom and Destiny learn guys how to make better controls. Everuthing else is flawless. No crashes runs perfect it's an amazing game
Just...not...good. This remake is just really terrible. The battle commands are SO sluggish; for those of us accustomed to tapping out commands quickly, it is positively agonizing The enemies seem to get 1.5 or 2 actions for every one of yours, and they are surprisingly tough. This version is difficult, but not in a fun challenging way. Random encounters take entirely too long and you gotta heal everyone up after every fight It's a grind at all times, just emulate this one and save your cash.
The story to this game is great along with the characters. It has great pacing for it's time. I just wish the augment system was better explained. The augment system allows you to customize the final party to your skill set so give it a try. I recommend this to any fan of final fantasy especially final fantasy 14 shadowbringers.
Great game. True to the original, but with updated graphics and customization for battle options. The only issue I'm having is a download issue, which I have contacted customer support about.
I haven't played Final Fantasy IV for over a decade and had fond memories of it. I was afraid I'd ruin the nostalgia playing the updated version. I'm happy to say that's not the case. The updates added to the Game rather than taking away from it. It's beautiful visually. I haven't had glitches whatsoever. The fact I was able to select a higher level of difficulty is amazing. Well worth paying for. I've spent so much on P2P Games and this reminded me you can spend 1/100 and get more for it.
