The game is phenomenal and unique. Story is great. But the problem that I hate the most is that the game crashes once in a while when I try to summon an eidolon. Summoning is a great ability to use against a difficult boss, but when it crashes, you'll lose a considerable amount of progress. I hope the developer fixes this issue.

This is one of my all time favorite games. I can still remember as a kid thinking the graphics were unreal and getting absolutely lost in the world of it. This runs smooth as butter on mobile and the controls are fantastic. I really wish you did this with FF7 instead of just inputting emulator controls.

Took some googling to find the fix needed to get it to work, it's been perfect since though. A major plus this port has is they've got an option to drastically reduce the opening battle sequences when you get a random encounter, which was needed & is great. Game looks awesome graphically to. Really wish they would port FFX, FFX-2 and FFXII at this point though, they're now 20+ years old, and most if not all devices should run them without issue, I'd also be willing to pay €20+ for FFX & FFXII.

Amazing throwback to my teenage years! I love being able to replay this game. I have yet to have any crashes that others have mentioned, and I'm about 25 hours into gameplay, close to where disc three would start. So, it looks like maybe the issues have been patched? So I would highly suggest this game!

This is a fantastic example of what new technology can do for old games. The backgrounds, the cutscenes, the characters all have substantial improvements, you can actually see the details the ps1 could only hint at. Having achievements for various parts of the game is a fun touch. Be warned though, this thing is a memory hog, the expanded details cites 4+ gigs, the shiny new details and features come at a price. Over all a good game with great updates, that'll surely get your nostalgia going, and is pretty enough to attract a new audience.

I want to give this game a 5 Star review so bad. It is an amazing port. Everything works better then the original. However if you are on a Pixel 2 please be aware some users are experiencing a glitch when 2 text boxes pop up, you cant press the screen to continue. The only solution is to Bluetooth a controller to your phone, and press a button to continue. This happens SEVERAL times through out the game. Please fix!

Game runs well! But... the controls... I would really appreciate it if the d-pad/control stick could be locked into place. It's the perfect size, and doesn't take up much space when in use. Also, please make this d-pad available in FF1-2. The d-pad on the mobile version of 1, and 2 takes up too much space, and is hideous. Please add more control customization! Will change star rating based on control updates!

A lot of complaints about the first duel scene with blank. The controls pop up fine for my moto z 3. Not gotten stuck yet. It is a bit different with the controls if you're used to the ps1 controller for sure. People saying it looks amazing with new models. They seem to be the same to me but I guess they do have a little more detail that used to.

This game works fine and all between the performance, visuals, and the on-screen controls. Would love to have a support for PS4 bluetooth controller and show the game's fps on screen would be nice. There are some parts of the game that are just unplayable without the use of a bluetooth controller due to no touch-screen control like the Zidane & Blank sword fight show. Also, it seems that the devs just gave-up on this. 🤔

The most accurate remaster on mobile from Square Enix (and I have tried them all). This game costs a bit but it is really a no brainer. The controls are very nice, the menus looks like the original but slightly bigger to improve touch handling. Same goes with battles. With added achievements, auto save, and some boosts that I never tried, this version is all a FF9 fan can dream of. Played it for 100 hours now, over a period of a few months. Mostly played on subways, before going to bed, etc.

I had no issues with the app when I last played about a year ago. I wanted to play again today after a long time and my saves are gone. I even looked at the cloud saves and there was a save file from the starting areas of the game. I was very far in the story and had accomplished a lot but it's all gone for some reason. Maybe I'll try playing again one day but for now I'll just mourn my lost save files. Also the fact that the last dev update was on 2019 shows that they gave up on this game.

I, personally, have had no problems playing this. I think this is how a port should be done. HD sprites look amazing, the touchscreen controls work great and it even has cloud save functionality. It will end up taking over 3GB of space on your device but it's well worth it. I play on a Blackview A60 Pro and it works perfectly.

Lots of reviews saying this doesn't work on Google pixel phones, I was worried about this but gave it a try. At first I had an issue with the black screen that other have had but a search online revealed a remedy. Something about app permissions. Other than that, no issues. Anyway, this is a fantastic port. Definitely recommend.

The gameplay experience of this was amazing. I got very lost in the story and the touch joystick worked quite well. Only thing I couldnt master well was the jump rope and clicking on destinations on the world map. Every once in a while I wish I was playing it inn the PlayStation but the convenience of leveling up while commuting is a real plus. That is another thing, this game is the only port in the series that doesnt require a connection! No bugs for me except occasionally when I went to other apps it would restart outsold without autosaving. So I just learned to save more. Best game ever!

Game was generally fun and a good port from the Playstation. HOWEVER, on the Pixel 2 there is a bug where when more than one dialog box appears the game becomes unresponsive to touch and you are required to use an external bluetooth controller or a third party keyboard to proceed. If you are willing to play the game like that, then it is a fun game.

This is one of the best games of all time! If this game is not working on your phone go into your system settings, app permissions, find the FFIX app and turn off and on the storage settings then try the game again. I just upgraded phones where it had been working for years, I knew it wasn't the game. I got this explanation from another review I read while investigating this problem. Please don't give 1 star due to phone technical problems :(

Update: at last this works again!! The game boosters are great and help too move quickly through the game and have more of a mobile experience while you can still play the game as originally intended without boosters. Old: Does not work on newest version of android even with messing with permissions in and off it will lock up at the title screen. You can't play it so don't buy it and if they won't support it why buy any of their other apps. Now randomly and sometimes intermittently working.

This is the best FF port I've played on mobile so far. The level of care taken into it is exceptional. It runs smooth, controls are intuitive, and it's all around a fun game to play. But be warned, FF9 is ripe with content and will keep you invested. This is a dense experience and will not always be a casual experience. Edit:10-29-21 The game periodically crashes in battle which seems related to using certain summon spells. The frame rate might stutter prior to crashing as well. Using an S9

This is one of, if not my favorite, Final Fantasy game. Great game play, good graphics (for the time), good story, and just all around fun to play. Bought a while ago and redownloaded, just to find the black screen issue. A review here by Andre on 2/12/20 helped explain it's a permission issue. After downloading, go to Settings, Apps, FFIX. Make sure storage permissions are allowed. If still not working, try denying & allowing again. Took me two times but it works great again! Thanks!

the game is visually appealing and touch controls are responsive and easy to use however the game continues to have an issue with Pixel 2 phones, with Pie operating system, which does not allow the user to navigate past dual speech bubbles. as mentioned below you can get past the speech bubbles with an external controller. will update rating if problem is fixed

I was looking forward to playing this game for the first time as I am a huge fan of the Final Fantasy series, and I have heard a lot of great things about it. However, I cannot progress past the first 30 minutes. During the play, the dialog progresses without any input (like tapping the screen). However, the game stops at the duel between Zidane and Blank. I've tried tapping the screen and swiping the screen, but nothing works. VERY disappointed this doesn't work on my Pixel 2.

For my money, the greatest JRPG of all time. This is a great port of the PS Original with 100% of the content. Phenomenal characterisation, interesting narrative, expansive world, and artistic graphics which have a nostalgic feel to them. Then there's THAT soundtrack! Objectively speaking, the battle system is tired compared to modern RPGs and random encounter rate (monster battles) is too high. However, this is a must, and nearly 20 years on, it's a good as ever. Like a fine wine...

I was hesitant to buy this app at first because it's expensive for me; After searching for the reviews throughout the internet, I was able to find out that it's worth to buy and play. After buying this, I was really amazed to how the developers upgraded the graphics of the characters, the effects, the navigations and the sound system. I'm playing it now and I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THAT YOU TRY IT AND THAT OUR MONEY WON'T GO TO WASTE; Most especially, if you're a FFIX die-hard fan. 😊😍❤

playing on a galaxy s6 no problems at all, 10 hours in around gizamaluke(sic). no lagging or crashing or problems with chat bubbles. controls are amazing and menus very easy to use due to touchscreen tech. the gameplay and story are very rich and have me very hooked. this is my first time through 9 and it is not letting me down; perhaps a wee premature but it might be my favorite out of the series. totally worth the money.

Mat. S. Aug 29, 2021

FINALLY fixed! But it took too long. It's going to take a long time for the overall rating to improve. A lot of people gave up on this. Runs great now. Wish there was an option to have black bars instead of the ugly gray border, or update the game to have a 16:9 aspect.

Mic. B. Jun 4, 2019

if you own a Pixel device DO NOT BUY, there is a segment in the game near the beginning where 2 text boxes appear and the game is unable to proceed. The only solution is a Bluetooth controller, which is needed several times. This has been confirmed by multiple users, and SquareEnix have refused to comment on the matter. The game has not been updated in 2 years so do not expect a fix. I am using a Pixel 3 XL.

Awesome port. For at least the note 10+ it took a bit to get it to work. Like others said download game and get black screen when you play it. If you go into system settings -> App then find ff9, you will find permissions. The storage card access is denied. Or at least it was on mine for some reason. I allowed it and for extra deleted game cache, prolly didn't have to. But when reopen game it was all good. Installed with splash screen and extracted. Not sure why it doesn't ask for storage.
