It was fun to see where a lot of the inspiration for FF Tactics came from by playing this game and how future titles were improved after FFV. Being able to play a multitude of jobs and mix and match skills was fun too. At the same time however it makes me respect te other FF titles where jobs are fixed and every character one could play was that much more unique. Overall the story was a bit of a let down too - the villain even moreso. Definitely worth a play and works quite well on the phone.
Loved it, was one of my favorites, bought it happily, then you guys removed it, and now can't play it anymore, I reinstalled it having to Google search it, and it endlessly says I have an update, and can't connect, which isn't my issue, since I tested every other app with no problem with my internet. The fact I got screwed out of my money, no matter the original price, so you can try to get me to purchase that new pixel version, shows I don't need to support Square. Thanks for the memories tho.
Mistook this for FF IV while purchasing, but glad I did, as this is a nice sequel, and is a very good game. The cloud save included is helpful, and the touchscreen interface, and movements are smooth and perfect on the phone. Feels as good as a modern RPG. Best of all, unlike other FF games it doesn't require alot of data to download upon purchasing.
The gameplay's all here with some added revisions, for example you can sprint on the map and even make vehicles sprint. The look is terrible (and spoils Faris's earlygame plotlines even worse than the original) and the GUI could use some work, but VI makes both look like a masterpiece. I have no clue why they opted for 8-way movement as this was obviously made for 4, but you can fix this in the options.
Decent port. Interface and controls are clean and mostly responsive. It is hard to complain about being able to carry FF5 around in your pocket without a GBA and cart. The only "problem" people may have with this port is the sprites. They look a bit silly but are mostly fine. I personally prefer the chunkier 16-bit sprites, but I learned to deal with these. They don't clash with the backgrounds like they do in FF6. This is a great game with awesome mechanics and a fun, if shallow, story.
This game is one of the best JRPGs you'll find, and one of the top Final Fantasy games. This app does not work for me though. It forces me to connect to play when it starts, but always fails to find a connection whether I'm on wifi or not. Shame you can't play a classic SNES game anymore without being online for Square to collect your data, or whatever.
Fix your apps Square. Game is fine. App, like most SE apps is a mess. Don't try to download data via the wrench icon. it causes my game to get stuck in a loop on a black screen trying to dl the data. restarting the phone or force stopping the app doesn't work, nor does clearing the cache. only fix is uninstalling the app. game is 5 stars, app is minus 3 stars.
All the problems mentioned are true. Shameful to even sell this. 6 years ago I had this on a kindle fire and didn't need an internet connection to play. Same graphics, same gameplay, no demands for access to my information, no surprise loss of data or bugs that require a reinstall to fix.
Between the controls for mobile and the art style change I would pass on this. I freequently find myself spending over a minute trying to get into a door or lining up with stairs. And the choice to not include an option to toggle to the original sprites makes no sense.
I played FFI through IV already and I must say FFV is the best yet (I still have to play all the others except X which I already finished). The gameplay is one of the best in the series with outstanding replayability (with the job system). The story is however REALLY BLAND but compensated VERY WELL with a comical almost pathetic main villain. I recommend playing the advance version on emulator with the sound patch though, it's free and the music and art-style is more faithful.
NON-FUNCTIONING PRODUCT - DO NOT BUY - SCAM Unfortunately I bought the game without reading the comments below - I already own it on console and it's one of my favorites so I didn't see the need to look at reviews. Sadly the game simply doesn't work, like many other comments below mention - and this seems to be a problem going on for ages so they clearly have no intention of fixing it. The game stays stuck on Connection Lost, even through phone reboots. The only thing that TEMPORARILY fixes it is reinstalling the game. Their workaround at the top of this page does not work. When you get the problem again, it will be again permanent. It is essentially impossible to progress. Avoid this app, and shame on Square Enix's betrayal for letting this issue persist. Refunded and will not be buying any more SE games on mobile.
I love FFV but honestly this app is awful and it's really negatively affecting my game experience.. this is the second time I've had an issue with uploading my save data to the cloud. currently, my game is stuck on trying to upload my save data/download something, don't know what. and it can't connect for some reason even though I've tried both WiFi and 4G. This is the SECOND time it's happening and last time i lost my save halfway into the game... i just wouldn't recommend this to anyone at all
I love the game so much. but sadly I had to factory reset my phone and backed up my game to the cloud save beforehand. when I reinstalled I'm unable to get my save back and also unable to fix my files with the wrench icon on the left. it effectively locks you out of the game unless you delete and reinstall the game. I hope this gets fixed as I would love to pick back up where I left off.
Cloud save doesn't work which really is the main reason I am writing this review. The wait and active options don't work and are always set to active. The battle speed and battle messages also seem not respond to any change in the options.
The gameplay is nice with a controller, but the on-screen directionals are wonky to use at best. Otherwise it's the same FFV but with a smoother upfilter. Voted low due to cannot access cloud saves from Chromecast with Google TV.
It's a great example of a company doing things right. Square has really stepped it up with this game, and love their support of Android. This works perfectly with a controller. I use this both with my Google Stadia controller as well as Xbox One controller and they both work great :-)
Overall just extremely disappointed.... Things were fine UNTIL about a week ago it crashed and I thought huh... And when started again it wanted me in install the data, okay so I tried and no matter what I do with it's "guides on how to bypass" the bug/fail I still can't. This is utterly disappointing and to all looking to buy this I say don't until this is fixed...
Same as others described the game becomes stuck in a loop where you cannot download or install the game fully for some reason. You cannot play and are advised to refund the product. A shame as it is one of the few final fantasies I have not played
Couldn't make it past the opening cutscenes without getting so annoyed with the character sprites looking absolutely nothing like their portraits. The steam version allows modding so that may be better but whoever did this port doesn't seem to understand pink=\=blonde Refunded immediately. For people who can get past this I hope the gameplay is good for you
Needs an internet connection to play. Useless if you want to play on flights which is what i usually do. Really annoying to pay for a game and you are limited when can use it. Just get emulators and a rom.
Being that FF 5 was my very first Final Fantasy Game I ever played, this port is spot on. I originally played FFV GBA and got to world 2 as a kid but could never beat exdeath, until years later when i replayed it when i was older. Its great essentially having the FF 5 GBA version ported to the mobile devices, so i can easily play on the go. Even with the simplified sprites and artstyle, i really dolove the character portraits a lot more then the GBA version.
I can't even play the game everytime I press on settings it says it has to download game data and the it just loops through saying no connection try again and you cant escape without uninstalling the app. A shame since this is my favourite final fantasy
Reinstall in my new mobile phone but it can't access the game. It keeps saying to download something but it can't finish the data download. Edit#1: i found a solution for this buy copied the old data from my old phone and pasted it to my new phone. It's work.
By far the beat Final Fantasy Mobile port. Controls adapt well and the graphics are great aside from the character portraits not matching the sprites. Hope we get more FF ports like this.
I have played the advanced version and this one. What I love was the bonus poat game dungeons. But if how the pixel remastered for 4 was and how it lacked a post game content then I rather stick with this
I honestly find this version of FFV much better than the SNES's since the visuals are much more polished although it's not as great as FFVI (SNES version) it's still a decent but flat out fun game in the series.❤️👍
The gameplay is good. The story is intertaining, but the new art really ruins the experience. If your replaying for nostalgia reasons just ignore the art. If it's your first time you'd be better off using a SNES emulator. C-
One of the best FF games out there. you can easily pump 20 plus hours in. extremely replayable. ridiculously fun. worth every penny. if you are looking for a "first FF game" then I would reccomend starting with FFVI
I love this. This might be my "desert island" Final Fantasy. It never feels too easy or overwhelming and with the job system, it plays a little different ever time. The updated sprites actually work for this release, too since the overall feel of the game is more lighthearted. When I played through this version, I noticed a few spots where the audio would cut out but it was a minor inconvenience. I think those bugs have been ironed out now.
