Find X

Find X is an algebraic puzzle game where you solve algebraic equations with limited operations, and hopefully in the process learn, or brush up on your, algebra skills.
The game presents a series of stages composed of several levels where you must solve for X. It sounds simple, if you know algebra. However, it becomes a more complicated puzzle because the operations you can apply are limited to a small subset for each level. The higher levels require more thought as to the correct operations and order to apply them in.

Each level has some undos available, and is scored based on whether the minimum number of moves was made and if any undos were used.

Additionally, there is the ability to create custom levels and share them with others to see if they can 'Find X'.

Inspired by thoughts on the gamification of algebra by Terence Tao (https://plus.google.com/114134834346472219368/posts), and his Algebra game in Scratch (http://scratch.mit.edu/projects/teorth/2477436).

I followed the path of this from Terry's original game, and it is really a great idea. As a math teacher, I cannot wait to tell my students about this in the fall. It challenged me in what I had to do to manipulate the equation with the given steps. The ability to undo and self-correct was great. The student can see what happens when they apply an incorrect step and how it can quickly send you down a non-productive path. Listing the minimum number of steps will challenge the more advanced students. The step limiting I think is where the learning is really taking place. The student will get much more practice at manipulating an equation with this puzzle technique then just asking for a numeric answer or multiple choice response. Great job!

Found the equations easy up until master level. Its not due to transposing the values, its the fact that u have only what is ascribed.

Fun - but not enough equations. I went through them all too quickly.

Haha so fun! But .there are options that are prolonging the solution. Which make the problem or equation harder to solve. But it was mathwizardious fun! Cool.hope for more levels!

Might be frustrating for a child just learning algebra, but this is a fun set of brainteasers if you already know the basics. Too bad there aren't a few more puzzles in the pack.

Please allow for viewing the problem once solved. Immediately after problem solved/checked. Maybe a practice or study mode? This may be too difficult/much though. Love this app, thanks!

it is a lot of fun and the music in the background is also very good too :-)

I'm good at math but its pretty confusing trying to found out exactly what they want within a question
