FindARun - Route Planner

FindARun is a route planner that helps you find and create routes anywhere in the world for a run, a bike ride or a walk. Whether you are at home, or on holiday, and want to cover a certain distance but just don't know what route to use, FindARun is here to help!

Basic features
It's very easy to create a new route. Using the route planner, you select your starting point on a map, and then extend your route by tapping on new locations in order to make the route as long as you want it to be. Once you are done you can save your route (as a simple route or as a circuit), and come back to view it later on a map. When viewing your route, you also have the option to share it with others.

Estimated statistics
To help you have a better understanding of your upcoming run/walk/bike ride, when making a run you are able to view the estimated number of calories that you will burn, as well as the estimated amount of time it will take to complete the run. You can specify the speed that you think you will run at in order to make these estimates more accurate.
The calorie burn estimate is based on data like your height, age, etc, which can be specified in the app settings.

Snap to road (also works with trails)
You can also snap your route to roads (as well as trails and paths) in order to make a much smother running route. To do this, when making a route, enable "snap to road" (click the button with a road icon) and draw your route. To continue drawing your route freely without snap to road, just click on the "snap to road" button again.

Upgraded Version
The following features are available if you upgrade

aweful. when planning my route i couldnt expand the map to make planning easier, then the next few times it started me in a sea, i know not where. you cant search easily for places either. an absolute waste of time for me!

I used to love this app but it's lost a lot of its functionality. I have the paid option but can't switch the activity from run to walk, no snap to road option and I the distance as you plan has gone. Really needs fixing.

Seems like a very functional app, exactly what I wanted, I would be willing to pay, 1. except I hate the subscription model that all apps now use, and 2. After you've saved a route, when you go back to view it, you can't view it in satellite view. How am i supposed to use the route I've made if I can't see points of reference etc with the detailed satellite view.

for a free app this is pretty fantastic. it does what I expected and allows me to plot a running route and I can see all the streets and other things I need to be able to plan my route. I'd like for the road running to automatically stay on the roads/ paths as theres no way to snap to roads and have a section off road and it wont allow the use of a one way system the "wrong way" which I think makes it slightly less accurate, otherwise it's pretty perfect.

I love the idea for this, and I can see it being useful for people planing shorter runs. But I installed it to try out and it ran out of points that you can add after around 6kms, so it won't work for me as I run further than that consistently. The snap to road feature is also an all or nothing setting for an entire route, so not that helpful if your route is part pavement, part footpath. I hope this improves in the future as at it's heart it is a good idea.

Update: Thank you for the changes! Back to being my favourite app now Old: Latest version requires you to click on a draw button before adding each new segment on your route - what a waste of time. Zooming out reduces the detail on the screen so you keep on having to zoom in and out to map your course. So disappointed used to love this app - off I go in search of a new user friendly app now.

Hi, great app to record what you've done post run, however i think this could be greatly improved if there was an added option to choose a different mode of exercise i.e. cycling. I cycle a lot so would find this very useful. In addition, including a feature which allows the user to input how long it took to complete the route and tell them their average pace and calories etc would be a very good addition which I would happily pay for in a premium version! Great app so far though :)

Great App! I haven't had many problems using this app and I think it really helps me plan my runs during this time. The only problem I ended up having was that it was hard to keep the route line on the actually route sometimes. I love the speed feature. It tells you the time it should take to run, jog, bike... And shows you the distance.

Confusing. Says it's 11 minutes to walk a half an hour walk but doesn't say what pace or speed I should be moving at to justify the calculation. It's just lacking , sorry

Update: The snap to road works as advertised now. Just what I wanted. Liked the free version well enough to upgrade to get the snap to road feature. Disappointed to find that every time I try to use snap to road I get an error message saying it can't snap to the road. Waste of money for me to upgrade.

Although I like the app, the snap to road feature isn't really working for me. I find that it still cuts corners even when there's no road there. Once it cut across a lake. Still trying to find a decent replacement for Gmap Pedometer, but this comes the closest. Fix that feature and I'll gladly give you 5 stars and donate.

Wants to charge me for basic features Right after the 10 second tutorial, like the "auto-road align" that aligns what you drew on the map with actual roads on the map. I can't even draw my lines on the map correctly cause of sausage fingers so that feature is handy dandy but you wanna charge me for it? I'm good. Deleted already.

Always loved this app but seems to not be working anymore, I can't plan my route and see distance, not select if walking or running etc.. whats changed?

Chr. C. Apr 5, 2020

Very straight forward and gets rid of many of the frustrations I've had with other tools. Has all the features you'd need without being overwhelming. It's sad to see that most negative reviews are people simply not wanting to pay for it. The free version is very good and has no ads, the premium version is worthwhile. Is it too hard to pay someone for their work? Seems like a small developer, so I thought I'd leave my review!

Hi I am not happy! I paid to have the app upgraded so that the route I planned could be exported into Google maps. All it wants to export is an image of the route not the actual route. $8.49 is a really expensive upgrade for it to not work. I would like a full refund please.

Ari. U. Apr 13, 2020

Developers, can you refund me? You can't start and stop anywhere near the same spot. Like a home to home run. You can map it, it'll say x-miles, but when you navigate it out says"you have arrived". Our of you pick a spot close to your house, navigation takes you to that spot and "you've arrived." There's no snap to street like it says it had with the paid app. Please get back to me.

The base price was already hefty, a subscription tacked on years later just to squeeze every dime out of its users is just disrespectful.

My review was deleted within seconds of raising an issue, so here goes a second one. Can't plan any routes in the free version any more, satellite view has been removed so I can't plan a route around a trail that isn't visible on other view modes. App is now completely unusable so I'm deleting it.

I paid for the premium version because I wanted elevation information. The elevation it calculated for my run was 900 feet less than what my Suunto watch said, and my watch has proven itself accurate in the past. Putting in the route is also cumbersome-- way more so than Google maps pedometer. And why can't you set it to miles instead of km?

Mar. L. Aug 18, 2020

Overall really great tool. 1.Just wish that I could edit one step back on a already saved route. It deletes all route if I press undo. Instead just last step add added. Before save. 2. Let me choose if I want to save a new route or overwrite the old one. Currently always overwriting old one.

Ing. J. Sep 23, 2020

This has great potential but started plotting my first route and as I run trails it's essential to have snap to road/path. But this is a premium function only so I got about 200mtrs!.. I'm happy to pay once I know it's worth it. Developers it would be great if you did a short trial of premium for free so we can try it.

Cle. C. L. May 25, 2020

Okay so far, although I plotted a route of 7.4 miles and my Garmin reported differently. Very easy to 'draw'. When you use the A to B option, the road names are obscured. I'm a bit old fashioned, I like to plan a route on my device then write down the directions on paper ( so I can carry minimum tech) Shame you can't browse the map area whilst drawing but the zoom in/out is a little useful
